More of a fun fact than headcanon; but I was watching Voyager and Tuvok remarked that 'Unlike in humans, the Vulcan libido increases with time.' For Spock, I think his libido actually started out at human levels. His libido of course follows the Vulcan growth rate instead of the human patterns.

I also think that Spock experiences attraction first intellectually and then physically. So if you stimulate his mind then that's what triggers his experience of attraction and then arousal at that point. Witty banter falls into these categories for Spock because it is sometimes hard to find verbal sparring partners who he feels can match him. When he does it's a special delight for him.

I'm following The Original Series' example and noting that Spock likely experiences his first Pon Farr during the five-year deep space mission aboard the USS Enterprise under Captain Kirk. Spock is secretive about it (as I believe Vulcans generally are) and his primary method to get through it is intensive meditation and seclusion.

I’ve tried searching the tags and on google for Anson Mount as Pike icons or even screencaps but am having no luck. Does anyone have any clue where I could get some resources for Pike? I may have to do without any thread graphics until a point where I can get more.

      NIGHT TERROR.    → PRINCIPALS. Leonard McCoy. Spock.    → TIMELINE. Set during the USS Enterprise's deep space mission; following the events of Star Trek Beyond.    → NARRATIVE. Not long after warping into deep space Spock finds that he has begun having nightmares. He wakes up in cold sweats, often times yelling, and sometimes having trashed his quarters. Spock goes to medical to get treatment for an injury and McCoy is on night shift. He tends to Spock's wounds and they open up to one another.    → COMPLICATIONS. McCoy has to make the decision on whether this lack of sleep might effect Spock's performance of official duties. This would mean making an official report to Kirk if he decided to try to order Spock on a few days bed rest. Spock is against this idea though he knows McCoy's authority as Chief Medical Officer could demand it.    → OPPORTUNITIES. IF we want to take it in a shippy direction, how cute would it be for McCoy to stop by Spock's quarters to check on him and they somehow end up falling asleep together in Spock's bed?

Spock used to have night terrors as a child (due to the red angel) and later due to his bullying. He tried very hard to hide it from his parents given that he did not want them to think of him as weak or undisciplined. Spock was very prone to moodiness when he was young and though he kept his emotions to himself, he expressed attitudes quite adeptly depending on these moods.

Sarek once told Spock when he was a young child that Vulcans experience emotions in some ways more deeply than humans. Because he knows that emotions run deep within Vulcans and also in humans, Spock sometimes wonders if he experiences emotions on a deeper level than either race from which he originates. He believes this would explain the tempestuous relationship he has always had wrestling with his emotions and their place in his life. It is also a motivator for his wanting to pursue the ancient ritual of Kolinahr.

The nightmares of Spock's youth returned in force after the destruction of Vulcan. Whether or not he is in a relationship Spock prefers to sleep alone during the years following that devastation. This is because Spock wakes up yelling, in cold sweats, and often times having trashed his room in his sleep. He doesn't want the chance that he could hurt anyone and he also doesn't want anyone to witness his sleep struggles. Again he doesn't want people to believe he can't adequately control himself or his emotions and he figures that enough humans and Vulcans have suffered nightmares that it isn't an unusual occurrence. Spock has yet to divulge this information to anyone on the crew, save for Dr. McCoy, whom Spock sometimes sees for minor injuries after these incidents or for sedatives to calm him after an episode.

Spock prefers herbal remedies for sleep and calm in combination with meditation. It is partly why he so greatly valued the Vulcan blends of tea he was able to get from home. He believed they had greater calming properties than plants native to other planets, including Earth.

Spock's mother Amanda used to read him and his sister Michael 'Alice in Wonderland' and Spock has an antique edition in his quarters. Alongside this classic Spock read other classics from Earth's literary tradition (something he would not have been as inspired to do if not for Amanda's influence on Spock's love of Earth stories as a young child), to include all novels and short stories about Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. He also read works by Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, and other major writers across the centuries.

Spock keeps a special Vulcan Lute he received on his birthday as a young boy and plays this to calm himself at times.

Spock grew up near some lands which cultivated and harvested particular plants whose leaves are used to make special blends of Vulcan tea. As a treat to himself Spock used to have shipments of these teas sent to his quarters at Starfleet Academy. He had a store of these blends back on Earth before Vulcan was destroyed. Spock keeps these blends in his quarters but only drinks them on very special occasions. Once New Vulcan was established he took care to see if new seeds could be synthesized using soil engineered to mimic the soil composition on Vulcan. A vanity project, to be sure, but one Spock is hopeful about.

Spock acknowledges his skill and acumen as a teacher and technician. He realizes his ability to make deductions, to look past extraneous detail for relevant information, and to organize efficiently makes him uniquely suited to service on a bridge crew. However, he believes this capability is limited to the highest rank of First Officer. In other words, Spock doesn't believe he is suited to the type of leadership necessary to command a vessel as Captain.

The core of Spock's belief that he wouldn't be suited to the rank of Captain is the dynamic style of leadership he has witnessed in his two most influential commanding officers. Spock recognizes that leading sometimes demands that protocols and policy must be set aside in order to do what is necessary to protect the crew and complete the mission. This is a quality he has seen in Captain Pike and Captain Kirk. He believes Starfleet enumerates these men among Starfleet's great leaders.

During and after the crisis on Vulcan when Nero attacked the planet it was Spock's instinct to follow protocol and return to Starfleet to regroup with the fleet and mount a defense against the next attack. Yet it was Kirk's approach to go directly after Nero, rescue Captain Pike, and take down Nero. This approach went against protocol but was still the right risk to take. Spock would not have seen it this way without Kirk's influence.

