This is really cute! I wanted to elaborate on the hair thing since actually I recently was breaking down Oliver and Hio’s hair styles for fun sgdjkfjflf and I had this picture anyway

This is how I draw it, the sectioning and specific hair strands here are a little different than in Sartika’s original artworks (I draw it a little simpler), but it’s built something like this with the overall hair chunks. Yellow and orange being the bangs and the red parts being side hair pieces in front of the ears. The green is just the back and it’s just overall kinda pointy and then purple corresponds to the half mullet that he only has on one side of his head 😭 The way that his hair is drawn in the main artwork is slightly different than the way his hair is drawn in Sartika’s other artworks of Hio, the way I sectioned it here is more based on the other artworks and ref sheets

And then if you ever need or want realistic references, Hio’s hairstyle is based on visual kei styles given the artist he was based off of so you can look up visual kei for more references

[cyborg-android au] This is a draft from 2024 that I’m posting now :P

Some rambling on general android society and how their social connections work…As a warning, it is a bit dark as it kind of has implications of unethical treatment of androids and near-slavery type stuff, so feel free to skip this read. (This whole AU has some pretty dark implications but I just like writing sad stuff)

Androids were essentially made out of human curiosity, to create artificial beings that mimic their creators to the best of their ability. However, humans wanted to maintain a level of control over the androids, so most androids are programmed to be pretty much always subservient to humans, and most of them are made with a specific job or purpose in mind. As a result, their servitude to humans is a major part of their society and how they think of themselves. They find themselves most useful when they’re doing their jobs well, and they do not value their own emotions because they believe themselves to not be real people, unlike the humans.

Androids do however actually feel emotions that are nearly as detailed as human emotions. They can feel pain (emotionally and physically) as well as complex emotional pain, however they are basically told to ignore their own feelings as if they do not matter. Younger androids, due to life inexperience, sometimes don’t really know the depths of their own emotions, but older androids tend to have more experience with the emotions systems and how to deal with it.

The other important thing to note about androids is that they often pick a human that they prioritize the orders of above all others, technically called the “primary director” (in android slang, they call this their “favorite human” too). Because androids are subservient to all people that they recognize as human, this was a basic safeguarding measure so that they wouldn’t just listen to any random person and then get confused or lost 😭 The choice is usually pretty shallow—it is usually just the nicest manager or the manager that they stick around the longest. For some androids, the choice may actually be very deep or meaningful, but this is pretty rare as androids and humans don’t usually have deeper relationships beyond basic working relationships.

Vocaloid androids were essentially made to be performing idols! They tend to have an emphasis on singing, acting, and performance, as well as looking pretty. There are many different types of androids in the world, but since I chose to make this AU for a random Vocaloid fic, I mostly focus on writing about the Vocaloid androids. The Vocaloid androids are basically connected by all being designed for the same “Vocaloid” program that gives them their singing synthesis, and aside from that, they are just like the other androids in the world. (Other singing synthesis engines also have their own androids but I am focusing on Vocaloid)

In this world, android technology is still developing and so androids continue to gain new physical abilities and upgrades!

Android social structures/society are a bit different than how humans function due to them simply not having all human traits. Let’s elaborate on that!

Androids are unchanging and ungrowing. Basically, they way they spawned, the way they stay forever. They are capable of learning and becoming more wise as they gain life experience, but that’s really the most that they can do when it comes to aging naturally. Physically at the level of technology they are now, they do not change on their own. They do not even heal wounds naturally—they have to attend regular maintenance to keep themselves in good health. Most androids are unbothered by this aspect of themselves—ungrowing and unchanging is just how they are! They don’t really expect themselves to change either. (Though, to reiterate, they do get wiser over time with more life experience. They can also technically change their ages through upgrades, but I haven’t really thought that much about it.) Due to their unchanging nature, they don’t really talk much about growing and changing, nor do they think much on what to do with their far future. It’s more simply a “What can I do now? How can I do my job?”

