Now that I’ve gotten through the initial giddiness I am processing the actual story we got for Pat and Pran in this special - and I love it. We are getting a glimpse into what their lives were actually like when they were still in school, still in love, and having to pretend to be enemies again. And even though we know that ultimately they cope with that fairly well and are still going strong after they graduate, putting on a facade and living a double life like this is not an easy thing to do and I’m glad we get to see a little bit of where it caused some conflict.

Because this is exactly the kind of thing you’d expect to happen when they are not able to openly declare their love for each other. Sometimes, in an effort to cover up the truth of their relationship, one of them is going to overcompensate and accidentally hurt the other, be it physically (Pran punching Pat’s cheek) or emotionally (Pat saying something kinda mean about Pran). Even though they know it’s not real and they know why it’s happening, it has to sting a little and they’ll inevitably get their feelings hurt sometimes and have to repair the damage.

My favorite thing about Pat and Pran, and why they are a forever obsession for me, is that we get to actually see them be together and figure out how to make their relationship work. The special is keeping a pretty light tone so I don’t expect this conflict will get too serious, but I love that it’s continuing this tradition and touching on some very real emotional dynamics to give us a sense of how Pat and Pran survived this period with their relationship not only intact, but stronger than ever.
