Way for heat to be transferred
Conduction - trasfer of kinetic energy molecules (touching in contact) with particle collisions, direct contact of molecules
Convection - heat transfer with particles not directly contacting each other, flow as a result of temperature differences
Radiation - not dependent on the presence of matter, heat can transfer through empty space
Light bulb
Today, one of my lights blew out and i needed a 50 watt light bulb. while fixing it, i wondered how much energy (how much work) would need to be done to keep the bulb lit for an hour.
With the equation of W = P x T (Work = Power x time), i calculated the result
There are 3600 seconds in an hour and with that, i plug everything in
W = 50W x 3600s
W = 180,000J
It would take 180,000J to keep the bulb lit for an hour!
This Week
The week right before midterms mayjust be one of the busiest weeks of the whole year! Anyhow, were still looking at chances for snow tuesday night and way get a wednesday off...which would be nice because its in the middle of the week....but we can't be distracted by that. anyway i reviewed the notes on edline so i am pretty familiar for the exam tomorrow....i wonder what we will be doing for the other half of the class.....anyway, get ready to work hard!!!

To boil or melt, heat must be added. To condense or freeze, heat must be removed
Heat of fusion- amount of energy needed to melt 1 kg of a solid. Heat of vaporization is the amount of energy needed to vaporize 1 kg of a liquid.
Heat of fusion is represented by Q=mHe and Heat of Vaporization is represented by Q=mHv

I found a very interesting fact about solar panels.
Unlike what most people think, the solar panels does not simply harvest energy from the sun.
Instead, it collects the heat from the sun to heat up the water and turn the turbines to produce energy.
Some stuffs which I believed was some complex and scientific stuff is turning out to be simpler than I thought!

Contact and Field Forces
Remember the differences between contact and field forces....
Contact force - directly touches an object and applies force on it (pushing or pulling it) (Examples - air resistance, thrust, tension, spring, friction)
Field force - a force applied to the object without any direct contact with the object (Examples: gravity, static, magnetism)
New Year's Time Square Ball Momentum
Find the momentum of the New Year's ball
p=mv
the mass of the new year's ball was about 550 kg
the time it takes to descend is 60 seconds and it falls from a height of 23 m
in order to find the velocity we must divide the height by the time it takes for the new year's ball to fall
v=d/t
v= 23 m/60 s
v= 0.383 m/s
to find the momentum, we multiply the mass and velocity
p=mv
p = (550 kg)(0.383 m/s)
p = 210.65 kg m/s or 210.65 N x s

clearly, the ball isn’t “dropping”
if it was dropping, it would go faster and faster towards the bottom because of the acceleration of gravity
the ball is being “lowered” at a constant speed using a complex machine, or and combination of simple machines

yeah people always call it the new year's ball drop but it isn't really dropping, and if it was, i would stay away from Time Square as i am sure many injuries would be reported...not a good idea especially since it definitely wouldn't bounce. so lowered is a better term

for the next two days, I went to…DISNEY WORLD!!!!!!!!!
It was so much bigger and better and I imagined.
It stretched without any limits and was filled with joys unimagined.
I had lots of fun for two days until I went to universal studios
I need to go! Seems like fun.
I'm jealous!!!!!!!!!!!!!
