They're pocket-size :)
I'd say you're a lot more than just my minion these days...
AYO???

A WIP based on one of the requests I received on X. I've been trying to get back into drawing since January and have been struggling a bit... I hope 2025 opens up new opportunities...
I saw this and thought of you. Thoughts?

Harding & Emmrich - Moving Too Fast Banter Dissection
Love you for thinking of me and tagging me in this because this banter is VITAL to Emmrich x Rook's dynamic.
The jist of the dialogue banter being discussed is as follows:
Emmrich gave Harding an item that didn't work, Emmrich states that he has been distracted. Harding: "What with you and Rook becoming..." Emmrich: "You noticed..?" Harding: "I'm sure you two getting together is... only Rook's kind of, younger...so" Emmrich: "It's not - What are you getting at harding?" Harding: "You two are sort of moving quickly.." Emmrich: "May we change topics?"
To initially answer this in relation to the OP post, I believe the 'moving quickly' is in relation to their infatuation and connection to eachother. This is particularly noticeable with a Mourn Watch Rook, however, it's still noticeable in another Rook. I note that with a MW Rook, Harding is privy to one of the very first conversations you can have with Emmrich in the Lighthouse. Where all three discuss Necromancy and the burial process, and Harding states that Rook sounds 'fancier' when discussing these topics (linked). This, for me, was Harding's first observation at the type of connection MW Rook and Emmrich share - a deep and unbridabled passion. Possibly leading to Hardings disposition on their eventual relationship.
Back to the moving quickly context, codex entries, letters, or bits of pieces of eachother's belongings in eachothers rooms would've been a lovely addition. However, I will work with what is provided. By the time this conversation from Harding is triggered, Emmrich and Rook have shown an interest in eachother and have opened up to one another. They share a bond, a great bond. And if you've read my dissections, you'll know that this bond reaches beyond the veil to other worlds.
Let us keep in mind that Emmrich has yearned for this type of love since he was a child. It manifested into craving affection, then enduring love, then marriage throughout his life. However, he never found it. So he gave up. He gave up and went in search of another purpose - Lichdom. Although this post focuses on the mortal path - Lichdom was always apart of Emmrich's plan. It is only that he has found either the love of his life with Rook or found the family he so desperately craved with the Veilguard - that he would be willing to let go of his dream of lichdom, for his other dream of untold love. Backed by a banter dialogue with Davrin, here.
Additionally, with that information - Emmrich is of course absoloutley infatuated and obsessed with Rook. Not only by who they are, but what they represent, to him. Love, enduring affection, companionship, potential marriage. Everything that Emmrich has dreamed of. Marriage was also a topic of discussion between Harding and Emmrich, find it here.
These two were most likely sneaking kisses, and holding hands in his library and the balcony throughout our travels during Veilguard. They are very much *heart eyes* at eachother, and that is obvious from the first quest of Emmrichs. I'm not surprised that the discourse of them moving too fast came up, because to others, they most likely were very affectionate, fast. And quite frankly, I'm a fan of it. I love two insane, soul bound, in love freaks who just go for it because they recognise eachothers souls. The two are made for eachother.
In saying that, let's think back to the argument scene, and his reaction, Rook's reaction. The reaction of two people, so scared to lose eachother, lose their future, their plans, their sought after love. After only just finding eachother. Emmrich is torn apart on the inside because what if he loses his dream? The two of them, are in love, almost immediately. Hence, moving fast.
Additinally, Emmrich does not want the conversation to continue. He's straight up, doesn't want someone's opinion. What would they know?
Don't worry - I have more, because there is more. This is actually a 3 part banter dialogue. [LINK HERE] Lets continue -
Harding: "Emmrich, about earlier...when I brought up you and Rook being together Emmrich: "Yes..?" Harding: "Look, you were in a crypt with all your dusty books and suddenly Rook bursts into your own life and.." Emmrich: "I keep my books pristine!" Harding: "I get it. Rook's, Rook. Wild and eager. Just whisking you away and now it's all candles and showers of ghost petals! It's great, but, you've also been kind of pre-occupied, ya know...mopey." Emmrich: "Mopey?!"
Emmrich has a tendency to be very short and aloof when he is defensive. Harding calls Emmrich mopey after Rook entering his life and they get close.
