There's a reason that, historically, nonhumans, shapeshifters, and worldwalkers stayed in the shadows, magic-workers and cunningfolk (even the grudgingly tribe-approved ones) lived on the edges of society and practiced in secret, the religious sects with deep connections to their gods were initiatory mystery traditions.
The masses don't get us and never will. It's a fool's errand to even try to get humanity to comprehend things beyond a surface level. They like to pretend they're more civilized, more open, more accepting. But they aren't, and likely never will be.
There's no point in going public. There's nothing to be gained by appearing palatable to the everyman. All that has ever happened is people get hurt, knowledge gets watered down, information gets lost, and we lose everything.
People who put things out there and associate with it openly are either pushing an agenda or unknowingly falling prey to one and furthering goals they might not agree with if they found out. But one thing's for sure: what you see will have little to no substance. Always look to see what could be gained by the person or people like them.
