England is a country in a permanent state of flux. It is continually changing; politically, socially, and culturally. To many people, it can feel as though this rate of change has reached a new high, particularly in the past two years. Some may argue that we, as a nation, have lost the essence of what it means to be English. This idea has led us to produce a collection of work that strives to answer the question: Is This England?
My work focuses on what I consider to be my England, and furthermore my home. The aim was to create a photo series that does not contain anyone else’s interpretation of England, and instead I chose to focus on the bed that my partner and I share. The bed is the focus of the room, therefore where a lot of our time is spent. Its purpose is continually being altered; sometimes it is used as a place to work, a place to play games, a place to chat, watch films, but mostly to sleep. These changes occur multiple times a day but often go overlooked. It is just another example of how life is passing us all by; how we are too focused on the bigger picture and fail to take a moment to pause, take a look at what we have, and to enjoy it! People, relationships, and our surroundings are constantly changing, growing and progressing, yet we forget to look and appreciate these things.
