30/F/texas/ Proud Mexican american. simply just another fangirl who wants to connect to other fans. huge mega know-it-all when it comes to dc comics. child of asteria in the pjo verse. ravenclaw in the hpverse.
Do you guys see this? Do you know what this means? This means a painful headcanon is coming.
Look in the top panel and locate one Catherine Todd. Do you see what I see? That’s right. She’s pregnant, and heavily so. Now look in the bottom panel when Jason finds her body. No baby bump in sight.
So what happened to this baby? It’s clearly a late stage pregnancy, too late for an abortion, which means that she had to have given birth to that child one way or another, and the comics mention nothing about Jason having a sibling.
That leaves only three options really.
The child was stillborn or born fatally ill, most likely because of drug abuse if the bottom panel is anything to go by.
Catherine did the unmentionable.
Jason or his mother gave up the baby because they were unable to take care of it.
I prefer the third option personally, just because it means Jason would have some blood family running around somewhere, and I like the thought of big brother Jason keeping an eye on his little brother or sister, making sure they’re safe and taken care of even when he’s living on the streets, even when he’s Robin, and especially when he’s Red Hood and needs to feel like he’s not completely alone in the world.
This plot hole will never not bug the hell out of me.
I noticed that panel immediately when I picked the issue up the day it came out and it’s been a source of agitation ever since lol…
I really really want to know the explanation there.
Yet at the same time I don’t, because DC is an ass, and they’d do something incredibly cruel with that information.
For example:
Since Joker was apparently plotting everything for months, and after Catherine ‘died’ she was really alive and the Joker already had his claws in her, what stopped him from taking the baby? Because if she died but was really alive, and the Joker had his father put away and killed in prison, then Joker probably was already acquainted with her while she was pregnant in that panel above. And he doesn’t exactly do things half assed. So who the hell knows what happened to that child- and furthermore, if Joker was involved by that point, the kid might have actually been his and not Willis’. This is why I hate DC giving us such fractured spotty back-stories that no one seems to even embellish on.
We know very litter about Jason, Dick, or Tim prior to them ending up with Bruce in the New 52. Not that pre-reboot was too much better there but we at least had more to go off of.
Personally, I’d have loved for Harper and Cullen to be Jason’s siblings, like one popular headcanon the above post sparked, but with their ages that didn’t work. I’m well behind with reading the comics so I’m not sure, but did the writers ever go back and tell us who Harper and Cullen’s mother was? Another plot hole that bugged me.
I think those fancomics where Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes is transgender are cute and fun but I also think it's a deep misunderstanding of Calvin's character to think he would transition into a heterosexual normie who goes to her high school reunion. That girl would have neopronouns and fang implants
I know it's like 2 weeks too late to change it but I'm so mad I didn't realize that the band would obviously be called "Get Rid Of Slimy GirlS". I walk the road of shame
Dick: do you know what I hate? People acting as if JASON was an angry Robin-
Jason: can you not?
Dick: shut up! I'd say I was angry as Robin, Damian for a bit, Tim a little bit but JASON! JASON?
Jason: I have a rep-
Dick: HE WAS ADORABLE! He said 'Robin gives me magic', he had his little front curls, he used to wrap himself up in his cape so he was just a yellow triangle with legs, he looked like a little duckling!
Jason: *launching himself at Dick* SHUT UP!!!!
Dick: *prying Jason's hands away from his face* HE-
Jason: IGNORE HIM! He's a liar.
Donna: Jason you worked with us as Robin to fight Brother Blood. We know how you were and you were adorable.
Your post about Jason being an introvert was a wonderful occasion for me to learn more about him, thanks for that. I know that he's worked with the Titans when he was still Robin, but I hadn't read those adventures so I wanted to know how the fact that he's an introvert plays with his way of interacting and working with a team? I hope that my question is clear enough ha.
