Chuck Klosterman, But What If Weāre Wrong?
I really, really loved this.Ā Itās a great thought and conversation starter, and it uses age-old ideas to attempt to explain how we both consume and remember our culture today.Ā Most importantly, it makes philosophy accessible and challenges the current wide-spread misconception that philosophy is a discipline reserved for stuffy intellectuals within the ivory tower of academia or bourgeois salons.Ā
It's funny how there's people in my classes that I knew, but didn't really talk to throughout the school year. But now that it's almost the end of the school year I start talking to them...I've made some really cool and funny friends.
To Kill a Mockingbird
Guys...yes. I'm loving it, but I'm afraid I'm on chapter 23 and it's ending soon. Sad. I want to read, but if I don't continue to read, it'll never end,,,right?š Jkjk. But not really. I have to read it either way, it's for my English class. Trying to get those good grades, yah know?
Was really feelin' this filteršššø
March 25, 2017 ā¢|ā¢|ā¢|ā¢|ā¢|ā¢|ā¢|ā¢|ā¢|ā¢|ā¢|ā¢|⢠Iām currently reading āTo Kill A Mockingbirdā By Harper Lee for my English class. Iām loving it, I love Scout! She likes to read, like girl yesā¦welcome.
Has anyone read it? Message me and we can talk about the book. I think Iām going to make an individual post for the book some other time. Currently on chapter 5, I canāt 'move fastā in my reading because itās for class, so obviously have to do some work for each chapter:/ ________________________________________
I also just started reading 'Belong to Meā By Marisa de los Santos. Canāt wait, already have a character that I detest. She making my baby girl feel bad about her situation (no kids).

then herman melvilleās letters to nathaniel hawthorne are the ones for you
i just got to november 1851 and i am in physical pain. will post some of the choicest moments tomorrow, once my soul has recovered
ok context: Melville & Hawthorne exchange letters back and forth for about 2 years (1851-52). weāve got some of the ones M sent to H, but the ones H sent in return are gone. H was a fairly retiring dude, and as anyone who has ever read any Melville knows, Melville is⦠the opposite of that. Melville is the definition of Extra. for a while, they lived only 6 miles apart. even when Hawthorne moved, their friendship lasted a number of years, but they fell out of touch about 7 years before he died. you can read them onlineĀ here, and iāve pulled some of my favorite bits out below.
p.s. Melville addresses him asĀ āMy Dear Hawthorneā in almost every one.
29 january 1851, melville tries to convince hawthorne to bring the whole family to stay overnight (hawthorneās wife sophia has been resistant)
āFear not that you will cause the slightest trouble to us⦠I keep the wordĀ āWelcomeā all the time in my mouth, so as to be ready on the instant when you cross the threshold.ā
āHark ā There is some excellent Montado Sherry awaiting you & some most potent Port. We will have mulled wine with wisdom, and buttered toast with story-telling & crack jokes & bottles from morning till night.āĀ
āCome ā no nonsence. If you dont - I will send Constables after you.ā
22 july 1851
āThis is not a letter, or even a note ā but only a passing word said to you over your garden gate. I thank you for your easy-flowing long letter (received yesterday) which flowed through me, and refreshed all my meadowsā¦ā
17 november 1851 (the Big One⦠Hawthorne writes him a letter of praise abt Moby Dick)
(upon reading the letter):Ā āI felt pantheistic then - your heart beat in my ribs and mine in yours, and both in Godās.ā
āWhence come you, Hawthorne? By what right do you drink from my flagon of life? And when I put it to my lips ā lo, they are yours and not mine. I feel that the Godhead is broken up like the bread at the Supper, and that we are the pieces.ā Ā GET IT TOGETHER HERMAN
āDonāt write a word about the book. That would be robbing me of my miserly delight. I am heartily sorry I ever wrote anything about you ā it was paltry. Lord, when shall we be done growing? As long as we have anything more to do, we have done nothing.ā (those last 2 sentences are one of my favorite melville quotes ever)
āAh! itās a long stage, and no inn in sight, and night coming, and the body cold. But with you for a passenger, I am content and can be happy. I shall leave the world, I feel, with more satisfaction for having come to know you.ā
āP.S. I canāt stop yet. If the world was entirely made up of Magians, Iāll tell you what I should do. I should have a paper-mill established at one end of the house, and so have an endless riband of foolscap rolling in upon my desk; and upon that endless riband I should write a thousand ā a million ā billion thoughts, all under the form of a letter to you. The divine magnet is on you, and my magnet responds. Which is the biggest? A foolish question ā they are One.ā
fromĀ āhawthorne and his mosses,ā an 1850 review in which melville literally goes on anon and pretends heās a farmer from virginia and has never met hawthorne before
āThe soft ravishments of the man spun me round in a web of dreams, and when the book was closed, when the spell was over, this wizard ādismissed me with but misty reminiscences, as if I had been dreaming of him.āā
Ā āI already feel that this Hawthorne has dropped germinous seeds into my soul. He expands and deepens down, the more I contemplate him; and further, further, shoots his strong New-England Ā roots into the hot soil of my Southern soulā Ā L M F A O

I HATE CONFRONTATION .