Now, part 3 -
Emmrich: "I am not, mopey, Harding." (annoyed) Harding: "Uh, yeah you are. You're so mopey you misalign the spirit ether- what's it, twice this week, and your skull thing is crooked! Emmrich: "My collar pin is perfectly straight." Emmrich: "Ohh (deep sigh), I do worry sometimes about what people might think about Rook and myself. Given our ages. Not to mention the spectre of acting like a besotted fool." Harding: "You're not...that bad. My Ma always says, it's fun to go at full gallop, but you still have to keep your eyes open, tree branches and stuff." Emmrich: "I will, thank you Lace."
Emmrich, is in love. A distracted, can't stop thinking about the love of my life, in love man. There is no other way to put it. He calls him self a besotted fool because he is a FOOL in love - at his age, he likely feels some shame around it. A 50 year old man, acting like a teenage boy in love. Hence, and as @chantrytears and I have stated, his cool, calm, confident exterior is a front. He doesn't want to come accross as a besotted fool, and because we play as Rook, we won't see it from our perspective until he starts to crack during the argument and afterwards.
His besotedness is evident in the banter dialogue throughout the game, (which is mainly with Harding where you find out about most of his 'endearment' past). He reveals he wanted to be married when he was younger, he gave up, 'until rook' with whom he now consider close family. The crooked skelton pin. Forgetting to align items correctly. Hell I know I've thought about fictional men and at times people where I forget to do thins, or do things wrong, because you're well, obsessed.
All in all. Yeah they may of moved fast, but not in our realities sense, in the emotional sense. and honestly? I love them for it. Still not a fan of any of Harding's dialogue here, but grateful we get to see Emmrich call himself a fool for being in love.
*drops mic*
With Emmrich's romance which version do u prefer lich or not? And why?
Oh this is a hard one for me, I am very torn on which path I prefer.
Thank you so much for asking!
Allow me to explain why I am torn -
Lich Path
This path holds a place in my heart. On one hand, Emmrich has achieived his dreams of lichdom and averted his fear of death. We love an ambitious king who remains irrevocably in love. But he has not faced his fear, he averted it. Emmrich's fear of death most likely stems from his parents and with being apart of the Watchers since he was a child - similar to Rook Ingellvar. If Emmrich takes up lichdom, his fear of death does not dissapear, it transfers to Rook.
Whilst both mortal and lich Emmrich fear Rook's death quite heavily, when Emmrich is a lich, this fear is based around Rook's death and Emmrichs inevitable grief that will follow for eternity. I am of the mind where I believe that Emmrich would 'go rogue' if Rook were to pass on. Purely because of the type of love they share, Emmrich's past, and that he would not be able to cope with the loss of the flame of his heart. The most magnificant thing to ever happen to him.
In saying that, when Emmrich takes up lichdom, Rook states that Emmrich has everything he needs to tackle Lichdom. (i.e., you can accept the death of others, including Rook). Incredibly wrong, so incredibly wrong as seen throughout the rest of the romance following. A) His argument with Rook about death and living without them for eternity (man would go rogue due to who he is as a person), B) He is found by Davrin crying in his room, alone, after the death of Manfred. C) Throughout the banter in the game, Emmrich avoids and/or is cold to the topic of Manfred's death. Dismissing and avoiding any claim that he misses him.
Emmrich is not equipped to take up lichdom because he feels so deeply, and loves so deeply. So fucking deeply. He borderlines being an empath with OCPD if you wanna get literal. His obsessions and compulsions being death, affection, and magic.
Whilst I believe that boths boths embody the soulmate trope, I adore this path because it transcends reality and they would, Emmrich would, find Rook in each world. Through any means neccessary. Yes - Emmrich is about rules and order, and is gentle and kind, but this man (now lich lord) is a powerful mage. A very powerful mage who can speak to the dead. There are hints throughout his romance that he would go unhinged should his weakness (Rook) be exploited (aka, dead). Read about and see more below -
See cinematic here, and dissection of the romance here.
Mortal Path
I am yet to dissect the mortal argument & romance scene, however they will be coming shortly, but for now I will expand my thoughts here. You can find the intial romance dissection here .
