CHAPTER FIVE
âťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâťâť
The movie ended in a burst of dramatic music and a final scream before the screen faded to black. A few people groaned, and Jamie stood dramatically to announce he was ânever trusting a group vote again.â
People began to scatter â grabbing water bottles, brushing their teeth, heading to their rooms. Y/N took the moment to quietly slip away, her bare feet silent against the warm wood floors as she made her way down the hall. A moment later, Lucy followed.
Y/Nâs room was tucked into the far corner of the beach house, away from the rest, with just the faint rustle of ocean breeze drifting in through the cracked window.
Lucy let herself in and immediately flopped down on the bed with a dramatic sigh, arms sprawled across the plush duvet.
Y/N dimmed the light so it wasnât so harsh. âMake yourself at home.â
Which is ironic to say since this is her home. Itâs their vacation house theyâre parents bought when we were younger.Â
âI always do,â Lucy said, grinning. Then, more softly: âRemember when we used to come here every summer?â
Y/N smiled, flopping onto the bed beside her. âYeah. We were never allowed in this room, though.â
Lucy laughed. âRight! Remember when Lando got caught trying to sneak in?â
Y/N snorted. âYes! After we were the ones hiding in here first. And he got in trouble for it.â
They both burst into laughter, the memory so vivid they could still picture the look on Landoâs face as the two of them sprinted out past him just before his dad walked in.
âLucky you,â Lucy said, nudging Y/Nâs shoulder. âNow you get the fancy room with your own bathroom.â
âYep.â Y/N stretched, smug. âFinally claimed it.â
âgod you're annoying ,â Lucy muttered, grinning â before they both broke into another round of giggles, remembering the bet they made on the boat.
âShe is so shameless,â Lucy whispered through a laugh, and Y/N immediately pointed at her in agreement.
âI know! I thought for sure you were gonna win.â
âSame!â Lucy covered her mouth dramatically. âI didnât think it would happen that fast!â
âNeither did I,â Y/N whispered, glancing toward the hallway like someone might overhear.
Lucy tilted her head. âYou think theyâre getting back together?â
My stomach does a little flip as i recall what the two of us had been up to just hours before
Y/N shrugged, leaning back on her hands. âI mean... people probably think they already are. With how they were acting in the living room?â
âRight??â Lucy sat up straighter. âYou saw that too!â
âIâm pretty sure everyone saw it.â
Lucy shook her head. âMy brother is so confusing sometimes.â
Y/N looked away for a second, her voice quieter. âYeah... tell me about it.â
She didnât know why she said that. It just came out, and maybe it was because she had been thinking that all along.
Lando and y/n arenât in any kind of agreement to each other but oh my god can he be anymore irritating?
Lucyâs head snaps toward her, eyes narrowing playfully. âMhmm.â She folded her arms with a smirk. âWhat was that?â
Y/N glanced back at her, trying â and failing â to look normal. âWhat?â
âWhat really happened in the pantry?â Lucyâs eyebrows wiggled.
Y/N covered her face with both hands. âOh my god. Nothing.â
âSure, because heâs âlike a brotherâ to you, right?â Lucy teased, mimicking air quotes.
Y/N winced and immediately adjusted her shirt, tugging it higher over the mark.
Lucy leaned closer, eyes wide and gleaming with suspicion. âCome on. Itâs so obvious something happened in there.â
And this is where I realized
I am absolutely Fucked. Iâm sitting here with Lucy, my best friend. Whose brother â also my best friend â had his mouth on me less than two hours ago. And now sheâs sitting here asking if anything happened?
Yes, Lucy. Your brother gave me a hickey. And to make it even better? Weâve fucked years ago and no one knows but us. Howâs that for something?
But I canât tell her that. I would die of embarrassment . On the spot.
SoâŚa lie it is.
âIt was nothing,â Y/N started, trying to sound casual. âWe justââ
Knock knock.
âY/N?â Jamieâs voice called from the hallway. âIs Lucy in there with you?â
Saved. By. The. Bell. Fuck yeah!
Lucy gave her a devilish look, already standing. âYes, Jamie! Iâm coming!â she called back, then turned to Y/N with a smirk.
âYou better tell me everything tomorrow,â she whispered, blowing her a kiss as she backed out of the room.
Y/N threw a pillow at her. âHave fun!â
Lucyâs laugh echoed down the hall.
Maybe y/n shouldâve tried harder to hide what happened but she wanted someone to know, she wanted Lucy to know. And yes she knows it would be an awfully awkward conversation to have with Lucy but she wasnât close to anyone else here like she was with Lucy.
âŚâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚ
After her shower, Y/N dried off and slipped into the robe hanging on the back of the door. It was soft and plush, brushing over her damp skin, one shoulder slipping lower with every step she took. She didnât bother fixing it â the cool air felt good.
But as she opened the bathroom door and stepped back into her room, she halted.
And rolled her eyes.
Lando was sitting at the edge of her bed like heâd been there for a while. Hoodie sleeves shoved up, curls messy, legs spread like he had absolutely no plans to leave.
He looked up at the sound of the door, and his gaze flicked â once, slowly â down her body.
âWhat in absolute Godâs name are you doing here?â she said, brushing past him to drop her jewelry onto the dresser.
âI was knocking,â he said, leaning back on his arms. âYou just didnât answer.â
âBecause I was in the shower,â she said flatly, trying to sound calm.
âYeah? I can tell.â His smirk curved lazily as his eyes lingered on the exposed skin of her shoulder.
âOh my god.â She yanked the robe tighter over her chest, annoyance flaring in her voice.
âWhat?â he said, grin growing. âYou look nice.â
Y/N turned to him, arms folded over her chest. âWhat are you doing in my room?â
He flopped backward, hands tucked behind his head. âYou know, this used to be my room for, like, the past four years.â
âOh,â she said with a raised brow, âso you came to reclaim you room ?â
She moves to get something from the bed- her lip gloss, it smelled like bubble gum when she applies it to her lips.
He sat up in one fluid motion and reached out, grabbing behind her knees. She yelped slightly as he pulled her toward him, trapping her between his legs. Her hands caught his shoulders for balance, eyes narrowing.
âLandoâwhat the hellââ
âNo,â he said, voice low, eyes glinting. âMaybe I just wanted to say goodnight to my best friend.â
She laughed, looking away. âYouâre so full of shit.â
âWhat do you want, Lando?â she asked, brushing her fingers briefly through his hair â more annoyed than affectionate.
âKiss me,â he said, voice dropping to a low tease, that lazy smirk already forming.
Y/N laughed, pulling back. She walked over to the dresser, grabbing a hair tie
âSo you let Camille be all over you and then show up here asking me to kiss you?â
She turned, crossing her arms again. âAre you actually out of your mind, or just bored?â
âOof,â he said with a wince. âThere it is. That came fast. Youâve been waiting to bring her up, huh?â
âI havenât,â she shot back, rolling her eyes.
Yes actually I had been waiting to bring her up. And so what? Did he really expect me not to?
He leaned forward, elbows on his knees. âYou sure? Because you name-dropped my ex the second you got the chance. Sounds kinda possessive.â
Y/N laughed â dry, disbelieving. âWhat do you want me to say? She was all over you. Everyone saw it.â
He raised an eyebrow. âWhat?, did you want me to let you be all over me instead?â
âGod,â she scoffed and said under her breath. âAs if Iâd need your permission.â Hoping he wouldnât hear that partÂ
âI think youâve have too much to drinkâ she said louder this time folding her armsÂ
That made him laugh . He stood, walking toward her slowly. âOh Yeah?â
He must be drunk, because thereâs no way someone in their right mind would be so foolish.
I turn, facing the full length mirror. Then pull my now damp hair into a low ponytail.
I try not to look at him but I know heâs behind me
He laughs âwhat a big ego youâve thereâ he grabs me by the hips and pulls me closer to himÂ
âLando stop it-âÂ
But he doesnât. Instead he pushes her hair aside and kisses her along the sides of her neck, trailing soft kisses to her shoulders.
She reaches behind her to push him away but he catches her hands and pins them to mirror.Keeping her there.
