Singles Magazine August 2026 Issue Interview (Myungsoo focused)

"It doesn't seem like my feelings, but why are my tears falling?" The drama <Love in Sync> has one special keypoint. It's when the other person's feelings completely transfers to you, that it's not your feelings, but it feels as if it's yours. <Love in Sync> conveys the story around the unique phenomenon called "emotional transfer," where you can hear the other person's feelings & empathize with them, bringing actors Kim Myungsoo & Kang Minah closer. By carefully observing one another to understand what each other is feeling & to what extent to express those, they draw up a love story anyone can relate to.

As you were doing the photoshoot, there was endless laughter. It's like the atmosphere of the drama <Love in Sync> is coming to life in front of me.

🐱Minah was <Love in Sync> team's moodmaker. As we were filming, there are also difficulties, and we could have been easily exhausted, but she always showed bright energy, so everyone also gained strength. I It is to the degree that it unfortunate that staff also said, "Why do [dramas with] good atmosphere onsite end so fast?" And for the entire filming, she never caught a cold. It must have been physically hard but her energy was amazing.💗Myungsoo oppa caught a cold 1~2 times during filming. As a joke, I asked him "You work out that much, so why did you catch a cold? How is it that your body is weaker than me?" The atmosphere onsite is this great that we joke around like this. And we also had a lot of things to have filmed together that we figured out which angle each other's face would look best. So for today's shoot too, it was easier as we naturally match the composition [of the pictorial]. 🐱The Singles team told us our face combination was great so I'm looking forward even more to the results.

What is the drama <Love in Sync's> charming point?

💗The first thing that came to mind when I first received the script is that "it's fun." Although the emotional transfer element in the drama where one's inner thoughts and feelings are completely passed on is just fantasy, the incidents and backstories of the lead characters are very realistic. From time to time, the source of the inner voice also shifts so interesting points arise. Since it's not simply hearing the feelings but passing on each others' emotions, we had to express the emotions of both people felt by 1 person. It required twice the energy, but it was just as much fun. I also tend to like scripts where the actor has to do lot within the story. 🐱I agree with that has been previously said! The emotional transfer element is ultimately points to the understanding of the other's emotional direction and matching that level as the most most important thing. It is also important to naturally [begin to] accept one another's emotions as we maintain the character we each envision. To add one more thing, it is my first time to work on a project where the male & female leads had this much to film together. Since the focus of the story is these two people, the scenes we appear together are where most interesting points are, so please look forward to them.

Since you have a lot of scenes together, I think you two's harmony was also important.

💗I usually familiarize myself with the script and then flesh it out during rehearsals at the filming set. For each scene, I look for the correct [manner of] acting by making small variations, but oppa is the style who is keen on planning. He kept the character I am acting out grounded on set so I won't go astray [with the character], so there were a lot scenes we were able to finish even more cleanly. 🐱 It was mindset of "I'll handle it, so just do it as you wish." Haha. 💗Since Eunhwan as a character in the drama also gives Jian stability, it was easier to immerse myself in the role. I think the character really suited me. That's why I think every scene captured the essence of Jian & Eunhwan. 🐱In conclusion, the synchronization between us and our characters is very high.

Your banter even now is good. How did you feel about the first episode that just recently aired?

🐱In the beginning, we filmed a lot of scenes by ourselves so aside from my own scenes, it was mostly my first time seeing the rest of the content. I think it's thanks to the actors who each did their best in acting for their respective roles that the story we want to show came to life vividly. It was a good start. And the music is also great! Ah, I'm not talking about the OST I participated in. (laughs). As a whole, we were able to bring to life the elements required in a romcom.

Actor Kim Myungsoo who is also active as INFINITE's L also participated in the <Love in Sync> OST.

🐱I also worried about the possibility that having the song I sang play over the emotional arc of the character I'm acting for would hinder immersion. But the director suggested that singing it myself would fit the emotional direction well. In fact, I was indeed able to immerse myself in it while recording. After all, I am the person who understands Eunhwan's feelings the most.

((Minah was asked: In the drama, Jian is an actress who was a child actess and idol. I think there are some similarities))

🐱Since I'm active as both singer and actor, there were many parts in the script that I could relate to. In specific, since Jian's profession is a celebrity, we often filmed in our actual playing fields. For the scenes where she films a drama, we filmed in an actual drama set, and we were in an actual music show waiting room for scenes we had to show music programs. I was able to immerse myself [in the drama] more easily thanks to the familiarity of the filming set where I dealt with my schedules as both singer and actor.