I hate hate hate confrontation. But how can you be outspoken about your beliefs and feelings, when you can't speak the words you feel? How can you express your feelings? I get so emotional when I try to express what I feel. But I have sooo many thoughts and feelings. Especially this one specific topic. I quite honestly just cried for a few minutes.
2-16-17 I started reading ' The True Story of Hansel and Gretel'
The Weird Sister ~finished~
2-16-17 I finished 'The weird Sisters' yesterday in the morning. (The time doesn't matter, so I don't know why I felt the need to say "in the morning"...) I really liked it. Does someone want me to write more about the book? Lol okay bye
2/13/17 Bought these books like maybe a month agoā¦(?) as well as another book. I canāt find the other book though, oops.
I recently moved, so I still havenāt had a chance of organizing my stuff. Iāll probably take some books out tomorrow, to organize them, and Iāll look for that book.
I started reading āThe Weird Sistersā by Eleanor Brown.^^ So far, Iām loving it. It has references to Shakespeare and some actual line/quotes from Shakespeare as well. Although, I personally never know what they mean. Iāve never read Shakespeare, sorry!
But someone who likes Shakespeare and understands it, would probably(maybe?) also enjoy this book.
Iām currently on page 230. Iām loving it.
P.s. The book that I said I wasn't enjoying isn't this one. It's the book I currently can't find, which goes to show you how much I was reading it.
Oh no, not enjoying the bookš
So I started reading this book...and let me tell you, I was excited when I bought it. But like, now, not so much. I haven't gotten that far into the book, but...yikes. It's about a horse.I'm currently moving so I don't have the book right here, and I don't want to get the title and author wrong. So I'll just wait. But I feel like it's just been repeating the same things multiple times. I'm going to continue reading, hopefully it actually gets better. šššš¤
hi!
Lol does anyone even see these posts? :?Ā send me asks, Iād love to talk to anyone who actually reads my posts :) But guys!! I'm moving!! I doubt anyone really cares about my posts and even less about my ārantsā, but honestly I love tumblr...I can post rant-y things and it shouldnāt really bother anyone...so yeah. I'm excited though, Iāve never moved houses before. I had to clean and throw away a lot of trash...Iāll probably also have to throw away a few more things that are trash, but I thought were actually useful. Most of my belongs were either books, or school supplies (i.e. pencils, markers, things for school projects..)...
My brother bought himself a laptop, so now I have my own one! yay. I also play The Sims 4 and I might buy some packs sometime this week. I was supposed to go last week to buy them, but my parents have been busy getting everything ready at the new house. Iāve been having a good month, so far. How about you?
P.s. Except for the simple fact that Iām supposed to write a short story :0 Iām really panicking, I don't know how to make my story exciting and interesting. I havenāt finished and I have the rough draft due on Monday (this Monday)...granted, itās only the rough draft, but still. Iāve never written a short story! Iāve only ever written essays. I then have to type it on Monday or Tuesday and I'm guessing itās due on Wednesday....?
Maybe itās just me that canāt write a short story, but I donāt think thatās enough time. uhhh sorry, thatās like the thing thatās currently stressing me out.:/
Marley & Me
I finished reading "Marley & Me" like 1 or 2 days ago. I liked the book, but I didn't love it. I once (like 2 years ago) started to read this book for school, but I never finished it. I checked it out of the school library twice, but didn't like it enough to finish reading it. I found a paperback version at 'Book Off' for like $5 so I was like...'why not?' I liked it...somewhat...but wouldn't actually read it again. This is obviously MY OPINION.
Marley & Me (Meant to post this the other day...guess I forgot) I'll post a front cover picture tomorrow !!