Hey there! Glad you liked my post, and you’re absolutely right, Jason did have a short stint with the Teen Titans, more specifically: (roughly) New Teen Titans Vol. 2 #20-31.
Unfortunately, Jason’s time with the Titans was brief, and he wasn’t the focus for most of it. The first half of his adventure was spent with everyone treating him like he was Dick instead of him being a different person entirely, and the second half, once he points out that he’s not Dick Grayson, he’s mostly treated like a little kid.
(New Teen Titans vol.2 #20)
“But I just realized— you’re not talking to me, Jason Todd, who’s now wearing the Robin costume. You look at me but you think Dick Grayson, age twenty… the original Robin.”
I actually feel for Jason a lot in this arc. Where Dick Garyson had to struggle to get out from under the shadow of the Batman, Jason Todd has to get out from under the shadows of the Batman and Dick Grayson.
As for Jason’s introversion playing into his teamwork, yeah, I think we can see it. Jason, while excited about being a part of the Titans, wasn’t excited about the teamwork aspect specifically. He was excited about working with heroes that he looked up to, and about being part of something where he was on equal footing with the people he was working with.
“…Batman never asks me anything. I mean, he just gives orders. He says ‘Jump,’ and I’m supposed to ask, ‘How high?’” -New Teen Titans vol.2 #20
We see this later on too, once the team starts to treat him like more of a liability.
(New Teen Titans vol.2 #26)
Jason is actually a really autonomous lad, and couple that with the introversion that has made him a lone wolf most of his life, it’s understandable that he was drawn to the idea of being able to make his own decisions. Though once it came down to it he realized that he didn’t know how to lead a team.
And, in the end, Jason was happy to head back to Batman’s side, and didn’t keep in touch with the people he met while on the Titans. Though there is one thing that Jason experienced while with the Titans that I think is really important— Hawk.
During Jason’s adventures with the Titans, Hawk displayed a sense of morality that would later be adopted by Jason, in his return as Red Hood.
(New Teen Titans vol.2 #20)
(New Teen Titans vol.2 #21)
Jason looked up to Hawk, despite his horror at the man’s willingness to kill their enemy for the ‘greater good’. And after spending all of his time with the morally-rigid Batman, I have no doubt that Hawk’s code of ethics came as a shock to young Jason.
However, I also think that Jason remembers Hawk and the things he said, and I think to some extent Hawk was the first person to plant the idea that “sometimes bad people have to die” in Jason’s head. After all, a little while after this, Jason kills Felipe Garzonas, a rapist and murderer, because he knows it’s the only way to ensure the man stays off the streets.
(Batman #424)
So despite there not being a whole lot to talk about when it comes to Jason’s time with the Titans, I still find it a good arc to look to when discussing his character.
Or you use a plastic/silicon spatula?? Or a silicon whisk?? go to literally any dollar store they have shitty plastic/silicon kitchen utensils you can scramble eggs with without scratching up your pans
Steph spent over a decade as a supporting character, which means until she finally got her Batgirl run, her appearances are scattered across various bat-books, and hard to track (let alone order) if you don’t know where to start. Which is what I’m here for!
This will run through a basic explanation of Steph’s entire timeline up to Flashpoint, including every appearance in chronological order. (Well, minus some pointless cameos where she appears for a single panel/line.) If you’re just reading for Steph, there are many issues listed where you could just skim through the non-Steph portions.
For the very abbreviated version:
Steph first appears in Detective Comics vol 1 #647-649 as the Spoiler, working against her dad.
She returns and becomes a regular supporting character in Robin vol 2 (1993), which includes getting together with Tim, and going through a teen pregnancy.
Steph starts to appear more across other Batfamily books, particularly Batgirl vol 1 (2000) (while still being a regular in Robin).
For a short time, she is welcomed into the inner circle and trained directly by Batman, before being rejected again.
After Tim is forced to quit, Steph becomes Robin briefly.
Shortly after being fired, she is killed.
Steph returns with a very brief explanation, and floats around as a Robin supporting character again.