Androids are also mostly asexual. I’m not going to get too much into that because I don’t wanna get into anything NSFW, but essentially, most androids are just asexual creatures. They don’t reproduce in that manner (android reproduction is basically just, building and manufacturing 😭) and this also affects the nature of their relationships with each other!

Romantic relationships do exist between androids. Essentially, it’s just a chosen desire to be life partners 🤔 Basically “You make me really happy, let’s stay together forever!” Dating is kind of uncommon due to androids usually being assigned for jobs, so they don’t really have the freedom to date properly. 😔

Family units are either assigned by the androids’ human managers or are chosen by the androids themselves. The latter is especially prevalent with androids who have detached themselves from humans. Basically, there’s not really a deep concept of blood-relationships with androids, rather all family connections are through adoption/choice. They still see each other deeply as family though (for example, Hio and Ruby’s family was assigned to them by their managers, but they for sure see Ann, Al, Oliver and each other like their actual family.) Their family units often mimic human family structures, though without much emphasis on blood relations due to the fact that androids simply just don’t spawn like that. The closest that androids have to blood relationships is an acknowledgement of being designed or manufactured in the same place or by the same company, but this doesn’t usually deeply affect their personal relationships.

Due to their asexual nature, when it comes to gender and stuff, they really only just go off of personal gender identity and the assigned gender roles that they were given, as sex is not important and is even generally nonexistent to them. Since they were made to imitate humans, androids do have an innate sense of gender, and it is possible for their gender to end up different from the one they were originally assigned.

Androids also don’t need to talk nor give each other physical objects, because they can actually simply send each other data! They often use this to communicate things quickly or to communicate silently/non-visually, or to quickly communicate ideas (like dance steps, emotions, or images.) They do usually prefer to communicate without sending each other direct data, because that’s how humans tend to communicate, but it’s a thing that they can and often do.

That’s all I can ramble about for now! This stuff is up to change in the future though

I didn’t want them to be able to digest food but that left the question of what they did with food after they ate it 😭😭 like. do they poop or what LMAO but like what wild ass scientist is designing bootyholes for androids ok 😭😭😭😭

Anyways the answer I came up with is that newer androids or androids that got body updates have taste senses that works with a new fluid system, which is just artificial saliva of some sort (because I don’t think irl that humans can taste food with a dry mouth? so I assumed that androids needed to not have dry mouths too lol. and prior to this, they would basically only just feel the texture of food in their mouths and no taste 😭) but yeah so they just eat the food and it is stored in their stomachs and they just have to regurgitate it later in private. So eating food is kind of wasteful since it has no nutritional benefit to an android, and humans probably don’t want to eat food that an android chewed up and regurgitated, but it’s a thing they can do yeah

overall df and cyb-an are probably my most fleshed out AU’s so far but they’re still relatively unfinished but I like them a lot

And if you’re curious and not caught up on my random AU rambling, df is basically just an overly depressing AU about assassins and hitmen and Oliver and Hio have a difficult relationship that they are trying to work through.

cyb-an (just short for cyborg and android) is based on the concept of Ann, Al, and Oliver being cyborgs and Hio and Ruby being androids. They’re music performers/idols so it’s partly an idol AU but basically Oliver is very unhappy in life because he kind of wants to be normal again but can’t, so he’s constantly acting out and being troublesome. Hio is sort of Oliver’s partner-in-crime because he designated Oliver as his “primary director” (as I am calling it currently) so he kinda just does whatever Oliver asks him to do 😭😭

It’s kind of Ann, Al, and Ruby (trying to keep peace) vs Oliver and Hio (trying to create chaos) at home in the studio while they pretend to be a perfect cute monster family on stage

also the cyborg-android AU started a pretty long time ago so I have some old concept doodles related to it but I don’t know how far back it goes surely

I don’t know if I can pick up and recover them all but this was one of them from 2023 lol

I’m still working on the timeline and events for it because nothing is particularly set in stone and it’s mostly just concepts and worldbuilding

