Final night in London. Oh, how I miss it...
Blog Entry #8
I miss London with all my heart. My final full day in London was truly a bittersweet day, the good news was that my friends arrived from Paris that final day so we could all spend it together one last time. Earlier I had gone to Harrods with my friend Brittany, everything was so expensive… the only thing I bought from there was a bag of Belgium chocolates. Britt and I returned to the Columbia because the first part of the Paris group had arrived, it was good to be back in our home away from home. I went to go pick up the second half of the Paris group at St. Pancras station. It was funny because as I eagerly awaited my friends there was a man playing a tune on the piano… it felt like a scene from the movie, you had to be there. Once all the group was reunited (and oh did it feel good) we all went to Tuk-Tuk one last time. The highlight of Tuk-Tuk was this group of drunken gentlemen staggered in and one of the guys puked on the table. After Tuk-Tuk half the group and I took the tube to Westminster to just take in London one last time, Big Ben looked especially bright that night. Now that I’m back home I feel strange and sad. It’s hard to know everyday I’m waking up in the Valley rather than London. This experience has completely woken me up, I need to get back to London.
London Panoramics
Uk based photographer Julian Calverley recently spent 3 long days shooting panoramic back plates in London. Each final piece consists of 3 stitched 80 mpxl files, so the resulting images reveal a truly stunning level of detail.
For anyone visiting London: the essential pilgrimage stops
Oh, oh, oh it's magic...
Goodbye...
Yesterday was one of the most memorable days in my life. How I wish to stay in London for the rest of my days (with my dogs of course). After our class finished Jeka, Brittany, and Itook the tube to Westminster for lunch at Westminster Abbey. We bought or lunch at a Tesco Express and took our seats under Westminster Abbey's immense shadow. It was a wonderful lunch, the sun was out, the sky was blue and I was high on my life... it was at that moment that it hit that I was in London. After our appetites were satisfied we took the tube back home and took a double decker bus towards Hyde Park Corner some paddle boating. The Serpentine is such a glorious lake, if I were to live in London I'd go boating on it every weekend. My friends and I saw ducks, swans, and even got hit on by a bunch of blokes on a boat, how quaint! After the boat ride my friends and I say down beneath a tree and talked for hours and hours about life in London. Back at the hotel I had vowed to take a shot of tequila from my Sherlock Holmes cup, so down we went to the hotel bar. Most of my classmates were down stairs drinking to theirm last day in the Old Smoke... monkey see, monkey do, I started drinking too. All I remember from that splendid night was taking the shots of tequila and chugging a Smirnoff... that's all I've got to say about that.
Shopping in London. Sounds like a dream every girl in the world would like to do... I beg to differ. My friend Brittany and I decided to go shopping at Oxford Circus, expecting to experience what you see in all those chic flick movies. Boy was I wrong. Britt and I visited a total of four stores (Topshop, Gap, H&M, and a tacky souvenir shop) and were ultimately disappointed. The only positive thing I have to say about this misadventure is that I finally bought myself a cute pair of slacks from H&M. After the shopping fiasco or next stop was the Imperial War Museum. IWM is absolutely enormous and actually had ac. I was most excited because my brother had specifically asked for me to go to the museum for him. I felt a twinge of sadness becausr I know my brother and father would go crazy for the IWM, hopefully I can take them there one day. The most memorable exhibition for me was the Holocaust exhibition, to this day I cannot fathom the level of inhumanity the Nazis had towards the Jewish people. I bought a few trinkets for my family: a shirt for my dad, a necklace for my mother, and a model airplane for my brother. I love history.
Yesterday was an exciting day due to the fact that I, alongside thirteen of my classmates, are going to the Tower of London. Class started af few hours earlier to make the trip possible. 'Mrs. Dalloway' was the focus for the day, an extremely tedious novel in my opinion. I don't know if my ignorance kept me from understanding the novel, but dam it was a hard read. The only character that stuck with me was Septimus, it makes me sad that such an empathetic human being would end his life just like that. He also saddened because his life is completely miserable; he has a wife who doesn't love him and his best friend was killed. I believe if he had someone to talk to he'd be alive and well by the end of the novel. People from the nineteenth century are complete beasts, it doesn't take much to listen to someone. After class the Tower group left and it was such a hassle to get everyone together, I prefer to travel alone in all honesty. The Tower was amazing, and I learned Henry VIII was definitely compensating for something. My favorite part of the tower were the Ravens, they have personalities of their own.

Regents Park is second in beauty to Hyde Park, what an enviable position. The first feature that catches your eye are the vivid flowers, I've never seen flowers so beautiful in my life (I hope to start my own garden once I return to the Valley). The day was participate sunny so it was easy to notice all the delicate features that belong only to flowers. On class we discussed 'A Vindication on the Rights of Women,' an absolutely brilliant novel if I do day so myself. Everyone on class had an amazing insight into the meaning of this essay, I felt mine was dull compared to all the other interpretations. One point that really caught my attention was when the whole class scrutinized the only dudein the class. Should men have any say when it comes to female topics such add the ones Wollstonecraft brought up on her essay? I am still mulling over that question in my head, I'll get back to you on that one. The next stop was the Sherlock Holmes museum, even though I had already been inside the museum I couldn't help but feel nostalgia when seeing the museum sign. Oh London, I don't wish to leave you.
Still can't believe I saw Martin Freeman perform Richard III...

Yesterday was a semi dull day, saved only by the fact that I went to go watch Les Miserables. The class went to Tate Britain, one of the dullest experiences of my life in all honesty. I can appreciate art, but damn it sure it's boring to just stare at over and over again. It was just about time to leave to the Queen's Theatre, the theatre in which Les Miserables was being shown, when my friends and I bumped into a lost English girl. Her name escapes me but she was looking for the Pimlico station, just like us. We all chatted for a good while, she said she was not from London, she was here for two job interviews. She got a degree in accounting and was looking forward to moving to London. We finally found Pimlico Station after about twenty minutes of walking and pasted ways. It was early for the theatre so my friends and I went to Pizza Hut, it was the only restaurant in our perimeter so we had no choice. The pizza from the Pizza Hut in the UK tasted very different from the American pizza, they had more sauce on their pizza and less cheese. After we ate it was time for Les Miserables, time to have fun. I felt like a countess in the theatre (of course I was in the nosebleed section, but my imagination gets the best of me). To make things short the musical was phenomenal, everything from the acting to the music was amazing. Something I will not forget soon.
Cloudy London is the London I would like to get acquainted with, the weather is neither too cool nor too warm. In the morning today my friend Brittany I rode the tube to the famous baker street, there were sherlock holmes references everywhere. I am a huge Sherlock Holmes fan thanks to the BBC' s version of the famous detective. I was inspired to read the books and love them, this museum was gong to be brilliant. The very first thingI noticed about 221 B was the smell, it smelled of old wood. This very small is what I imagined 221 B to smell like when I read the original story, a truly magical experience for any bookworm. My second favorite part from the Sherlock Holmes experience was the gift shop. they had everything a Sherlock fan would need , mini violin cases, books, DVD's; so many things, so little money. After the Sherlock Holmes experience I went to Saint Paul's Cathedral, what a magnificent building. Even though the wasn't enough time to go inside the cathedral I still look forward to visiting it one of these days.
Stuff from yesterday...
