TOP 10 BOOKS. THE POPPY WAR
we're not here to be sophisticated. we're here to fuck people up.
if you don't do anything else today,
Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.
have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.
and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.
black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.
if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.
This is Juneteenth.

all for the game , by nora sakavic
fight because you don’t know how to die quietly. win because you don’t know how to lose. this king’s ruled long enough—it’s time to tear his castle down.

And Robin found it incredible, how this country, whose citizens prided themselves so much on being better than the rest of the world, could not make it through an afternoon tea without borrowed goods.
At that time Aldarion first looked on Erendis with love; and he stood long in the stern looking back as the Palarran passed out to sea. It is said that he hastened his return, and was gone less time than he had designed; and coming back he brought gifts for the Queen and the ladies of her house, but the richest gift he brought for Erendis, and that was a diamond.
@storyseekers event 13: florals
if he lost the respect of these white flowers around him, he lost his status. if he was no longer roma montagov, heir of the white flowers, then he could not protect those he actually cared to keep safe. — these violent delights, by @chloegong

“He couldn't remember the first time he'd made this choice. It was hard, now, to remember what was remembering and what was actually repeating. He wasn't even certain now which he was doing.
He quietly slid from time.”

OLIVER MARKS & JAMES FARROW, If We Were Villains
Were you in love with him?’ ‘Yes,’ I say, simply. James and I put each other through the kind of reckless passions Gwendolyn once talked about, joy and anger and desire and despair. After all that, was it really so strange? I am no longer baffled or amazed or embarrassed by it. ‘Yes, I was.’ It’s not the whole truth. The whole truth is, I’m in love with him still.
I would take all of you anywhere with me.
