I look back at all of this and cringe! The personal art journey is a curious one. It’s good to do this though, honestly. If you don’t, you just assume you’ve never gotten any better, but visually, time can tell you otherwise! So, go dig up your old stuff and feel good about what you’re doing! It’s REALLY weird seeing it all together like this. So much of your life is in those illustrations, doodles, and sketches!
I thought I was super epic when I was a kid, but that’s what happens when you grow up in a hick town where you’re the only artist in your school. So I never really pushed too hard, which sucks. For drawing as much as I did, I feel like I should be A LOT farther along. Life got really weird in my later years too, and it set me back a bit. I stopped doing art for a better part of a year (which is a lot of time to lose, unfortunately) Plus, I’m a terribly stubborn person and, at times, a slow learner. SO, you add all of that up and basically I’m a bit of an ‘art turtle’. Slow and steady, yo.
What I’m trying to say is, hey, I know what it’s like to think everybody else is an Art God (I look up to MANY!), and when people say things that I find to be overly gracious for what I do- I’m always amazed/ecstatic/VERY confused. I remember how happy I was to get ONE COMMENT when I joined (DeviantArt), so seriously. Holy cow. THE FEELS.
SO LOOK AT THIS AS PROOF. Look at those stupid Space Dogs. That anime diarrhea and the bizarre anime boobs. We all start in a horrible, awful, ‘we must never talk about this again’ stage. So, embrace it. Just keep challenging yourself. There’s really no end to improving- it just goes on and on, in many different ways, styles, and ideas. So enjoy all of it! *Lord of the Rings theme*
Like I always say, every butt ugly thing you draw is one picture closer to drawing something super bad ass. So draw all the turds. Love them, keep them, look at them later and then laugh at them while you high five yourself. DO IT. BELIEVEEEEEEEEEE. DRAWWWWWWWWWW. DON’T STOPPPPPPPPP. KEEP BEING AWESOMEEEEEE.