If you can share anything among the episodes that occurred during filming?

🐱There were especially a lot scenes where there are long dialogues with the two of us together. And since Eunhwan's profession is a psychological counselor, there were a lot of technical terms. I believe that I have a fixed amount of energy for day, but one day, I had difficult lines left and ran out of energy, so my I fumbled on my pronunciation and I had a hard time. (As he also stumbled with his pronunciation as he talked about this story) I guess my total energy for the day has been used up.

In the drama, Jian & Eunhwan understand each other's feelings without having to say anything. If this kind of ability to know another's inner thoughts, whose feelings would you want to hear?

🐱Since I'm not the type to let my imagination run, this is a difficult question. But if I have to pick one person...it's not a person but our pet [named] Bori? Since dogs can't talk, it's hard to know what they're thinking. I'm curious about their inner thoughts.

What would be the key viewing point of <Love in Sync>?

🐱There are no frustrating parts referred to as sweet potatoes**. Jian is a character who speaks honestly rather than keeping to herself, and above all, the story setting allows for the conveying of emotions. Because of this, there are no lingering thoughts like "Why did they do that?" "What do those words mean?" Even when a problem arises, they are resolved rather quickly. The greatest strength of our drama is that it is a romcom you can watch comfortably. 🐱Also, this drama is my first romantic comedy. When I received the offer, I thought, "Finally, I also will be able to do a classic romcom." Haha. I enjoyed throughout the filming as I was able to show my cool side to my heart's content. It was a role that I wanted to try at least once. 💗Myungsoo oppa was really happy whenever we filmed a scene where he shows off his cool side.

What scene was so cool?

🐱The scene at the police station the second episode. Haha. Apart from this scene, our drama is filled with scenes showing Eunhwan's coolness so please watch it until the end of the broadcast. 💗I remember that scene where they breathe together because Jian couldn't breathe due to her trauma. Also, the police station scene mentioned by Myungsoo oppa was also good. It is an important point that gives a glimpse of how the relationship of the two will unfold, and I think it was captured wonderfully.

Then, what would be the scene that left the most impression in terms of Minah's acting?

🐱In the drama, Jian sheds a lot of tears. But I felt that she cried really well when we acted together that I am speechless. (laughs). Shedding tears at such perfect timing?!

After <Love in Sync> ends, what would you like to hear most from viewers about the two?

💗After the last episode airs, I hope there would be lots of reactions saying "I want to watch more of their story." 🐱I hope a lot of people would like to see a Season 2. I think there's no bigger compliment than that from the point of view of the actors who have appeared in the drama.

The Time I Met Kim Myungsoo

Kim Myungsoo showed another transformation through <Love in Sync>. Through the various roles he has accumulated, he set out acting in a relaxed and delicate romantic comedy. Cha Eunhwan, whom we meet in <Love in Sync> is a psychological counselor who deeply understands others' feelings. Though he is a character of different nature from the rational and efficient in real life Kim Myungsoo, that gap actually showed a new side of his. Having learned understanding another person's feelingd and the warmth of words, Kim Myungsoo has perfected a relaxed & delicate expression for a romcom. The time that he has accumulated moving between the two names, INFINITE L & Kim Myungsoo. All of that has made the Kim Myungsoo of today.

It seems like you've spent this year very busy?

I'm doing my Asia Fancon tour, continuously promoting <Love in Sync>, as I'm also preparing for my next project, I'm also reading the script a lot, and there are a lot of various things I'm preparing. It's really tough on my body, but my heart is happy. Since I'm a workaholic, I like working (laughs). In a blink of an eye, I'll be in Kore and then overseas so I'm out of my mind, but I'm enjoying my time.

Just recently, you also threw the ceremonial first pitch. Since you are a Doosan Bears fan, it must have meant a lot to you personally too.

I've thrown the first pitch for Doosan Bears for 2 times now, and it's really great. Of course, it'll be so much better if they win. Haha. I watched the game till the end that day with the mindset that "it's all good as long as Doosan wins," but they unfortunately lost, so I'm looking forward to their next match.

When you first read the script for <Love in Sync>, which point did you find charming?