His other hand goes to the front of her robe, loosening it even more.
He pulls the fabric making it fall off my shoulders.
I take my free hand and clutch the robe from exposing my boobs,
But he moves it away and brings both my hands behind my back
âAhâ I winch at the uncomfortable feeling of them being held there.
âShhâ he whispers, his face close to my temple. But he loosens his grip giving me the slightest amount of relief before heâs leaving kisses down to the crook of my neck all over again
He sucks the skin there -not too hard, enough to make you instantly relax into his touch
With my body relaxed into his, he has a clear view of my now exposed boobs, which he takes full advantage off because his hand is already squeezing them and pinching my nipples,
âLando PleaseâŚâ I breathed out.
My head is all over the place and I can barely think straight
âPlease what?â He asks in that silky smooth voice he uses whenever heâs teasing me
I donât know what I want, I want his hand all over me and as far away as possible at the same time.
I lift my head and get the slightest glimpse him leaving a mark where his mouth had just been
âSeriously!â I furrow my brows which make him laugh
âRelax,â he says so casually that it makes me even more annoyed
âHow can I? Youâve now left two marks on me!âI try to get out of his grasp but he pulls me down even closer to him and sucks on my boobs
I bite my lips trying to keep in any noise trying to come out
âTheyâll be gone by tomorrowâ
Is he serious right now? They will not be gone by tomorrow
I narrow my eyes up at him and he stares back at me with the most infuriating grin on his lips, And in a blink of an eye his lips are on mine
Heâs kissing me. And oh my gods, I kiss him back. Our lips move together like tug a war, both fighting to see to whoâs gonna loose. Itâs rough and fast and none of us wants to give up, but when he bites my lower lip and pushes his tongue through and I let him, i already know Iâve lost whatever it is weâre playing at tonight,
I feel his hand sliding lower and lower down my sides until heâs between my legs,
Fuck
He presses his lips harder when he feels me straining against his grip and pushes my legs open with his own
Heâs playing with the insides of my thighs and when he feels me relaxing his fingers parts my folds which makes me moan into the kiss
Oh my fucking hell! I am so fucking wet and it makes me so freaking annoyed that he can feels it too
âFuck youâre really tight,â he breathes out when he tries to push two fingers in me
He rubs some of the slick on his finger to make it easier to slide it in
I whimper at the slight pain of something being in me. It hasnât been extremely long since Iâve had sex but itâs been long enough that it hurts a little at something being in me.
I grab a fist full of his hoodie- the best I can with my hands being held, pulling him closers to me,
Finally he lets go of my hands and wraps his around my shoulders holding me against him while pumping his fingers in and out of me,
He started off slow just easing in and out of me but now heâs going faster and heâs added another finger which shoots both pleasure and pain straight through me
God it feels so good, I feel so good and I donât want this to end but I feel myself nearing the end and I canât help but clench my walls, the pleasure becoming too overwhelming
I grab onto his arm sinking my nails into his hoodie and pull on his curls with my other hand, he winches, moving his lips near my ear
âyou like that?â He whispers
I can hear the slight tease in his voice and if I wasnât about to cum, oh my god! I pull his sleeve up and dig my nails into his skin, which earns a groan from him. And oh fuck he sounds so sexy
And god he grabs me by the neck and makes me look at him. I grin at him which he doesnât find funny because heâs going in me even faster now, his thumb going in circles on my clit, and it hurt so bad but it feels even better. I clench even harder feeling myself about to explode
I pull him by the hair and kiss him, he kisses me back rougher and faster and Iâm exploding, my cum is seeping down his fingers and my leg. He pumps in and out of me a few more time and Iâm now whimpering because itâs becoming too much for me
âLandoâŚâ I whimper into his lips and I canât help but clench from overstimulation
âI know I knowâ he says pulling his fingers out very slowly
When theyâre out of me I finally take a breath feeling some relief but it's caught in my throat when i get sight of Lando putting his two fingers in his mouth and sucks my cum off them.
My eyes go wide as he stares back at me with the most wicked grin on his face
God he annoys me so much!
I close my eyes unable to look at him any longer
âI knew youâd like itâ he says, his voice laced with teasing
I pull my robe together trying to look at little decent before I kick him out for being so irritating
âDo you ever stop takingâ I say stomping to the door
âI know you like my voiceâ he says with that stupid, infuriating, sexy grin of his!
âJust leaveâ I grit out rolling my eyes
He walks up hovering over me with one hand placed on my side and says âyou looked so good with my fingers in youâ
And then he left, leaving me there in absolute shock and what just happened.

Chapter Four ~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~
The beach house sat at the edge of the coast like it had been dropped there on purpose â whitewashed walls, wide glass doors, and a wraparound deck that overlooked the sea. It was quiet except for the wind rustling through the palms and the waves lapping against the shore just beyond the pool.
Y/N and Lucy had arrived around two. The drive from the marina was short, but the change in atmosphere was instant. No yacht, no loud music, no Camille. Just space and stillness and the sound of their own thoughts again.
Now, they were stretched out beside the pool in oversized loungers, limbs draped lazily, swimsuits half-dried by the sun.
âThis,â Y/N said, head turned toward Lucy, âmight be the smartest thing weâve done all week.â
Lucy didnât move. âAgreed.â
âWhy didnât we come here sooner?â
âI Know rightt.â
Y/N smirked and sipped from the drink in her hand â something citrusy and cold theyâd made in the kitchen earlier. The pool sparkled in the late afternoon sun, and the breeze lifted the edge of her towel like even the air was relaxing.
It was the kind of quiet that made your shoulders drop without you noticing.
They stayed there for hours, dozing off and waking up only to flip over or refill their drinks. No one called, no one interrupted. The rest of the group was supposed to join them later, but for now, it was just the two of them â and that was perfect.
As the sun dipped lower and the sky turned a deeper blue, more voices started to filter through the house. Doors opened, laughter echoed from the hallway, and the quiet bubble of the afternoon finally popped.
By early evening, everyone had gathered in the living room â sandy feet, sun-kissed cheeks, drinks in hand. The windows were cracked open, letting in the ocean breeze, and someone had connected a speaker to play soft background music.
A circle started to form on the floor â cushions dragged in, chairs abandoned, an empty bottle already set in the middle like a challenge.
âOh no,â Y/N said, eyeing it. âAbsolutely not.â
âItâs happening,â Lucy replied, flopping onto the floor beside Jamie. âDonât resist it.â
âCome on,â Jamie grinned. âWhereâs your spirit of chaos?â
âI have none,â Y/N said flatly.
But it was already too late â Lucy grabbed her wrist and pulled her down into the circle.
And just like that, peace gave way to the next wave of games, smirks, and whatever came next when the bottle spun.
The bottle had already made two full rotations, and the game was in full swing. A few of the couples in the group leaned into it for the thrill, and the singles treated it like a joke â quick kisses, loud cheers, dramatic commentary.
Y/N wasnât sure how many rounds had passed. She was tucked between Lucy and Jamie, legs crossed on the rug, an empty seltzer can beside her and her heart somewhere closer to her throat than she wanted to admit.
Across the circle, Lando sat with one knee propped up, spinning the bottle with the same casual confidence he did everything else. Loose hoodie, sun still in his hair, a faint smirk on his lips every time the bottle made someone squirm.
The bottle spun again.
It landed on Lucy, who leaned over and kissed Jamie quickly â I grinned eyeing Lucy who nudged me in the shoulders, hiding a smile of her own.
âAlright, alright, whoâs next?â someone called, reaching for the bottle.
âListen up,â Jamie declared, holding up the empty bottle like it was some ancient relic. âNew rule.â
Y/N leaned back on her hands, already suspicious.
âInstead of kissing,â Jamie continued, grinning wide, âwhoever the bottle lands on â both of them â have to do a dare. Given by anyone else in the group.â
A chorus of reactions broke out â laughter, groans, nervous oh noooâs â but no one really objected.
âI donât like where this is going,â Y/N muttered under her breath.
Lucy elbowed her gently. âYou love where this is going.â
Jamie spun the bottle.
