in 2 months i'm turning 18
I'm not very happy about that, because i'm scared. I'm scared of future. How my life is gonna look like? I am scared of failure and disappointent. I'm also scared that one day I will be in a position of an adult, who doesn't understand teenage girls. That's why I feel so connected to Lisbon sisters. Each of them represnets us, teenage girls. I think all of us see our past or present selves in these girls....
Cecilia was the first to go
I think we can all relate to what she said: "Obviously Doctor, you've never been a thirteen-year-old-girl. Cecilia was an outsider. She felt diffrent and was deeply misanderstood soul. Honeslty I sometimes also feel like I don't belong here. I like living in imagination. I would also say, that all of us feel out of place in some situations...
She was the most adventorous and rebellious sister. She was brave enough to fight against her mother's rules. I see myself in her when I don't get along with my parents. Adults often don't understent us. They don't get our needs desire to feel free. The thing with Lux is also about the boys. She wanted to feel something,something bigger, something deeper, something better than her reality. She wanted to found it in Trip, but got soooo disappointed as he left her as soon as he got her body.
The age of 15 is significant for every girl. I think we try to understand who we are, who we are in this cruel wordl? Bonnie was an rule follower. She was discpilined and obedient. She did everything she was told to do. She fullfilled every order. However she didn't know what she really felt. What she wanted. What she needed. She is the represenation of girls who supress emotions to please others...
Mary was 16 (and the last to go)
16 is such a main charachter age in books or movies. But I think this is the age when we try to find our place in society and in the reality. Mary was sociable, gentle and romantic. She in fact is the most tragic sister. Her first suicide attempt wasn't successful. She tried to recover but unfortunately ended like her sisters. She is trying to find the meaning of everyday life, but fails. They are moments in life when we don't see any sense in life. The moments when everything feels stupid and without sense. We just feel lost and misanderstood....
There it is - my current age. Therese is me, I'm her. She represents everything I feel right now and what I mentioned at the beggining. Being 17 feels like being on the edge of life. You realise that as soon as your 18 birthady comes you begin new, whole diffrent chapter of your life. Therese was just one year apart from getting out of her toxic house. She lost the opportunity of the better future As the oldest sister she had to "bear the weight of the world on her shoulders". We all face that at 17...
What makes the book or the movie sadder, is the fact that we never got to see their perspective. It is the boys who tell the story of Lisbon girls. They were obssesed with sisters and romantized them a lot. They never "saw" them. For boys Cecilia,Lux,Bonnie,Mary and There were just a mysterious illusion. Men will never undersatnd what is it like to be a teenage girl...
I will always come back to these girls. I will always see myself in them. Once I will see their faces, I will remember what being a teenage girl looked like...
