Joyeux anniversaire, Lock!
“Congratulations, you are 23. May your life and year be blessed.” He grinned widely at him, then produced the plain, wicker pet carrier he was holding behind his back carefully, a blanket draped on top. “I couldn’t find your dream gift on such short notice— so I thought a bit on it, thought about what might work for you, and this is what I ended up getting. I’m pretty certain you’ll love them.” He offered Lock the opportunity to pull the blanket off the carrier.
"What?" He blurted like word vomit when he suddenly heard Clopin’s voice near him. Lock had been outside working on hammering a tent down a little more, just because he was tired of not doing anything, and he honestly had not even expected Clopin to remember his birthday. He just never really celebrated it so it was a little random to him that somebody, even if it was his boyfriend, had remembered it. He straightened himself up as his boyfriend continued to speak, his eyes curiously focused on the carrier being held before him, his cursory only being responded to when Clopin Said 'them'. "You really didn't have to get me anything, babe. I kind of forgot it was even my birthday, if I'm honest." He snorted but his eyes remained on the carrier. Curses. He knew that his curiosity would overpower whatever he wanted to say to Clopin; in other words he would not be able to even politely try and reject the gift. His arm extended and his hand gently lifted up the blanket off the carrier, his head tilting so he could cheat and get a glimpse of whatever was under there before Clopin. Not that it mattered but Lock was silly. The first thing Lock was able to see were the two little white paws that seemed to be in a sitting position. He instantly flung the blanket off to reveal the cutest smallest kitten with white paws he had ever laid eyes on. “Clopin.” he softly gasped, disbelief coming over him. However just as Lock was going to say something else the little kitten yawned and a small meow came from it, causing Lock to bend down and quickly open the little door. “Oh my baby! You know who your mama is, don’t ya? That’s me. Shh, shh, shh..it’s okay.” He gently, as if he were picking up extremely fragile, picked the kitten up and brought him up to cradled him in his arms. He brought a finger that was probably as big as the little kittens paw, if not bigger, up to gently rub his tummy..only to be greeted by a cute surprise.
“My love!” He felt his heart melting. He looked up and smiled widely at Clopin. “Thank you, Clopin. I love them. I love them. Our little one is going to grow up to be a beast, and a playful one at that.” He closed the space between them and gave Clopin a sweet, soft kiss. “This is the sweetest thing anyone has ever done, sweetheart. Would you like to help me name them?