Finally, she becomes Batgirl and gets her own run in Batgirl vol 3 (2009), which lasts until the reboot.
Full timeline and issue listings below the cut! I’ve tried to make it possible to just grab the listed issues, ignore any (lower-case s) spoilers, and get a fresh read for yourself OR to read in full for a thorough timeline.

A series of Cabin Seven oneshots. This time: There's a spy in camp.
Finally my muses have decided to write something again! This chapter draws a little from mine and @stereden's fic Lie to Me, although reading that fic isn't necessary to understand this one (but I will still encourage people to go listen to Stereden's recording of it!). At some point these ficlets will stop being Michael-centric but for now that's clearly not happening.
Reminder that there’s now a discord server for all my fics, including this one! If you wanna chat with me or with other readers about stuff I write (or just be social in general), hop on over and say hi!

The realisations creep up on Michael slowly, as he leaves the meeting.
The revelation of a spy horrifies him while making too much fucking sense, because Beckendorf is dead, because Kronos’ army knew he and Percy were coming and made the whole thing a fucking trap that Beckendorf sprung to make sure they didn’t lose Percy, because losing Percy meant losing the whole war and they all knew that.
Of course there was a fucking spy in their camp, someone that Michael couldn’t trust because they were feeding information to Kronos and getting them – not just them, but certain, lynchpin, demigods – killed off one by one. Of course there was, because why wouldn’t there be? Enough demigods were traitors that why wouldn’t there be more pretending that they weren’t, hiding in plain sight and causing the most damage?
Michael’s angry about it, can feel his temper churning under his skin and making small bids for freedom that he can’t quite stop, has never been able to stop by himself and now Lee’s not here to help him stop it, diffuse it in a way that doesn’t have consequences.
Lee’s not here because he’s dead and the gaping hole torn through his heart hasn’t even started to heal yet, even though Michael has to pretend it has, that the grief isn’t still raw and playing havoc with his self-control, because he’s in charge, now, and that means younger siblings that need someone strong to hold them together are looking to him.
Lee’s not here because he’s dead and this time the thought sparks something else, something else that then ignites the inferno of Michael’s ever-simmering rage because how fucking dare Luke.
There’s a spy in the camp, and spies are liars. They say all the right things at all the right times, but they don’t mean a word of it because they believe the wrong fucking things, that the gods are worse than Kronos, that the gods need to fall for demigods to survive. They don’t mean a word of it and that means they’re liars and if Lee was still here, he’d have noticed.
Lee isn’t here, because he’s fucking dead. Because he was killed, in a fucking battle that happened inside the safety of camp, where it was never supposed to reach, and because Lee’s not here to spot liars, Beckendorf is dead. More of them will die, too, because Michael isn’t naïve and this feels like a start, except maybe it’s not because they lost two head counsellors last summer, lost Lee last summer, so maybe this is a continuation.
Lee’s not here to spot liars and Michael knows that very few people knew what Lee could sense, because Lee was always so careful not to let on, but he also knows that one of the people that did know was fucking Luke. Luke, who works for Kronos, who leads the demigod faction of the titan’s fucking army, who is probably the spy’s handler because they’re a fucking demigod, too.
Lee got killed last summer but that’s not right, because Lee was murdered last summer, before the war kicked up a notch and sabotage missions started and got sabotaged. Before the spy started passing information.
Luke needed Lee out of the way so that he could have a fucking spy.
The list of people that Michael hates is a short one. There are many people that annoy him, and more he dislikes. There are even people he can’t fucking stand. But hate is something different, something visceral, and for most of his life it’s been succinctly headed by the bastard his mom married.
Luke had wriggled his way onto the bottom of the list, somewhere between can’t stand and hate, years ago, when Michael had inexplicably woken up in the middle of the night in a way he never does to hear Lee sobbing into his pillow, broken from Luke’s fucking betrayal.