Mortal Emmrich path is incredibly wholesome and fullfilling. Emmrich gives up his dream for his love for Manfred. Whilst this is heartwarming to others, it does not tick my boxes personally. I wouldve preferred Emmrich consideration of mortality to be a mixture of Rook and Manfred. In saying that though, Emmrich's lichdom path has a significant amount of more romance-esque dialogue. Particularly in the romance and lichdom decision scenes. So it's an odd choice for the developers, or an oversight. I think I am turned off by it a tad because there is minimal fear towards Rook's death. Whereas Lich Emmrich is devastatingly scared. Idk, I'm in two minds.
I really do love the mortal path as I believe it adds more depth to Emmrich, it adds a layer of resilence instead of avoidance. Thinking of the romance scenes, the mortal scene is about love and wanting eachother, whereas the lich path is about desire and acceptance. Both are remarkable. God this is hard.
Emmrich's fear of death does extend to Rook during the argument scene and this is evident throughout the rest of the game and romance. Stating that he is afraid he will die and be a burden to Rook. These romance argument scenes are flipped in retrospect - In the mortal scene, Emmrich fears his own death will hurt Rook, and is terrified of that because he loves her so much. In the lich scene, Emmrich is terrified of Rook's death and the pain it will cause him because he loves her so much. My one grivenance with this scene is that Emmrich can say, "At your age?" in a condescending tone which I think it very out of character. But aso backs up my point that he has a fire to him.
However, the mortal romance has a significant amount of benefit to it. A) Emmrich somewhat learns to deal with his mortality, B) He has Manfred, C) They can spend their post-game days enjoying their life together, instead of the fear that will forever creep on Lich Emmrich.
I implore you to also remeber that it is evident that mortal path Emmrich believes that he is 'too old' to enjoy this type of love. He never thought it would come to fruition. This is evident by the banter, dialogue, and flirt options throughout the game. "its gratifying a fresh faced adventurer noticed me at all" and more. Hence his fear and feelings of burden towards Rook being evident in the argument scene. I'll break this down more later.
Give The Eternal Flame a read.
At the end of the day, Rook was right. Things would be easier to deal with if Manfred were around.
Verdict
I really, really, really love both and Im really torn between them because they are both fantastic and have individual meaning whilst remaining true to the concept that Emmrich and MW Rook are made for eachother. Soulmates. It honestly pains me to say, but at this point in time - I think at the end of the day, as much as I love the Lich romance, and the more content it posesses. Like, love love love the lich romance. Unless there was a canon way in the future for Rook to join him in Lichdom, I prefer the mortal romance path.
This is due to 3 reasons -
A) Whilst the romance content in game is better for his Lich romance and appeals more to my favourute tropes, becoming a lich lord is not something Emmrich is equipped for. He would need a romanced Rook to join him to be 'fine', if that. Inevitably, Lichdom is his way to avert his fears, not face them.
B) Mages can live for an incredibly long time. Especially ones that are entwined with the Fade. Even more so ones that can speak to the dead. I think there is some meaning for that we will uncover in future game adaptions.
C) Emmrich states that he is happier with Rook and Manfred and would not give it up for anything. Whilst both romance scenes are incredibly powerful and romantic, the mortal romance scene is a masterpiece with facial expressions and tension. You can feel the love. Whilst you can feel the love in the Lich romance scene, it is centered around acceptance. See below.
At the end of the day it comes back to the question of what would Emmrich's parents want for him? The question that confirms his romance. They woud want him to be happy, with someone who cares for him. And that is Rook. Emmrich would be happy for the rest of his life. Emmrich has yearned for this love his entire life. Lich Emmrich would be happy, for a time. Then descend into madness, leaving him unhappy and distraught.
Ranking the Veilguard companions Hookup Potential based on the kind of bed situation they have going on in the Lighthouse
(im in early act 2 so have no idea what further romance scenes are actually like, this is just jokin time without any romance spoilers. just pics of how their respective rooms in the lighthouse look and some basic characterization we know about them)
Taash: 8/10
In another game or the real world I would only rate this a 5 because she has no pillows or addition blankets. however she does have a real bedframe AND it's big enough for 2 which means she is doing better than 90% of the rest of the Veilguard so this score gets boosted. And while there's not many blankets, there are plenty of braziers around the room to keep you warm, and Taash is probably her own miniature furnace to cuddle up to. Crucially, she also has a whole wheel of cheese next to the bed, which means you don't even have to leave the covers to get a snack after.