It twisted once, twice, three times before slowing, wobbling dramatically â then clicking to a stop.
Right on Lando.
Everyone made a sound. A few whistles. A sarcastic âuh-oh.â
Lando raised his brows. âCool. Letâs go.â
Jamie grinned. âWeâre just getting started.â
He spun it again.
This time, the bottle spun wide and slow, building tension like it knew something no one else did.
And then it stopped.
Y/N.
She was a bit annoyed because she knew jamie would dare them to do something stupid, Jamie had been plotting since the night on the yacht when he asked is y/n ever had a crush on lando, muttering a âweâll see about thatâ under his breath with a secret smirk when he thought no one heard him. Y/n heard him.Â
A loud âoooooooohhhâ filled the room.
Y/N stared down at the bottle like she could flip it with her mind. âThis game is rigged.â
âYouâre just mad you lost the RNG,â Lando said, his smirk already forming.
Jamie sat up straighter, rubbing his hands together dramatically. âAlright, alright. Dare time.â
Y/N narrowed her eyes. âJamie.â
She was sure he was about to reveal what he was plotting this very evening.
âDonât fight it.â jamie repliedÂ
Lando rested one arm on his raised knee, relaxed. âGet on with it then.â
Jamie looked at them, clearly trying to hold back a grin. âOkay. Since there's obviously somethings unresolved going on between youââ
âThere is no unresolved anything,â Y/N cut in.
Her eyes flicker up to Lando right when he does the same. She rolled her eyes as she stared at the grin in his face
âSure.â Jamie waved her off. âI dare you two to go into the pantry or one of the laundry roomsâwhatever has a doorâand stay in there for 10 minutes. Alone.â
âDoing what?â Lando asked, but he was already grinning.
âThatâs up to you,â Jamie replied innocently. âAll I ask is that you come out looking a little disheveled.â
Lucy nearly choked on her drink.
Y/N groaned. âAre you serious?â
âDeadly.â
âYouâre the worst.â
Being alone in a room with lando is nothing, but when the sole purpose of being in that room is because the people around us could tell there's something going on between us- which something did, then that's a whole other thingsÂ
âIâm giving the people what they want,â Jamie said with a shrug.
It happened years ago and iâve tried my best to pretend it didnât happen (yes i'm aware that is probably not the best idea) But lando has been reminding me of it every chance he getsÂ
Lando stood and offered a hand to Y/N, entirely too smug. âAfter you.â
She looked around the room. Everyone was either laughing or pretending not to be invested.
Y/N grabbed his hand.
â10 minutes,â she said over her shoulder as they walked down the hall.
âMake it 15!â Jamie shouted.
The second they were out of sight from the group, Landoâs arm looped around Y/Nâs shoulders.
âAre you excited?â he asked with a grin that stretched too wide.
âJust stop talking,â Y/N muttered, shrugging him off.
âWhat? Itâs gonna be you and me. Locked in a room. Just like old times.â
She flipped him off as they reached the end of the kitchen, and he only laughed.
They turned the corner into the butlerâs kitchen, quiet and dim compared to the lively chatter behind them. At the end was the pantry door.
Lando pulled it open, bowing slightly. âAfter you, my lady.â
Y/N ignored him, stepping inside and flipping on the light
The door clicked shut behind them.
It was narrow and dim, the soft yellow light casting a faint glow over rows of snacks and expensive wine bottles. Through the walls, the bass from the party thumped faintly â muffled and distant.
Y/N leaned back against a shelf, arms crossed. âThis is ridiculous.â
Lando propped himself against the opposite counter, just a few feet away. Close enough she could hear the shift of his hoodie when he moved.
âDonât look at me,â he said with a smirk. âBlame Jamie. I was just trying to enjoy my drink.â
She narrowed her eyes. âWell, you certainly encouraged it.â
âIâm just giving the people what they want,â he said, stretching lazily â which lifted his hoodie just enough to show the waistband of his boxers.
Y/N looked away, trying not to let her face show anything.
Okay. If she was being honest, Lando had always been attractive. But something about the past couple of years had changed him â in a way that was hard not to notice.Heâd grown into himself. Lost the boyish edges. His face had sharpened, jaw more defined, a confidence to him now that hadnât been there before. And the abs definitely didnât hurt.Sheâd caught herself looking. A few times.
Nothing she planned to admit â and certainly not to him.
But she had a feeling he knew anyway
She shivered and pulled her thin shirt tighter around her bikini top.
âWhat do you want us to do now?â she asked, dry.
He pointed at his lips. âI can think of something.â
âOf course you can.â Her tone was flat, but the corners of her mouth twitched.
Without thinking, she reached out and grabbed the drawstring of his hoodie, playing with it.
He let her.
Landoâs smirk deepened. âYou donât want to?â
He moved â hands sliding around her thighs and pulling her toward him.
âLandoââ she tried, but it came out soft. Breathless.
His hands slipped under her shirt, palms warm against her waist.
âMm?â he murmured, leaning in.
âStop it,â she whispered. âIâm your best friend.â
He laughed lowly. Not mocking â just amused.
He tugged her in closer by the waist, her hand pressing against his chest instinctively for balance. Then his lips brushed her ear as he spoke:
âThat didnât stop us last time.â
She froze.
And then he kissed just below her ear. Then her neck. And then peppered open mouth kisses up the curve of her throat, finishing at the edge of her jaw. When he got there, he sucked gently on her skin, pulling a quiet breath from her lips.
Her hands clenched the front of his hoodie.
He pulled back slightly, his gaze dropping to her face. She was frowning â or trying to. It looked more like a pout.
âThatâs not fair,â she breathed, trying to sound mad.
âWhatâs not?â he asked, a smirk tugging at his mouth as he backed her into the shelves behind her.
âYou canât justââ she shoved at his chest, but he didnât move. âYou can't just touch me like that.â
He held her gaze. âWant me to stop?â
She froze. He said it so fast. He looked so smug. So⌠so very hot, standing there, licking his lips. Her eyes dropped, involuntarily, to his mouth â glossy and infuriating.
âDidnât think so,â he said.
Then he dipped down again, He trailed kisses across her collarbone, quicker this time. His fingers slipped to her shoulders, pushing her shirt back â revealing the thin straps of her bikini. Barely holding anything in.
One hand cupped her back, pulling her in. Her chest pressed into his face.
Then, suddenly â his mouth latched onto her skin just above her bikini top.
She gasped, hand threading through his curls. He bit gently, then sucked until a red mark bloomed against her skin.
âLando,â she hissed but it sounded more like a whimper.
He just hummed against her skin.
She let out a soft gasp as his teeth grazed the top of her breast, just above the bikini. Not too hard â but hard enough to make her gasp.
He pulled back, lips wet.
âYouâre so fucking annoying,â she said, cheeks flushed, brows furrowed.
He smirked, meeting her eyes as he turned toward the door.
âTimeâs up,â he said, casually adjusting his hoodie. âYou might wanna button up.â
Y/N lingered for a few extra seconds after the pantry door clicked shut behind Lando.
Her chest still rose and fell too quickly. Her skin was warm, her shirt crooked, and her thoughts louder than they had any right to be. She ran her hands through her hair, buttoned the linen shirt just enough to look halfway decent, and took one last deep breath.
When she stepped out into the butlerâs kitchen, Lando was already ahead â halfway down the hallway,Â
Y/N rolled her eyes, picked up her pace, and caught up to him with a quiet but firm, âLando.â
He stopped and glanced over his shoulder. âCouldnât get enough, huh?â
âShut up.â She reached out and grabbed his arm, pulling him to a stop. âI don't want to walk out there by myselfâ
He shrugged, turning to face her. âI thought you would want me to leave since that's what you usually doâ
She gave him a flat look. âYouâre such an ass.â
She knew he was just saying that to be annoying since, yes she did leave after they had sex before.