Cha Eunhwan is a character who is vastly different from the real me. If you compare us through MBTI, I am a T, while Eunhwan who deeply empathizes with others' situations and feelings is closer to an F. Of course, I didn't think that he had to be emotional because he is a psychological counselor. Because sometimes, you need to look at things coldly and give realistic solutions. But Eunhwan is a character who delicately accepts the emotions of others, and because he also had a backstory, he was a character that piqued my curiosity. Of course, the drama itself was good. Rather than standing out, the fantasy elements seamlessly integrated with the romantic comedy in the drama. I thought it was a project that is enjoyable to watch because it is [a set up that is] familiar yet is also add the element of emotionl transfer.

The core element of the drama is "emotional transfer," right. It's a concept that feels slightly different to empathy, is that right?

Empathy and emotional transfer are different. If empathy is understanding a certain feeling & emotion, emotional transfer is the literal passing on of emotions. It's my thoughts being heard by the other person. Because of that element, us actors were also able to learn a lot about each other as well, and it was a drama where there's no helping how our chemistry naturally became great. Since we had to act like we know what the other person is thinking, we had lots of readings. The director and actors continuously communicated and adjusted for each other. As we go to the latter part, our thought became similar without the need for explanation. Though I know that it was a fantasy [element], it was to the point that I thought "are my emotions transferring?" in reality too.

If emotional transfer could actually occur, can one fall in love?

For me, I think the process of getting to know the feelings of the other person one step at a time from having not known one another is important. If emotional transfer occurs, then that process is skipped, right. Of course, it might be easier, but I think getting to know one thing at a time like it's a stamp collecting mission is better (laughs).

There are also things you learned by acting out a character different from your own personality, right?

I'm not the type to let my imagination run wild endlessly. I'm the type to do my best for what occurs in real life, and I think efficiency is important. So it was not easy to act as Cha Eunhwan. Since he is a character that is almost the complete opposite of my own personality. Empathizing with others' feelings itself is something that is difficult for me, but I learned a lot while doing this drama.

Is it somewhat like a self-reflection?

Haha. In a way, I think that is correct. I started thinking about how others might take the words I say. I felt that what I thought may be speaking efficiently based on facts can come across as being cold to someone else. I feel like I'm learning to speak without coming across as heartless.

Besides simply matching with the script, what else did you pay attention to during the reading?

I think that the most important thing when filming a drama is reading and communication. The chemistry between actors is also important. I think that if you are awkward with your fellow actors, your acting also comes out as stiff. I think that you have to treat each other with comfort for the chemistry to naturally come out. I paid a lot of attention on my relationship with the staff and the atmosphere on set. In fact, the filming set was very harmonious. It was to the degree that the staff commented "Why do projects with such good [onsite] atmosphere always end fast?" which made me feel proud.

You've done a lot of projects in various genres, but <Love in Sync> is a project where you show emotional transfer within a romantic comedy. What kind of new side did this project bring out from actor Kim Myungsoo this time?

Previously, I did a lot of projects wherein [my] characters had distinct personalities. There were lots of characters who were professional or had strong presence. Compared to those, Cha Eunhwan is a character with whom I was able to show a more relaxed acting style. I was able to try everyday-style acting, and lines without heavy tone. This is practically my first time properly attempting a contemporary romantic comedy. For me, it is a new challenge and feels like my first step into the world of rom-coms.

What kind of character do you want Cha Eunhwan to be seen as?

I think the best way to put it would be "mature man." He is very skilled at his profession, and he is very great at social life. He possesses professionalism as a psychological counselor. This character who possesses that mature side also shows cuteness as he experiences emotional transfer with the female lead. I think he's a character who shows both that maturity and cuteness at the same time, haha. I think that for every episode, at least one cool scene with him would come out. It has familiar feels to it, but that is why there are also scenes that are more heart-fluttering.

He has the feel of a stable character. Like a man you want to marry.

That's right. Dating him would be good, but if I were a woman, I think I'd want to marry a man like Cha Eunhwan.

How do you feel now that you are simultaneously doing activities both as a singer and actor?

Doing both things still feels like a process of finding blance for me. It can be hard on the body, but in my mind, it makes me happy. I want to continue working as a singer who stands on stage, and also as an actor who works on [acting] projects. Though the time where I have to manage my physical stamina may come, I think I am still able to mange doing both for now.

If you are this busy, taking care of your physical stamina must be extremely vital.