He believes the best utilization of his strengths is as part of a team who work collectively toward a common goal. This is not to say that he doesn't believe he could command or that he doesn't believe he has the capacity to lead. Rather Spock believes he is most effective in an environment where his skills supplement those of a leadership team instead.

Spock was once set to undergo the ritual of Kolinahr to purge all vestigal emotion. He had chosen to pursue and honor the Vulcan way of life and this ritual was meant to reinforce that act. He felt he would be better able to integrate into Vulcan society more fully this way. If he was honest with himself it was also a move meant to ingratiate him to the other Vulcans at the Vulcan Science Academy before his attendance; given his experience of bullying at the Vulcan Learning Center as a young child.

Truthfully Spock had put off this ritual because he had always enjoyed the pockets of emotion he was able to display at home with his mother. A part of him felt that purging emotion was almost like a rejection of the humanity imparted to him by his mother and thus a rejection of Amanda herself. Yet, his desire to live in a Vulcan manner and to avoid ostracisim (perceived or real) had led him to finally pursue this ritual.

Two other times Spock considered pursuing this course was after the loss of his planet at the hands of the war criminal known as Nero. Yet his father gave him advice which made him reconsider the brief inclination. He had to feel his anger in order to pursue justice in an unorthodox manner. The second occasion was after the death of Ambassador Spock. It was Commander Spock's thought that if he were to truly do the most good on New Vulcan he must commit himself fully to the Vulcan traditions.     It is to be noted that should Spock have undergone the ritual he would have informed Kirk, McCoy, and Uhura that he would likely never see them or any other member of the Enterprise crew again.

Spock has always felt that emotions and logic are at war within him and that emotions - while sometimes beneficial - often tear him in directions which cause him pain. He has tried to search for anchors in logic and emotion separately but as he once told his sister: "Logic has failed me. Emotion has failed me. I have nothing to build upon, but build I must." He feels his search for clarity and peace would be greatly aided by undertaking Kolinahr. He also believes that emotions are the reason he had been compromised many times during his deep space mission with the crew of the USS Enterprise serving under Captain Kirk.

As I no longer have the benefit of being in two places at once...the logical thing would be for me to carry on his work.❞ Spock had been so certain this path of logic was the one he needed to follow. He'd been prepared to say goodbye to his family. Still he remained on the Enterprise now. ❝And yet I have a duty to Starfleet. To the Enterprise...❞ His gaze flickered to the other. ❝To her crew.❞ Then, ❝My crew. My obligation in this facet extends beyond simple protocol.❞ There was an emotional bond built over time which Spock did not think the Ambassador would want Spock to spurn. ❝Logic dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. So...why is this decision not more simple?❞ Once again he was caught between logic and emotion. Spock abhorred it.

I'm just very interested in exploring post-Beyond Spock right now! He stated to Dr. McCoy that he felt a sense of obligation to his race and that's why he broke it off with Uhura. I think his finding the photo of the Enterprise crew in the final scenes of the movie was something that made him feel like Ambassador Spock was giving him permission to stay with the Enterprise but I also feel that this wouldn't be so neatly resolved. I think it was, instead, just a delay on Spock's making any firm decision. Also I had a surge of Spones feels following a rewatch of Beyond. I've always had a particular affinity for Spirk but these two!! Got so feelsy during this film. Someone want to write post-Beyond Spock with me?!

      ❝---I believe you owe me a party, Doctor.❞ Spock stood, hands clasped behind his back, a rare visit to medical. McCoy would understand Spock's meaning if he had any memory of one of their last conversations on the surface of Krall's planet. Though Spock admitted the non sequitur was quite uncharacteristic. Spock may have near perfect memory but Leonard would have no use to recall an offhanded comment he'd made after Spock mentioned his intent to leave Starfleet. He'd said Jim wouldn't like it. 'Hell, I don't know what he'd do without you. I mean, you know, me, on the other hand, I'd... I'd throw a party...'

    Spock had nearly succumbed to delirium at that point, laughing. He wasn't laughing now. In fact, he remained quite serious. ❝I have never quite understood this particular human tradition. It would seem rather...backwards...to celebrate the departure of someone valued. Nevertheless. You did say that this would be your particular course of action upon the occasion of my leaving. While I know the meaning of your words was meant to convey a different intent behind celebration, I believe you would be just the person to organize such an event.❞ There was no room for emotion in this approach. There was, perhaps, a warm hearted ribbing centered on the shared recollection of a joke. He'd always respected McCoy but had grown even more fond of him on the planet Altamid. If for no other reason than McCoy had saved his life. Regardless, it was the most honest they'd ever been with each other in such a prolonged capacity. Spock watched carefully for Leonard's reaction. What would he think?

      Spock hadn't found the right time to say this to anyone. It had seemed wrong to bring it up after the Enterprise had been destroyed. He'd been close to leaving his family behind and now that their home had been rebuilt Spock was close to having to make a choice. He looked down at a PADD containing new schematics for the vessel as they rode the turbolift. This familiarization with ship specifications and layout was customary of onboarding crew.    “I did not think that I would participate in this process,” said Spock. He didn't look up. “It was my plan at one time to depart the Enterprise. Permanently.” He didn't say that prospect might still be in the air, too.         The Commander put himself at parade rest the PADD clasped behind his back and turned to the other. “Shall we proceed to the bridge?”