âYeah, yeah,â he said, grinning. âIt builds character.â
Y/Nâs eyes narrowed, but instead of snapping back, she just looked at him. ThenÂ
âCan you see it?â She asked gesturing to her chest
Lando gave her a once-over, hands tucked in his pockets âYes, but only because i know itâs thereâ
She looks at him, unamused. â Are you being serious or are you joking with me?â Â
He cracked a smile âNo, I canât see it, just keep your shirt right where it is nowâ
âThanksâ She says and pulls the shirt a little higher â I canât let anyone see thisâ She narrows her eyes at him
Lando looks at her amused âHide it all you want, but iâll knowâ
She shakes her head âYou are so childishâÂ
But she can help the laugh that escaped her and he joins her
âFix your hair,â she muttered, reaching up to nudge it. âYou look like you got electrocuted.â
He tilted his head down to her, the grin still tugging at his mouth. âBold of you to talk, considering youâre the one who did this.â
âMe?â she said, eyebrows lifting. âYou're the one who kept putting your head in myâwhatever.â
âOh, weâre censoring now?â he teased, stepping just a little closer. âCute.â
She gave him a halfhearted shove and tried not to smile. âYouâre impossible.â
âYou keep saying that,â he said, brushing a hand through his curls â only making them worse.
Y/N laughed quietly and rolled her eyes, her tone losing its edge. âYouâre also walking in front of me. I need at least ten seconds before people see me.â
Lando gave a mock bow. âYour wish is my command.â
They walked the last few steps side by side, arms brushing. Not on purpose â but not on accident either.
When they stepped back into the kitchen, the music had shifted, and most of the group had relocated to the sunken living room. Laughter and movie previews echoed softly in the background.
Y/N and Lando didnât say anything as they rejoined the others. But when someone looked up, Lando raised a brow and shot a lazy smirk in Y/Nâs direction.
She didnât return it â not exactly. But her lips twitched like she was trying not to.
And they both knew she wasnât trying that hard.
She walked up,Lando was shortly behind her.
Jamie spotted her first. His grin was immediate. âFif-teen whole minutes,â he sing-songed. âWe didnât actually think you two would do it.â
Y/N rolled her eyes and sank back into the couch beside Lucy. âDo what?â
Jamie raised his brows dramatically. âI donât know, but you were gone long enough to write a novella.â
Sophie, curled up on the couch next to Jamie, leaned forward. âSo?â she asked, curious. âWhat were you guys doing in there?â
Y/N blinked once, then shrugged like it was nothing. âTalking.â
Lucy looked at her sideways. âMustâve been a really deep conversation.â
Y/N just smiled. âYouâd be surprised.â
âCamille missed everything,â Sophie said, turning to glance over her shoulder. âShe passed out for like two hours.â
Y/N just hummed. âTough luck.â
And then, like fate had a cruel sense of timing, Camille entered from the kitchen with a drink in hand, her long legs folded into a pair of denim shorts. She scanned the room â and when her eyes landed on Lando, who was now walking in behind Y/N, her voice lifted like a bell.
âLando,â she said sweetly, patting the couch cushion beside her, âcome sit with me.â
Y/n just looked straight ahead at the TV as Lando â expression unreadable â walked over and sat beside Camille without a word.
The couch dipped under his weight. Camille tucked her legs beneath her and leaned into his side like it was muscle memory.
Y/N tilted her head, eyes still fixed on the glowing Netflix home screen.Â
Instead, she reached for the remote from the coffee table. âCan we please pick something before Jamie suggests âLove Islandâ again?â
âBold of you to assume I wasnât already queuing it up,â Jamie muttered, reaching for a chip.
Jamie made them watch 6 whole seasons back to back one time. And yes, they had found it to be very entertaining but at the same time she didnât think anyone wanted to watch people making up, borderline having sex on the tv screen right now.
Especially not Y/n, Not after the lingering tingly feeling from before
she finally leaned back into the cushions, casually tugging the collar of her shirt up a bit higher, she could feel the faint sting from the hickey blooming beneath the linen.
They finally settled on a scary movie â something with eerie silence and jump scares spaced out just enough to make everyone flinch in the dark.
The lights had been dimmed. Only the blue flicker of the TV lit the room. A bowl of popcorn made its way around the circle. Someone cracked open a Beer. Every so often, someone would gasp or laugh or groan dramatically when the music built to a sudden climax.
Y/N stayed curled up beside Lucy, her legs pulled close, blanket draped over her lap. Her face was calm, expression easy â but she wasnât watching the screen.
Not really, even if she wanted to know who had been possessed and was killing everyone.
She could feel Lando glancing at her.
It wasnât constant. He wasnât obvious. But she knew,it was like someone was pointing a laser at the side of her head and it started to burn after a while. She was pretending she didnât notice.
When there was a jumpscare she was glancing at him, he was already looking at her, smirking in full view. And she would raise a brow at him, questioning what the actual fuck he wanted. Then like nothing happened she would return her focus to the screen.
Camille, meanwhile, had no such subtlety. Sheâd tucked herself against Landoâs side, knees pressed to his thigh, hand resting lightly on his chest.
She was louder than anyone when something jumped out on-screen. Made a little dramatic gasp and pressed closer to him. She kept playing with the edge of his sleeve, tugging at the loose threads or brushing imaginary lint from his shoulder.
Lando let her.
He didnât pull away.
He let her head fall on his shoulder during one of the longer scenes. At one point, his fingers even grazed her knee â just a light, absentminded touch. Nothing intense.
But enough.
Y/N turned to look by the windows, noticing that the sky was getting darker. She had to look away to keep herself from laughing at the absurdity.Â
She reached for a handful of popcorn and popped one in her mouth,
She didnât give him the satisfaction of looking back. If Lando's plan was to confuse her then it had definitely worked.

Chapter three
The sun was already high when the yacht pulled away from the port, cutting through the turquoise water like a knife through glass.Â
Y/N stood at the bow, arms stretched out slightly as the breeze tangled through her hair. Behind her, someone opened a bottle of champagne with a loud pop.
âHey,â came Landoâs voice behind her. âYou know this isnât Titanic, right?â
She didnât turn. âIâm literally not even doing the pose.â
âYou were thinking about doing the pose.â
âCan you be any more annoying?â she say sarcasticallyÂ
He walked up beside her, sunglasses on, hoodie flapping slightly in the wind. âIâm just saying â if you fall in, Iâm not jumping in after you.â
She turned to him, hand shielding her eyes. âYouâd trip over your own ego before you made it to the edge.â
He grinned. âYou always have something nice to say.â
The rest of the group was scattered â parents lounging with drinks, Lucy and a few others sunbathing or taking photos. It wasnât wild, just warm and lazy and good.
âSo,â Lando said after a beat, âare you gonna DJ, or am I?â
âOh, no. Absolutely not. Last time you played music, it was a 2014 remix of âTurn Down For Whatâ and something that sounded like an EDM goat screaming.â
He blinked. âThatâs culture.â
âItâs a cry for help.â
But she followed him anyway toward the shaded lounge deck, where a Bluetooth speaker sat on the table, already paired to someoneâs phone.
She grabbed it before he could. âIâm saving everyoneâs ears.â
âPlease,â he said, flopping into the sun-drenched cushions. âYour music taste is just as ass as mine.â
She tapped the screen. âAnd yet, somehow, still better than whatever you think is âvibey.ââ
Soon, the soft sound of a summery playlist filled the air â easy, mellow, warm.
âSee?â she said, sinking into the cushions beside him, sipping from a can of sparkling water. âThis is yacht music.â
He closed his eyes and tipped his head back toward the sun. âAre you ever planning on moving back to Monaco?â
Y/N stretched her legs out in front of her, leaning back on her hands. âThereâs nothing for me here.â
âYou have me,â he said, shifting to sit directly in front of her.
She rolled her eyes but couldnât help the small smile that tugged at her lips. âYouâre so dramatic.â
âWhat? Am I not enough for you?â he asked, mock-offended, tossing in a bit of sass for good measure.
âLando,â she said, laughing under her breath, âmy job is in the States. What exactly would I do here? Where would I make money?â
âMe,â he said without missing a beat.
She shoved his shoulder lightly. âOh my God, stop.â
But she was laughing now â at his absurdity, at how completely unserious he was.