(talking about cyb-an AU) I’m ngl the way that Hio speaks sometimes makes me laugh a little because he’s really just like “Okay. (no further elaboration)”

Hio has a rather direct way of communication though and while I imagine he is able to pick up on and do more indirect communication/subtext, he doesn’t enjoy naturally talking in that manner and finds it a bit tiring actually. He just kind of likes to directly say what he needs to say

In my PFX family headcanon too, the family structure primarily exists because of Oliver

When Oliver was first coming to exist, he had these vague memories of a life before where he had a family though he could not remember enough to know who they were nor remember their faces. But he had ideas of a family in his head. (This hc is a whole thing based on his description of being “a choir boy thrown into the digital world of Vocaloid” and there’s more about it haha)

So basically Ann and Al get to hear about a new voice coming to their company group and it’s Oliver! And when they first meet up, Oliver’s like “Are you my parents? :0” and Ann and Al are like “uhh…yeah! totally!”

So Oliver kind of just adopted them as his parents and they agreed lol.

Then Hio came along and Oliver’s reaction to Hio is basically “So you must be my brother! :0” and Hio’s barely sentient already being adopted by this 12-year-old 😭 Oliver’s all like “You are my brother, my parents are your parents.” and Hio’s just like “ok”

So Ann and Al end up with their second kid 😭

By the time Ruby is there, they’ve already established a family structure so she’s just naturally adopted in as another child

It’s not particularly common in the personified vsynth universe I built to have such a strong familial structure but you can thank Oliver for this one 😭😭😭

Despite my headcanon Big Al being a bit ditzy at times, when you really think about him he is actually incredibly skilled 😭 because like

- He has extensive knowledge on music and singing (from being a Vocaloid)

- Has a good amount of knowledge on audio hardware (not all Vocaloids in my hcs do)

- Has great repair and building skills

- Has extensive medical knowledge about his monster type

- Knows how to keep a garden alive and well

- While he doesn’t do it often, he knows to sew and modify clothing

- Lastly he is smart enough to know how to teach these things effectively to other people (namely Hio)

like yeah actually that is pretty impressive Al good job (I am praising a fictional character that I wrote the settings for myself.)

There’s a note about Hio being considered the most difficult to raise and in truth, it’s not because he was mean or rebellious or anything. Quite the opposite, actually, he was afraid of breaking rules 😭 But rather it was because he was very depressed in early life and for Ann and Al, watching their child be in so much pain was also very painful. But they don’t hold it against him or anything, just doing their best and wanting the best for him. He’s their baby after all, and they love him.

Each of the kids had their own challenges that Ann and Al had to help guide them through, but indeed for Hio it was the fact that he lowkey did not want to exist in the world 😭 Oliver was generally unbothered aside from the fact that he was a little lonely and had a bit of trouble fitting in, and Ruby was also mostly unbothered aside from needing some help in the social regard

I don't remember if I ever said here but it's true that Fukase's voice scratches my brain the same way that Hio's does and considering how much I like YOHIOloid V3, that means a lot lol

I love the nature of his pronunciation

His random choppiness in English makes it a little harder to do vowel phoneme + vowel phoneme phonetic edits

More of a personal gripe rather than an actual technical problem with Hio himself, but the fact that he was never given a power append 😭 Would've been very nice and fitting for his vocal type. *cries*

Has very smooth pronunciation

Really good range

Cons

Has very goofy sounding pronunciation sometimes lol

He can sound a little threatening which isn't actually horrible in all cases because sometimes it really aids the song

Makes for a good power vocal in his Japanese Normal bank

Very versatile expression

Has some crazy ass volume differences across his voicebanks so he's kind of inconvenient to mix 😭

I just wanna share this because it sounds interesting but if y'all wanna hear cursed goofy YOHIOloid growl (I'm not adding it to the final because I think it is excessive, but I suppose this functions as a "Here's a potential way Hio could sound if he could growl" lol. I don't think it sounds great but it's an interesting sound.)
