In my PFX family headcanon too, the family structure primarily exists because of Oliver
When Oliver was first coming to exist, he had these vague memories of a life before where he had a family though he could not remember enough to know who they were nor remember their faces. But he had ideas of a family in his head. (This hc is a whole thing based on his description of being âa choir boy thrown into the digital world of Vocaloidâ and thereâs more about it haha)
So basically Ann and Al get to hear about a new voice coming to their company group and itâs Oliver! And when they first meet up, Oliverâs like âAre you my parents? :0â and Ann and Al are like âuhhâŠyeah! totally!â
So Oliver kind of just adopted them as his parents and they agreed lol.
Then Hio came along and Oliverâs reaction to Hio is basically âSo you must be my brother! :0â and Hioâs barely sentient already being adopted by this 12-year-old đ Oliverâs all like âYou are my brother, my parents are your parents.â and Hioâs just like âokâ
So Ann and Al end up with their second kid đ
By the time Ruby is there, theyâve already established a family structure so sheâs just naturally adopted in as another child
Itâs not particularly common in the personified vsynth universe I built to have such a strong familial structure but you can thank Oliver for this one đđđ
Despite my headcanon Big Al being a bit ditzy at times, when you really think about him he is actually incredibly skilled đ because like
- He has extensive knowledge on music and singing (from being a Vocaloid)
- Has a good amount of knowledge on audio hardware (not all Vocaloids in my hcs do)
- Has great repair and building skills
- Has extensive medical knowledge about his monster type
- Knows how to keep a garden alive and well
- While he doesnât do it often, he knows to sew and modify clothing
- Lastly he is smart enough to know how to teach these things effectively to other people (namely Hio)
like yeah actually that is pretty impressive Al good job (I am praising a fictional character that I wrote the settings for myself.)
I made a chart explaining the basics of my PFX family relationship headcanons but the text is very small you might have to save it and zoom in đ
Thereâs a note about Hio being considered the most difficult to raise and in truth, itâs not because he was mean or rebellious or anything. Quite the opposite, actually, he was afraid of breaking rules đ But rather it was because he was very depressed in early life and for Ann and Al, watching their child be in so much pain was also very painful. But they donât hold it against him or anything, just doing their best and wanting the best for him. Heâs their baby after all, and they love him.
Each of the kids had their own challenges that Ann and Al had to help guide them through, but indeed for Hio it was the fact that he lowkey did not want to exist in the world đ Oliver was generally unbothered aside from the fact that he was a little lonely and had a bit of trouble fitting in, and Ruby was also mostly unbothered aside from needing some help in the social regard
I don't remember if I ever said here but it's true that Fukase's voice scratches my brain the same way that Hio's does and considering how much I like YOHIOloid V3, that means a lot lol

His random choppiness in English makes it a little harder to do vowel phoneme + vowel phoneme phonetic edits
More of a personal gripe rather than an actual technical problem with Hio himself, but the fact that he was never given a power append đ Would've been very nice and fitting for his vocal type. *cries*

Has very smooth pronunciation
Really good range
Cons
Has very goofy sounding pronunciation sometimes lol
He can sound a little threatening which isn't actually horrible in all cases because sometimes it really aids the song
Fukase
Pros
Makes for a good power vocal in his Japanese Normal bank
Very versatile expression
Cons
Has some crazy ass volume differences across his voicebanks so he's kind of inconvenient to mix đ

I just wanna share this because it sounds interesting but if y'all wanna hear cursed goofy YOHIOloid growl (I'm not adding it to the final because I think it is excessive, but I suppose this functions as a "Here's a potential way Hio could sound if he could growl" lol. I don't think it sounds great but it's an interesting sound.)
If you're wondering how this was done, it was done with the voicedrive vst effect
tbh thinking about how Iâm pretty lucky that my favorite Vocaloid character typically vocally matches decently well to my favorite kinds of music because imagine being an Oliver stan but youâre hardcore into metal or something like that đđđ
I also really donât like using âVocaloidâ as an umbrella term unless itâs to describe specifically the musical subculture, because Vocaloid the program has and had a big part in shaping it.
But Vocaloid as an umbrella term for the characters and synthesis engines really bugs me because people who arenât very well-versed in vsynth tech-wise are going to be really confused when UTAU and SynthV and CeVIO voices arenât mentioned when it comes to Official Vocaloid discussions đđ Or theyâll look into buying the Vocaloid editor and be like âWhy canât I use (UTAU character) on this???â because they think UTAU = Vocaloid
Plus, vocal synthesizer/vsynth is already a great umbrella term and encompasses things from Vocaloid to UTAU to new AI synthesis voices and old formant synthesis TTS! Using âVocaloidâ as an umbrella term just really confuses people who donât know better because Vocaloid is a very specific type of vocal synthesis, a singing voice synthesis software developed by Yamaha. Itâs not a good umbrella term for characters/voices imo
As annoying and pedantic as it may be to see people go âKasane Teto isnât a Vocaloid, sheâs an UTAU/SynthVâ just know that they are inadvertently helping people find the actual SVS editor that they need to use Teto đđđđ
Not to get too much into discourse but whenever on the subject of âVocaloid canon agesâ why is everyone always wrong? đđđ Theyâre either like âThere is no Vocaloid canon, Vocaloids have no canon ages!â or âHatsune Miku is 16!!! Strictly 16, it says it in her character profile!!!!â
Like both sides are wrong Iâm sorry agdhkfjfkf
If Hatsune Miku wasnât 16 at all then she would be ageless in her character profile like the many other Vocaloids that donât have assigned ages
If Hatsune Miku was 16 at all times then she wouldnât sometimes be portrayed as an adult and Crypton wouldnât support that
Like the actual answer here is that some Vocaloids do have âcanon ages,â ages in their character profiles, but due to Vocaloid communityâs âfree-interpretation culture,â every individual artist who uses the characters is allowed to modify the characters however they want in their work, including changing their age. Itâs very simple to understand idk why people are getting it wrong by either going to one extreme or the other đđđ
Also people should stop saying âThereâs no Vocaloid canonâ because it depends on the Vocaloid characters. Some have actual canon stories but the majority of them donât have fully fleshed characters because of the precedent set by Crypton with their characters. When people say âThereâs no Vocaloid canonâ I assume they are basically only talking about Hatsune Miku and her direct friends. Vocaloids like LUMi, anon, kanon, etc. have actual lore lol.

a while ago I made them and Miriam in this AU as Sims lol. Fortunately, their Sim life is not very canon-compliant so they all get to live with each other quite happily without horrible tragedies. Yay!
Actually what is canon-compliant tho is that they still kill people đđđ thanks to Sims 4 mods đ
Also legitimately the funniest thing to me is that df Hio looks nearly exactly like how I draw him aside from the hair parting and the fact that he emotes like a Sim, itâs ridiculous đđ Tho he doesnât wear makeup in canon but I feel weird seeing my Hio sims without black eyeshadow so I kept it on sorry Hio đđđ

I am not 100% sure about the second artist but from looking up people who drew fanart of the design back in the day they seem to have gone by the usernames shot-ass and UzaLen at some point but the accounts seem to be deactivated now! Iâm not sure where the artist is now/what usernames they use now. If I learn anything more, Iâll add to this post