âHand me the sunscreen,â she added, shaking her head.
Lando reached behind him and passed it over. âIâm being completely serious, by the way. Just think of me as your personal sugar daddy.â
They both laughed.
âArenât you a little young to be a sugar daddy, dummy?â she said, squirting sunscreen into her palms and starting to rub it into her legs.
âAge doesnât matter when youâre a millionaire.â
âOh, right. I almost forgot.â Y/N said dryly. âYour majesty.â
Lando grinned wide, looking entirely too pleased with himself.
â------
After hours of sun, laughter, and music, most of the group had moved below deck or toward the back of the yacht where drinks and snacks had been set up. The energy had shifted â quieter, looser, the kind of lazy calm that came after too much heat and too many conversations.
Y/N finally found a moment alone.
She stretched out on a padded sunbed near the front of the boat, shaded just enough by the sail to avoid burning. Her sunglasses slipped lower on her nose, a half-finished book open across her stomach. The sea lapped gently below. Everything was still.
No one was bothering her. Not her mom. Not Lucy. And â thank god â not Lando.
She hadnât even realized how much space he took up until he wasnât there, cracking some half-dumb joke or elbowing her in the ribs or showing her videos she didnât ask to see.
She exhaled.
Finally,
Just water, wind, and silence.
She closed her eyes.
The sun had started to set by the time the energy on the boat picked up again. Someone turned the music up, the drinks were flowing again, and someone â probably Lucy â announced a spontaneous "hatch party" as everyone started making their way inside the main cabin where the bar and lights had been set up.
It was less of a party and more of a glorified hangout, but the lights were low, the music was louder, and people were dancing, swaying with drinks in hand like they had nowhere else in the world to be.
Y/N wandered in with damp hair, wearing a sheer cover up dress over her bikini and a fresh drink in her hand. She hovered near the back, near Lucy, just watching..
She spotted Lando across the room â leaning against the bar, laughing, one arm draped casually behind a girl. Her back was to them, so Y/N couldnât see who it was.
She tilted her head slightly, curious.
Leaning toward Lucy, she asked, âWhoâs that?â
Lucy followed her gaze. âThe girl with Lando?â
Y/N nodded. âMm-hmm.â
âOh. Camille, I think? She was here earlier â you didnât see her?â
Y/N shook her head and took another sip from her drink.
Lucyâs expression shifted, eyes widening just a little. âDid you know they got back together? Not long after you left, actually.â
âOh, really.â Y/Nâs tone was neutral. âAre theyââ
âStill together? No,â Lucy replied, pulling her sheer cover-up back over her shoulders. âBut I think she still likes him.â
Y/N hummed quietly. Camille was always the clingy type.Well. As long as heâs not bothering me.
Before the conversation could go any further, one of Lucyâs friends popped up beside them. âYou guys wanna play a game?â
âSure, what about you?â Y/N asked, glancing at Lucy.
âHell yeah, what are we playing?â Lucy said, already standing. She grabbed her half-finished drink and looked around the dimly lit cabin. âLetâs go outside where itâs quiet.â
A few of them murmured agreement, gathering phones and glasses as they made their way up the narrow stairs toward the upper deck. The late-night air was cooler now, soft with the scent of salt and wind. The stars above were scattered wide and sharp, the kind of sky you only got this far from the city.
Someone grabbed a pack of cards. Someone else opened Spotify on their phone. The mood shifted â still lively, but looser now, like the edge had worn off the buzz.
Y/N sat cross-legged on a cushioned bench, stretching her arms overhead with a quiet sigh.
âTruth or dare,â Lucy announced, holding up the cards. âCard edition. If you skip, you drink. No complaining.â
Everyone groaned, but no one objected.
The questions started harmless â celebrity crushes, last Google searches, most embarrassing moments.
Then one of Lucyâs friends â a girl named ZoĂŤ with perfect beachy hair and a mischievous smile â pulled a card and turned to the friend beside her.
âOkay, Sophie. Who on this boat would you hook up with?â
Sophie covered her face. âNo, no, noââ
âYou have to answer!â
Sophie peeked through her fingers, already red. âUgh. Fine. Lando, probably.â
A few people laughed.
âOf course,â ZoĂŤ teased. âI bet you were imagining how it would feel to have your hands on his hard-.â
âEw!â Lucy and Y/n said at the same time
âLetâs not forget that heâs my brother!â Lucy say exaggerating the word brotherÂ
âWhat? I was gonna say abs!â ZoĂŤ said laughingÂ
âPlease stop,â Sophie insisted, but she was smiling. âI just think heâs hot, okay? And heâs funny. And chill.â
âIf only they knew what heâs really likeâ Lucy whispered to meÂ
And we both start laughingÂ
The next card was passed, but someone else â a guy named Jamie â leaned over toward Y/N with a grin. âWhat about you, Y/N? Youâve known him forever. Did you ever think Lando was attractive?â
The laughter pauses just slightly.
Y/N looked up, surprised by the directness.Â
She shrugged, keeping her expression neutral. âHe is attractive. Iâm not blind.â
âHave you ever had a crush on him?â Sophie added, eyes wide with curiosity now.
Y/N gave a short laugh. âNo. We were basically siblings growing up.âÂ
And yet that didnât stop us from hooking. I thought as I practically lie to her face
ZoĂŤ raised an eyebrow. âThat doesnât mean anything . People grow up. People get hotter.â
Y/N raised her glass to her lips with a laugh trying to get the conversation to move to something elseÂ
âGuys trust me my brother is the complete opposite of y/ns typeâ
A couple of them laughed, the mood bouncing back easily. No one pressed her further.
But as the next card was pulled and someone dared Jamie to do a handstand, everyone started refilling their drinks and dancing, the music drifting a little louder with the breeze.
Y/N stayed leaned back into the cushion, half-listening to the chaos, letting the soft air settle around her. The stars above were clearer now, and the sea stretched out black and endless on all sides. She didnât feel like getting up. She didnât feel like laughing.
Not in a bad way â she just felt still. Present. The kind of quiet that felt earned after a long day.
She didnât even notice the sliding door open behind her until she heard footsteps approaching.Â
Lando dropped into the empty cushion beside her, his drink in hand, wearing the same faded hoodie from earlier, now a little salt-stiff and loose around the sleeves.
He didnât say anything right away. Just glanced over at her with a tired smile. âHiding?â
She didnât look at him. Just smirked. âResting.â
He nodded, leaning slightly into her. âSmart.â
Y/N rested her head on his shoulder, staring down at the nearly empty glass in her hand. âMhm.â
There was a pause.
âI shouldâve told you Camille would be here,â he said quietly.
She didnât move. âYou didnât need to.â
Her eyes stayed on the last bits of ice melting in her drink, swirling slowly like the rest of her thoughts.
Lando shifted beside her so she could see his face.Â
Y/N just shrugged. âWhat?â
He gave her a look. That look â the one that said you know exactly what I mean.
She sighed. âSheâs your ex, not mine. If anything you should be the one not wanting her here.â
Ok maybe sheâs a little bitter but the words slipped out before she had time to filter them.Â
Camille had never liked her. That was just the truth. She always made a point of letting Y/N know how much closer she was to Lando â As if I gave a damn.Â
Like the time Y/N ate shrimp on the beach and Camille had said, sweet as syrup, âI stopped eating seafood ages ago â Lando canât stand it, you know.â
As if that was something to flex about.
Congrats, Y/N had wanted to say. You gave up prawns for a boy. Thatâs not a personality trait.â
But sheâd let it go. Like she always did.
âI stopped entertaining her a long time ago,â Y/N added, brushing her thumb around the rim of her glass.
Lando leaned in again, elbow brushing hers.
âAre you jealous?â he asked, poking her thigh lightly with two fingers, teasing.
âYes, Iâm jealous that youâre here annoying me now instead of herâ
He laughs shoving my shoulders
âThatâs assuming thatâs what we were doing,â Lando said, voice teasing.
âThen what were you doing?â I asked.
He gave me that smug little grin. âWhy do you care?â
I knew I shouldnât have asked. I could already feel myself regretting it.