Lucanis: 1/10
Oh no. I'm not even going to comment on the pantry angle because everyone else asks him about that to begin with, so this is just about the bed. Unfortunately the bed is a cot made of uneven wooden planks with some blankets on top of it, and is only wide enough for 1. This is because Lucanis hates sleeping and doesn't want to do it, so the less tempting his bed is, the better for him. Unfortunately this means sleepover potential is dreadful and you will have to find alternate solutions. He does at least have another blanket to go over him and one that's presumably being used as a pillow, so, he gets a 1 instead of a 0, but I am still planning on gifting him coupons for a back massage for Satinalia.
Bellara: 4/10
This setup is perfectly fine for sleeping. It's the lighthouse standard little bed couch thing, has a mattress/cushion, is elevated off the floor, has a pillow, and she's got her blankets folded below. Perfectly serviceable for getting a good night's rest which we know Bellara is not because she forgot to sleep again. However, it's very much a one person sized setup. You might be able to cuddle for a while but if one of you unconsciously tries to roll over you are going right to the floor. Ouch.
Lace Harding: 5/10
You might be wondring "why is sleeping on the floor rated higher than bellara's" and the answer is because this means you are not rolling off the bed onto the floor. it's not going to be comfy but we are not ranking comfort here we're ranking sleepover potential. Harding has managed to make this space look homey and the canopy gives the illusion of being in a tent or canopy bed to help with that illusion. There are rugs down on the floor plus the blankets and pillows--we know Harding is used to sleeping on the ground due to her career as a scout, and I'm sure she can scrounge up more blankets to make the cushioning big enough for the both of you. Your back WILL hurt in the morning but you'll get to have a fun night first.
Neve: 3/10
Girl I know you can do better than this. Which means you're not trying to on purpose, so, live your life I guess. I will say this cot IS bounds nicer than Lucanis's--you can see its a stretched canvas or hide on a frame rather than wooden planks, so it will have a little more give. However they are not THAT much comfier which I know having slept on this modern equivalent many times. Neve also apparently has 0 pillows or blankets so you're out of luck there, as well as the problem of it only being wide enough for 1 again. This woman has too many other things going on to think about romance so your Rook is going to be the one improvising on that matter I think.
Davrin: 10/10
Now here is a man who has his life together. Double or queen size mattress, rustic bed frame he probably lovingly carved and assembled himself by hand, and not only are there sheets AND blankets AND pillows, they are are full on matching set and this knight in shining armor dutifully makes the bed every morning. There's also enough pillows for two! While the remains of a giant corpse is hanging above you all night, the spacing of the ribs still gives you lots of room above to manouver, so just don't worry about that. As a bonus you'll probably even have a baby griffon come to cuddle in the night which is such a cute thought we're going to ignore how much worse getting stepped on by a griffon foot would be than even the biggest fattest housecat trying to stand on your stomach at 4:30am. My one criticism of the setup here is that due to the bed's positioning if the person on the inside needs to get up in the night they'll have to awkwardly crawl over the person on the outside, however everyone else's bed situation is so dismal I'm not even going to subtract a point for that. Great work Davrin.
Emmrich: ???/10
Where... does this man sleep. Peepaw I KNOW you can't be sitting in that armchair all night you need your beauty rest!!! There are 0 beds or cots or floor blankets in this man's room. HOW am I supposed to break his pelvis if he has nowhere for us to lie down??? We can't risk that old man's spine on the cobblestone.
Wait... unless. No, surly not. I mean--jk. Unless...? 😳😳😳

May I ask the device and brushes you're using?
Of course!
I work on my simple little Lenovo laptop that I have montior attached to. The monitor is an EIZO coloredge! They're quite pricey (I got mine at a big discount like four years ago), but they're perfect for artists and designers cos their color accuracy is amazing.
Besides that I draw on a Huion Inspiroy H640P! I also have a TourBox that I use for shortcuts like zooming and brush size.
