i really don't understand why you ship superman and batman they wouldn't work
I ship them bc genuinely them together wouldn’t be the “perfect” pairing. It wouldn’t be sunshine and rainbows all the time. I think I idolize their relationship so much because of it, bruce doesn’t just have walls built up, he’s literally a human defense mechanism, he’s got barbed wire around his heart and yes clark had two loving parents and they did the best they could but he still went his entire life thinking “there’s something wrong with me” and hid his powers so he wouldn’t be labeled as different, he genuinely thinks he’s less than everyone because of his ‘difference.’ (not to mention he lost his fuckin planet)Bruce is dark. Whereas Clark is light. They contrast and I feel like they can bring the best out of each other. There’s soo many instances where Bruce is in his worst condition literally on the brink of death and all he cares about is getting Clark out safe and sound. Bruce genuinely cares about Clark in a way I don’t think anyone else does.. because the thing is it didn’t start out a love story and that’s why I love it. It started off with them being against each other, Bruce didn’t trust Clark bc “he’s a god and god can destroy worlds” And Clark didn’t like the way Batman handled business. But their relationship grew sooo fucking much it literally hurts. Bruce went from despising Clark to telling him things such as: Why do I keep a giant penny in the cave? or old costumes, or various models of the batmobile? Orphans are collectors. Clark, losing so much.. makes it that much harder to give things up.”
Not even just that but there was a time where Clark was infected with a rare version of kryptonite and was acting drunk and Bruce had to find the other half of it to knock the sense back into Clark when he found it he was entranced and suddenly his parents were alive again. He was in complete bliss but after a few moments he realized he needed to get back to Clark. And that wasn’t the first time it’s happened either, there’s been multiple occasions and IT FUCKS ME UP DAILY. Because the one thing Bruce has ever wanted? Was a normal life. Nothing extravagant. But he loves and values Clark so much that he puts his own needs behind Clarks.
Not just that but then there’s the time that they went across the universe collecting all the kryptonite to lock it away and Clark genuinely thinks they’re doing this for mankinds benefit bc of radiation and that’s why Bruce loves clark so much because Clark puts mankind before himself, always. And Bruce says to himself, “that’s why I’m doing this, bc clark genuinely thinks this is about more than just him.” LIKE MY FUCKIN HEART.
The thing is Clark and Bruce follow each other into the dark no matter what. They don’t rationalize, they don’t care about their own wellbeing when it comes to the other one, they just go. They’d both go through hell and back for the other with a fucking smile. Are they the perfect pairing? Fuck no. But do they still work? Hell yes. Clark has a healing aura about him to the point where coldhearted!Bruce can feel it. Clark’s home to Bruce and I can’t stress it enough.