âI donât,â I said.âI was just trying to give a damn.â
I stood, tugging the hem of my dress down where it had ridden up from sitting too long. The motion gave me an excuse not to look at him.
I turned to leave, but his hand wrapped around my wrist before I could take a step.
âWe didnât do anything,â he said, eyes meeting mine, steady and serious now.
I froze.
And for a second, I just stared at him, unsure what I was supposed to say to that â unsure if I even wanted to say anything at all
â---------------
The next morning the sun shimmered across the surface of the sea, soft waves rocking the anchored yacht like it had nowhere else to be. From her spot on the upper deck, Y/N could see everything â the horizon, the coast, and most of the chaos unfolding below.
She was tucked in the shade, legs folded beneath her, sunglasses halfway down her nose. She hadnât moved in twenty minutes.
It was peaceful.
Until Lucy flopped down beside her with a sigh. âKnew Iâd find you up here.â
Y/N didnât look over. âHow?â
âYou disappear like itâs your job,â Lucy said, passing her a cold can of lemon soda. âItâs basically your brand.â
âThanks.â Y/N cracked it open, the fizz hissing faintly in the warm air.
They sat there quietly, soaking in the breeze and the distance from everyone else. Somewhere below, someone played music from a phone speaker â a chill playlist, nothing too upbeat. The others were probably gathered around the back deck again, still half-recovering from the night before.
Y/N took a slow sip. âHave you eaten yet?â
âHalf a banana and a leftover piece of baguette,â Lucy said. âYou?â
âDoes soda count?â
Lucy smiled and leaned her head back. âThis is the most relaxed Iâve been all weekend.â
And it was â until a burst of laughter rose from below, drawing both of their attention.
Y/N glanced over the railing and spotted Lando standing near the back table â braced against it with one arm, the other hand resting comfortably on Camilleâs leg who stood in front of him, her hands rested on his shoulders. She tilted her head to say something, and he leaned in, his face close to hers, wearing an easy, effortless grin.
Y/N Scoffed.
Then laughed under her breath
And muttered, just loud enough for Lucy to hear, âDidnât do anything my ass.â
Lucy snorted immediately, covering her mouth. âYouâre awful.â
They both went quiet again, watching for a second longer â Then Y/N turned to lucy.
âI give it an hour before sheâs sitting in his lap,â Lucy said mischievously .
âThirty minutes,â Y/n countered. âTen if someone starts pouring tequila.â
Lucy grins. âWhoevers right gets the biggest room at the resort.â
âBetâ Y/n says fist bumbling in agreementÂ
They continued staring of the two until
Lucy nudged Y/N with her foot. âOkay, but⌠the water looks really good right now.â
Y/N shifted to glance over the railing again â past the lounging bodies and scattered sunglasses, past Camille and her not-so-subtle flirting â to the sea beyond.
It did look good.
Clear and blue and weightless.
âKind of rude how inviting it is,â Y/N said, finishing the last of her drink and setting the can down beside her.
Lucy stood and stretched. âCome on. Letâs go in before everyone else.â
Y/N pushed herself up too. âAbsolutelyâ
âWeâll have the ocean all to ourselves,â Lucy said as they started down the stairs to the lower deck. âAnd plus...Swimming is the only thing between me and heatstroke.â
As soon as they reached the back of the boat, the sun hit them harder â bouncing off the water, warming every inch of exposed skin. Y/N was still mid-step, kicking off her sandals, when she heard fast footsteps coming up behind them.
Too late.
Jamieâs voice shouted gleefully: âIncoming!â
Before either of them could react, arms wrapped around both their waists and splash â they were airborne.
The water hit cold and sharp, but in the best possible way.
Y/N came up gasping, hair slicked to her face, laughing despite herself. Lucy surfaced beside her with a yell.
âJamie! Are you serious?!â
Jamie popped up grinning, arms spread wide like heâd just pulled off a magic trick. âIt was too easy. You were standing there like bait.â
Y/N wiped the water from her eyes, smiling as she caught her breath. âYouâre lucky I didnât hit my leg on the deck.â
âYouâre lucky I didnât drop my earrings,â Lucy added, flipping her wet hair over one shoulder dramatically.
âYouâre lucky you needed cooling off,â Jamie said, and then took off swimming backwards like a smug little sea goblin.
Lucy and her swam to one of the floaties âwhat time is it?â lucy asks as we not so subtly stare at lando and camilleÂ
â10 on the dot!â Y/n says giggling after waiting for the time to turn from 9:59 to 10:00
âOk lets see who winsâ Lucy says and slashes away, y/n following after
Y/N floated on her back, letting the water rock her, sunlight flickering through her lashes. It was cold, but not too cold. Her limbs felt light.Â
The water had started to feel warmer now â the kind of warm that meant it was time to get out. Her fingers were pruned, and the sun had crept higher in the sky, heating the boatâs deck with a soft, dry shimmer.
It had been barely 20 minutes after they got in the water and camille was already sitting next to lando with her legs over his left leg
âHah!â I yelled after checking the time
âOk iâll give it to you this time, only because i havenât seen you in yearsâ Lucy had said dramaticallyÂ
Then they continued swimming around. Itâs now been about another hour and Camille has left a while ago.
Y/N gave Lucy a look and nodded toward the boat. âIâm getting out.â
âTell Jamie if he cannonballs again, Iâm feeding him to the sea,â Lucy called back.
Y/N laughed, already swimming toward the back ladder.
She climbed out slowly, feeling the sun hit her skin in that sudden, welcome way. The white linen shirt she had on when Jamie threw them in the water clung to her skin like glue, she pulled it away and padded across the deck barefoot, water still dripping from her legs.
Lando, now alone on the upper bench seat, a towel around his neck and sunglasses low on his nose. Everyone else had either gone inside or stayed in the water. It was just him, sitting in the shade like heâd been there the whole time â elbows resting on his knees, drink forgotten at his side.
She walked over casually, footsteps soft against the teak boards.
âYou didnât come in,â she said, her voice light.
He looked up, and something flickered behind his eyes before he smiled. âSomeone had to hold the boat together.â
She gave a short laugh. âRight. Wouldâve fallen apart without your moral support.â
âExactly,â he said, reaching for something beside him. He tossed a fresh towel her way. âYouâre dripping all over the nice wood.â
She caught it, half amused. âWow. Chivalryâs not dead.â
âJust waterlogged.â
Y/N unfolded the towel and ran it over her shoulders and arms, soaking up what the sun hadnât already started to dry. The linen shirt was still damp and heavy against her skin, clinging stubbornly as she reached for the buttons.
She worked at them slowly â the fabric sticking here and there, frustratingly difficult to peel off.
Lando watched her, and she caught him once through the corner of her eye.
âSeriously, though,â she said, not looking up. âWhy didnât you come in?â
He shrugged. âDidnât feel like being social.â
Y/N raised a brow but didnât push. She finally slipped the shirt off and tossed it over the railing, standing there in her swimsuit as she dried off the rest of her arms. Then she wrapped the towel loosely around her shoulders
âThatâs not what it looked like earlier,â she said casually, giving him a sidelong glance.
âThat wasnâtââ he started, rubbing the back of his neck. âThat was justâŚâ
She kicked his foot lightly. âMove.â
He shifted over, and she dropped beside him onto the cushions.
âSo,â she said, wringing out the ends of her wet hair, âare you guys getting back together or what?â
âShe wants to,â Lando admitted, eyes forward.
âIs that what youâve been thinking about all morning?â
He gave another shrug, not confirming or denying.
After a beat of silence Lando turns to herâYou and Lucy werenât exactly being subtle, I saw you guys staring, What were you and Lucy whispering about?â he smirks looking straight at herÂ
She blinked, feigning innocence. âUs? Whispering? Never.â
âCome on,â he said, clearly amused. âYou two were being sneaky. You guys kept glancing over thinking I wouldn't notice. What was it?â
âI donât know what youâre talking about,â she said with a tight smile, trying to slide off the bench.