And I work in Clip Studio Paint! I edit in Photoshop, but I'll be switiching to Affinity Photo once I've garduated cos I don't want to give Adobe a single cent lol
I use a ton of different brushes and I can't remeber where I got a lot of them. But my main brush is the SU-Cream Brush! I also loveeee working with Devin Elle Kurtz brush sets! Especially the foliage and fur ones!
Hope this helps! Again, if there's anything else you'd like to know my inbox is always open :)
RGG: Majima and Toxic Masculinity
It's really not like the writers themselves try desperately hard to force the audience to see Majima Goro as a totally heterosexual and completely straight acting man. However, some circles of the audience haven't gotten the memo and will harshly defend the honor of a man who's not real. As much as I've easily come across those that are accepting and fans that are queer themselves, I've also crossed paths with loud bi/homophobes who try to attack or pester those that don't see him the same way they do. In truth, I've never seen such a large concentration of people who are starkly against the notion that a fictional character could be bisexual or gay. (With a concerning amount of people who seem to outright refuse to believe bisexuality is even a viable orientation. He must be one or the other). And as I stated at the beginning, the writers aren't giving him a new girl every game. He's had less romantic interests of the opposite sex than Kiryu- a very un-horny man who's had at least four(or five) if you want to include his place in spinoff games Kenzan and Ishin.
It's nothing new to any fandom (and it's nothing new for me to bring it up), but it can still be upsetting and frustrating to watch bigoted people parade around a specific character in a series you enjoy. All while claiming they know them better than anyone else. I go through this with Sora from Kingdom Hearts who's another character that isn't exactly the poster child for traditional masculinity, and other characters of that specific variety.
Majima has only had two female love interests across the series so far, and we only see him interact with one of them while we're left up to the word of other characters outside his POV for the second interest. While he clearly cared a lot for Makoto, the Majima Saga of Kiwami 2 reveals she's started a family and will soon be living in another country. She's got her own life; a much better and happier one. Yet, she's still used by some as a prop for the sake of Majima being viewed as hetero, and some still want him to be hung up on a woman he loved over two decades ago. I can't deny that it starts to feel desperate and creepy. Him meeting her again just gave him a chance to see how well she's doing for herself and move on from that. I also can't deny it's frustrating to watch people treat Makoto in a way that completely denies her her own character in order to do what they think will make Majima happy.
As depicted by Goromi, and his pink dump trucks that debuted in Y3, Majima must be a fan of the flashiest shades of pink. Having a drag persona alone is something I think would turn certain fans away from him. It does to some small degree. Spinoffs like Dead Souls feature Majima being even more openly queer or disinterested in women than he is for the most part in the main games. While not canon, he's still depicted as being really into Daigo crossdressing and asking him if he's "ever thought of switchin sides." He gets genuinely disgruntled over not being able to kiss him, too. In Kenzan, he doesn't gain any feelings toward a woman he's lived with for a while, choosing to instead view her as a sister. (His treatment of the cabaret girls in 0 is similar. No attraction, just slightly younger women he views as if they're his daughters). Kiryu is the one who ends up with her for a year. This isn't even scratching the surface of multiple actions from Majima and things he's said during the main games. Viewing Majima as queer is nothing invalid, but at the same time, no one should be treated as if they have to pull out a novel to defend themselves from attackers.
The homophobia rears its ugly head in a format that I haven't seen jumped on a lot for other characters. "Majima isn't gay or bi. He's just crazy." It's the most absurd thing I've seen someone say on this topic to be honest about it. Shrugging away the perception of him not being straight by claiming any non-heteronormative behavior is the product of him just being a zany guy who seeks to strike fear and intimidate other men? Is he only stable minded when it involves women? That's sadly not all this mindset involves. There tends to be a push from those who aren't comfortable with their own orientations to not apply labels to characters. Claiming that queer people attaching queer labels to characters is wrong, but it's totally okay to call these same characters straight is hypocritical. Heterosexuality is also a label. Ironically, those with their own discomforts tend to praise and refer to Majima as a man who's just really comfortable with himself. Nothing more, nothing less.
All in all, people should be allowed to see this fictional character how they want. I have my grievances and disagreements with some fans, but the important thing is that I never go out of my way to start fights. Or start a random argument as if someone was waiting with baited breath to know my unasked for opinion.