That is why I tend to work out diligently. Though it's a very realistic conversation, your physical strength declines as you age. Since I don't only do 1 kind of work but a whole lot of it, I can't let my stamina to fall short. There's no telling when I also have to show my body within a project as well. I believe there is a difference between starting from scratch versus building it up from a state where I already have the basics. I felt precisely that back during the filming of <Secret Royal Agent>. So I try to work out consistently when possible (laughs). These days, I am very busy that being able to do so once or twice is considered a lot, but I make sure to do so when I have time.

Though I don't think you've not had a period of burnout, how do you recover when you feel exhausted?

Right. Basically, I've never really had burnout (laughs), but I do have similar moments. Before I fall deeply into it, I remind myself to "get it together" and manage to get over it. In those times, I turn off all the lights at home and play music on my bluetooth speaker. I sometimes zone out listening to jazz or new age instrumental music, or sometimes drink alone to refresh. I believe it's important to have your own way of releasing your emotions. Though there may be times when you have to quickly come back up, there are times when you just have to let yourself feel certain emotions deeply. To be able to shake off that emotion withut regret, you have to experience it fully.

What is Kim Myungsoo's greatest driving force that makes you move right now?

My biggest driving force comes along from working. If I had to search for something small, I also gain energy from doing house chores. Since I'm a person who dreams of living a minimalist life, I like organizing and cleaning. When coming from an overseas schedule, I come up with a lot of stuff, and when I organize those, some are for throwing away while others are for keeping, right. I feel healing when I organize those. I feel proud when I see my room that is well-organized. I like seeing it in a state where everything is so tidy that there is nothing for me to clean. To me, that small but certain happiness gives me strength.

What words from viewers after they watch <Love in Sync> would make you feel happiest?

If I hear "You did well on rom-com,' 'Rom-com suits you well,' or 'This relaxed acting style suits him too," I think it'll make me happy. Because those words mean I portrayed the character well and the genre fits me well. I believe that "being fit [for] is important. Though it would personally be good to hear those, overall, I just want to hear that "the drama was fun." That would be the best compliment for me.

Fans who have been with you for a long time would know both the time you have had as actor Kim Myungsoo and the time you have spent as L. Anything you might want to say to fans at this time?

I am working hard & doing my best. There are a lot of things set to come out in the future too, so I hope you will keep watching over me. I hope the photoshoot I did today would also be a good look I can offer to fans. I tried new styling and I think that is the strength of pictorials. It's because I get to wear styles that I can't usually do. I am working hard to show you different sides of myself as both a singer & actor, so I hope you can give me a lot of love.

Can you leave a greeting for viewers who will also see actor Kim Myungsoo for the first time through this drama?

I think <Love in Sync> is a drama that properly captures Kim Myungsoo's rom-com side. The character Cha Eunhwan is someone who possesses both a cute & cool side. Though it's a fantasy rom-com, I think it's a drama that viewers are familiar with and can enjoy watching, so please give it a lot of love (laughs).

Kim Myungsoo graced the cover of the August Issue of Star & Style Magazine.

At the recent cover shoot of Star & Style August Issue, Kim Myungsoo showed a softer and more refined vibe. He showcased the diverse charms he has cultivated as both singer L and actor Kim Myungsoo through the combination of natural poses and styling that is distinct from his usual look.

Kim Myungsoo also talked about his new drama "Love in Sync" in the interview that followed the pictorial. Playing the role of Psychological Counselor Cha Eunhwan, he explained that "Cha Eunhwan is a character whose personality is very different from me in real life," & added "I'm more of a T, while Eunhwan is a person who deeply empathizes with the situation & feelings of and is more of an F."

Regarding the core premise of the drama called "emotional transfer," he pointed out that "If empathy is understanding and feeling a certain emotion, emotional transfer is literally passing on that emotion [to another person]." He continued, "We did a lot of [script] readings because we had to act like we knew what the other person was thinking. I constantly communicated with the director and fellow actors and worked with them for adjustments, so by the latter half of the production, we shared the same thoughts without the need for explanation," describing their chemistry on set.

He also had realizations as he played a character that is different from his own personality. Regarding the reactions he hopes to hear after this project, he replied that he would be glad to hear that "'You did well on rom-com,' 'Rom-com suits you well,' or 'This relaxed acting style suits him too." He said, "Those words mean I portrayed the character well and the genre suits me well, so it is important to me," adding that he wants to hear "Above all, the drama was fun." "That would be the best compliment," he shared.