But Lando reached out and grabbed her wrist, grinning. âNot a chance. Spill.â
Y/N groaned. âFine. We made a bet.â
That caught his attention. âWhat kind of bet?â
She looked away, biting the inside of her cheek. âItâs⌠too embarrassing.â she admits, groaningÂ
âOh, come on.â He leaned closer, dramatic. âIâm your best friend. How embarrassing can it be?â
Very embarrassing, she thought.
She hesitated, then sighed. âOkay, okay. We made a bet to see howââ
And right when sheâs about to spill, his grip on her wrist loosened just enough.
She yanked free and bolted.
âSorry, Lando!â she called over her shoulder, sprinting across the deck toward the main cabin, towel flying behind her. âItâs too embarrassing!â
She heard his laugh chasing her through the doorway.
âY/Nâ!â he called. âYou canât do that! Iâm gonna figure it out!â

Chapter Two
Gordes came alive at night.
The town glowed under string lights and lanterns, its narrow cobblestone streets humming with tourists, clinking silverware, and music from tucked-away wine bars. The group had taken up a long table at a rustic bistro on the edge of the village, overlooking the cliffs.
Everyone was in good spirits. Lucy had already taken a hundred photos. Their moms were tipsy and talking about planning a spa day. Y/N was doing her best to enjoy the night without making eye contact with the person sitting far too comfortably beside her.
Lando.
Of course heâd slid into the seat next to hers. Of course he was sitting close enough that their elbows kept brushing. He was already on his second cocktail and still riding the smug high of their earlier conversation in the garden.
And worse?
She knew he wasnât going to behave.
He leaned over during the second round of tapas. âWant the last chorizo?â
âNo thanks,â Y/N said.
He raised a brow. âWeird. You didnât say no to meat last time.â
She froze.
Fork mid-air.
Her mom was mid-sentence. Lucy was looking at something on her phone.
No one heard it.
But Y/N heard it.
Her head turned slowly. âYouâre actually the worst person alive.â
Lando just popped the chorizo in his mouth with a grin. âGood thing youâve got excellent taste.â
She drained half her glass of sangria in one go.
By the time dessert arrived, Lando had toned it down, and Y/N was comfortably ignoring him. The group was deciding whether to walk or drive home when someone suggested a nightcap back at the villa. Y/N was two drinks past making responsible decisions, so she went along without protest.
Back at the villa, the parents peeled off early â too much wine, too much sun. Lucy disappeared upstairs to FaceTime someone, and just like that, Y/N found herself alone in the kitchen again.
Not alone for long.
Lando strolled in barefoot, two glasses in hand.
âI found the tequila,â he said.
Y/N didnât move from where she sat on the counter. âIs this your thing now? Appearing every time Iâm alone?â
âI think itâs our thing,â he said, handing her a glass. âYou ditch, I follow. You deny, I remind. Itâs a rhythm.â
She took the tequila, eyed it, and then downed it in one smooth go.
He blinked. âOkay, damn.â
âI figured itâd make you less annoying,â she said, setting the glass down.
âNope,â he replied, pouring another shot. âPermanent condition.â
She hopped off the counter and moved toward the doorway.
But before she could get past him, Lando stepped in front of her.
She stopped short.
He didnât touch herâbut he planted one hand on the counter beside her hip, and then the other. Not aggressive. Just there. Leaning in, caging her in with casual, maddening confidence.
Y/N tilted her chin up slowly, meeting his eyes. âSeriously?â
He smirked, voice low. âJust checking to see if you flinch.â
She didnât move. âI donât.â
âSure about that?â
Her pulse thudded a little harder than she wanted to admit. But she held her ground.
âYouâre not nearly as intimidating as you think you are, Norris.â
âNo,â he said, gaze dipping just briefly to her mouth, âbut Iâm a lot more entertaining.â
They stood like that for a moment. Close. Charged. Eyes locked.
A beat too long.
Then she pushed lightly at his chestânot with force, just enough.
He stepped back, grinning.
âIâm going to bed,â she said, brushing past him.
âYou sure? No disappearing act before sunrise?â
She paused in the doorway, not looking back. âNo need. Itâs not like I woke up regretting anything.â
He grinned. âGood. Neither did I. Iâve had worse nights.â
She smirked. âIâve had better.â
He raised his glass. âTouchĂŠ.â
And with that, she walked outâunshaken on the outside.
But her skin was buzzing where heâd been close. Too close.
Lando leaned against the counter alone, sipping his tequila and smiling to himself.
-----------------------âąď¸
The midday heat had turned the villaâs stone walls into a sun trap. The pool shimmered like glass in the sunlight, the air thick with the scent of sunscreen, citrus, and summer. Everyone had migrated outside â half-sunk in lounge chairs, music humming low from someoneâs speaker, sunglasses shielding lazy eyes.
Y/N sat at the edge of the pool, legs in the water, a lemon soda balanced on her thigh. Her hair was damp, her shoulders sticky with SPF, and for the first time since arriving, she felt something close to calm.
âMove,â Lando said behind her.
She looked over her shoulder. âWhat?â
He pointed to the exact spot she was sitting. âThatâs my dive lane.â
She scoffed. âYou donât have a dive lane.â
âI do now.â
âYou havenât even gotten wet yet.â
He spread his arms dramatically. âItâs called making an entrance.â
âYouâre the most high-maintenance person I know.â
âAnd yet,â he said, stepping back and cannonballing into the water with zero warning, âyou missed me.â
Water exploded around her, soaking her towel and nearly knocking the soda from her knee.
Y/N sputtered, standing up and flinging her sunglasses off. âYou absolute menace.â
He surfaced, wiping water from his face and grinning. âYou were in the splash zone. Consider it a courtesy warning.â
She splashed him in the face. Hard.
âOh, itâs like that?â he said, already swimming toward her.
âDonât you dareââ
He grabbed her ankle. She shrieked, laughing, and tried to back away, but he tugged until she lost balance and fell in with a loud, graceless splash.
They surfaced at the same time, both coughing and laughing, water in their noses and ears.
âChild,â she said, shoving his shoulder.
âCoward,â he replied. âWhat, you scared of getting your hair wet?â
She slicked it back with both hands. âThis is a look. You couldnât pull it off.â
Lando gave her a slow, exaggerated once-over. âYeah, okay. Iâll give you that.â
They floated side by side for a while, the silence between them easy now. Comfortable. Their friends splashed on the other side of the pool, and the villa loomed golden in the background.
He bumped her with his elbow. âThis is better, isnât it?â
She nodded, without looking at him. âYeah.â
âNo parents hovering. No fancy dinner table. Just⌠us.â
She smiled, small and real. âLike weâre fourteen again.â
He grinned. âExcept Iâm more attractive now.â
She snorted. âYou peaked at sixteen and never recovered.â
âOuch.â
Y/N swam to the edge and pulled herself out, grabbing a towel and flopping onto a sun lounger.
Lando followed, dripping everywhere, not caring.
âRemember when we used to bet on who could hold their breath longer?â he asked, grabbing a can of soda from the cooler.
âYou always cheated.â
âStrategic use of lungs.â
âYou kicked me in the ribs mid-dive once.â
He popped the can open. âAnd you shoved me into a vending machine in Spain. Weâve all done things.â
She laughed, head resting against the back of the lounger.
For a moment, there was no tension. No memory of Monaco. No unspoken anything.
Just two best friends, slipping back into something they didnât realize theyâd missed.

Chapter One
The Provençal countryside in late summer was unapologetically perfectâlavender fields in full bloom, cicadas singing from the olive trees, and a sky so blue it looked fake. The villa sat perched on a sun-soaked hillside, its walls the color of old parchment and its terrace dressed in white linen and wine glasses. It was the kind of place people spent years dreaming of visiting.
But Y/N had no interest in the view.
Not when he would be there.
The invitation had come out of nowhereâher mother, giddy, saying how âthe Norris family rented a villa near Gordes! Isnât that fun? Like old times! Dinner on Saturday, dress nice.â
Old times.
Right.
Old times didnât include sneaking out of a hotel room in Monaco before sunrise and ghosting your best friend like he was a bad decision in a city full of them.
She hadnât seen Lando since that night.
Five years.
She would have ignored the invitation. She should have. But then again, running away didnât work the first time either.
The driveway crunched under her sandals as she stepped out of the car. Laughter and clinking glasses echoed from the terrace. Her mother was already at the table, mid-story with Cisca Norris, animated and flushed from wine and sun.
Y/N drew a deep breath, adjusted the strap of her dress, and walked up the stone path.
And then she saw him.
Lando.
Leaning back in his chair, a glass of white wine in hand, sunglasses tucked into the collar of his linen shirt like a poster boy for effortless charm. His hair was a little longer, his jaw sharper, and the cocky tilt of his smile had only grown worse with age.
He saw her instantly.
And of course, he grinned.
âWell, well,â he said, standing to greet her. âLook who finally decided to show upâand through the front door this time.â
Y/N froze for half a beat. Her motherâs laughter covered the tension like a napkin over a spill.
âLando,â Y/N said, dry, measured. âStill talking too much?â
He stepped forward, arms open in mock sincerity. âYou wound me. After all weâve been throughâŚâ
âDonât.â
It slipped out faster than she intendedâquiet, sharp. His smile twitched like he heard it for what it really was.
Their parents kept chatting, clueless.
He leaned in a little, dropping his voice so only she could hear. âRelax. Iâm not gonna tell them you ran out on me after twenty minutes.â
Her eyes flicked up, narrowing. âTwenty? Thatâs generous.â
âOuch,â he said, smirking, âyou still keeping score?â
âI forgot it happened.â
âNo you didnât.â
She moved past him and took a seat, forcing a calm smile as Cisca poured her wine.
The table buzzed with chatterâvacation plans, old stories, updates about mutual friends. But under the polite conversation, under the warmth and laughter, was that unspoken thing between them. Like a live wire, hidden under linen and wine glasses.
Lando didnât bring it up again.
Not directly.
But every time she looked up, he was watching her.
To everyone else, they were old friends reunitedâcomfortable, familiar, easy.
But when the dessert plates were cleared and the conversation shifted to travel and gossip, Lando stood and stretched with a quiet groan.
âI need a break from this table,â he said casually. âGonna grab another drink. Anyone want?â
A few murmured declines, but then he looked right at her.
âYou coming?â
Y/N hesitated. Just a moment too long.
Then she stood. âSure.â
She followed him through the archway and into the villa, where the air was cooler and the music from the terrace faded into a soft echo. They walked in silence through the kitchen, past the wine rack, and toward the front of the house, where a second patio overlooked the hills.
Lando popped open a second bottle of red and poured himself a lazy glass, glancing over his shoulder when he heard her walk in.
Y/N stopped by the counter, arms folded. âYou seriously dragged me in here just for wine?â
He smirked. âNah. I needed a break from hearing how much Lucyâs dog costs in monthly grooming.â
She snorted, reluctantly. âFair.â
He poured a second glass and held it out to her. âDonât worry, I wonât bring it up.â
She raised a brow. âBring what up?â
He gave her a look. One that said donât play dumb.
She rolled her eyes and grabbed the glass from his hand.
âI mean,â he said casually, leaning against the counter, âitâs not every day your childhood best friend seduces you and then ghosted you before breakfast.â
She coughed into her wine.
âI did not seduce you,â she said flatly.
âRight,â he said, nodding. âYou just happened to climb into my lap in a hotel suite after three glasses of champagne and sayâwhat was it again? Oh, right. âDonât overthink it.ââ
She groaned. âJesus. I shouldâve hooked up with your teammate instead.â
âOof. Cold.â He held a hand to his chest, mock-wounded. âBut you didnât. You chose me. Regrettably.â
âExtremely regrettably.â
He grinned. âWell, Iâll always have the honor of being your worst mistake in Monaco.â
âYouâre assuming there was only one.â
âOuch.â
She took another sip and leaned back against the counter beside him, keeping a healthy two feet of space between them. âSeriously though,â she said, quieter now, âcan we not make a thing out of it?â
Lando shrugged. âIâm not making a thing. Iâm just having fun.â
She gave him a sidelong glance. âYouâre annoying.â
âAnd youâre predictable,â he said, nudging her foot with his. âThe second you saw me tonight, I could see the panic in your face. Like I was gonna tell everyone you jumped me.â
âGod, youâre unbearable.â
âBut honest.â
They stood in silence for a moment, the kind of silence that wouldâve been heavy five years agoâbut now it just felt like a joke neither of them really wanted to explain.
She turned to go. âIâm going back out before someone notices weâre gone and starts gossiping.â
He raised his glass. âGo on, then. Iâll just stay here, quietly nursing my trauma.â
She paused in the doorway, smirking. âThatâd be a first.â
He watched her leave, shaking his head to himself.
It hadnât meant anything.
And thatâs exactly why it was so much fun to mess with her about it.
.           .
The next morning in Provence was indecently bright.
Y/N had barely touched her croissant. She sat at the outdoor breakfast table in oversized sunglasses, coffee in hand, staring at nothing while Lucy rambled about some art exhibit in Marseille. The air smelled like espresso, wild herbs, and sun-heated stone.
Lando strolled in late, naturally.
Shirt wrinkled. Hair damp from a shower. Smirk already loaded.
âMorning,â he said, sliding into the seat across from her like it had been assigned.
Y/N didnât look up. âSomeoneâs finally awake.â
He reached for a croissant. âYou sound thrilled to see me.â
âThrilled isnât the word.â
âEmbarrassed?â he offered, voice too innocent.
Lucy didnât even look up from her phone. âAre you two fighting already?â
Y/N forced a laugh. âWe donât fight. He just exists.â
Lando bit into the pastry, eyes locked on her over the rim of his coffee cup. âCome on, Y/N. Weâve shared more than insults.â
Her knee hit the underside of the table with a jolt.
Lucy looked up. âYou okay?â
âFine,â Y/N said through gritted teeth, shooting Lando a death glare.
He grinned around another sip of coffee, maddeningly casual.
Later that day, after everyone scattered for naps, swims, and sightseeing, Y/N escaped to the shaded garden at the back of the villa with a book. She hadnât made it past the second page when she heard footsteps crunch on gravel behind her.
Lando.
Of course.
He flopped into the lounge chair beside hers, stretching like a satisfied cat.
âDonât you have somewhere else to be?â she asked, flipping a page she hadnât actually read.
âNowhere better than here. Youâre the most entertaining part of this trip.â
She sighed, closing the book. âAre you seriously still on this?â
âStill? I havenât started. Iâve been very respectful.â
âRespectful?â she scoffed. âYou made a passive-aggressive joke at breakfast.â
He shrugged. âPassive-aggressive is basically love language in this family.â
Y/N gave him a deadpan stare. âYou really want to do this?â
He leaned in a little, propping his head on his hand. âDo what?â
âThis weird flirty-memory-trolling thing. It was one night. A dumb one. We donât have to keep circling it.â
âIâm not circling it,â he said. âIâm just saying itâs fun watching you squirm. Thatâs all.â
âIâm not squirming.â
âYou are. Youâve been squirming since I said hi.â
She narrowed her eyes. âIt wasnât even good.â
Lando didnât miss a beat. âThatâs funny, because you literally saidââ
She pointed at him. âFinish that sentence and I will push you into the pool.â
His grin widened. âTouchy.â
âAnnoying.â
âYou know what your problem is?â
âPlease,â she groaned, âenlighten me.â
âYouâre used to pretending things didnât happen. But I remember them.â
âVividly?â she asked, dry.
âOh yeah,â he said, winking. âTragically.â
She stood up, grabbing her book, sunglasses back in place. âIâm leaving.â
âAgain?â
She paused, looked down at him, and tilted her head. âJust remember, Landoâyou were the one who caught feelings for thirty seconds before I ghosted.â
His smile didnât falter. âNah. I just had questions. Like, where the hell were my pants?â
She snorted before she could stop herself.
âBye, Norris.â
He watched her walk away, the grin still on his face.
It meant nothing. But it was still his favorite story.