Michael is well aware that Lee would never have told him about his truth-sensing if it wasn’t for that night, when he’d been torn wide open by Luke demonstrating how much of a piece of shit he was.
Now, with the realisation that Luke must have wanted Lee out of the way so he could get on with killing the rest of them off via sabotage and other ways of Hermes fucking nonsense, he’s catapulted himself straight to the top of the fucking list and Michael’s certain he’ll stay there until he dies, at least.
Michael already wasn’t calm, not after arguing with Clarisse again, but the realisations have made his temper worse and he can’t just turn it off, not without Lee’s help. All he can do is channel it, try to minimise the casualties, because he can’t explode on his siblings. He just can’t.
Clarisse isn’t on his hate list, despite what most people think, but she is on his can’t fucking stand list and right now, with her bullshit over the fucking chariot, that’s close enough. His temper has to go somewhere and with its primary target out of fucking reach, wherever Luke’s hiding like the bastard he is – and his spy sneaking around with lies that Michael can’t see through, because he’s not Lee, could never be Lee – Clarisse makes a good enough secondary target.
He knows she can’t be the spy; Clarisse spying on anyone is laughable, she’s not got a subtle bone in her fucking body. But it doesn’t matter, because Michael is pissed and his rage has to go somewhere.
It’s not like she doesn’t fucking deserve it anyway.
Windbreaker is so funny because Sakura has Suo 'my hobby is understanding how people work (and using that however I please)' Hayato and Akihiko 'heart too big for my own body and need to rely on others because my heart took up all the muscle that was supposed to be in my biceps' Nirei and Hajime 'all I do is garden, kick ass and give life advice' Umemiya and Kotoha 'Resident expert in understanding the concept of it takes a village and how people need support to thrive' Tachibana.
But when he's having a crisis he goes to the only senpai who is more emotionally repressed than him. Actual icon. Can't believe that worked. Thank God the Green Tea Coffee metaphor got through.
There was one aspect of Taki's finale which irks me so bad that I need to get it out of my system and hopefully I can get a second opinion on here. There's still a couple of special stories that I haven't read so there's a chance that I've missed some crucial information, please correct me if I have. I'm trying to come up with my own explanations for it but I can’t help but think it was executed poorly for the sake of wrapping things up.
In the 2nd ending set for Taki's Season 5, Yosuke reveals to Kasatsubaki that Taki’s father is sick. Taki is not aware of this.
Then in today’s story: When the MC gets rightfully angry about this last minute revelation at the hospital, Yosuke’s response is “Well me and Dr. Tsubaki tried to tell you, but both of you kept ignoring us!”
Then Taki's father dies before Taki can get a chance to speak to him.
————————————
Regardless of Yosuke’s misjudgement about Ryuta’s condition, my initial thought was that it felt uncharacteristic for Yosuke to withhold this information from Taki.
Since when did Yosuke let being ignored, stop him from sharing news? This is the same man who spent a decade monitoring the MC’s life and had no problem letting Taki know that his ex-girlfriend at the time moved on and got married. Even when Ryuta went missing again, Yosuke managed to track him down.
Yosuke has always inserted himself into other people’s affairs and he’s never shied away from telling people things that they may find difficult to hear. Not to mention, he was the one who was pressuring Taki to reconcile with his father back in Season 3. If he says he does things for a good reason, then what could Yosuke have possibly hoped to achieve out of keeping this a secret?
What was stopping Taki from learning about his father’s illness himself?
I also find it hard to believe that despite the resources and connections available to him, Taki didn’t bother to keep tabs on his father once Yosuke initially located him. Sure, he’s busy running his company and executing his revenge on the person who ruined his life but what was the point of partnering with Mr. Ashiba who’s supposedly well connected in Taiwan if you weren’t going to use him?
“There! I finally managed to finish everything,” MC sighed in relief. “Only one more hour, and then I get to spend the rest of the night with Kotaro!”
Kotaro had been traveling for work recently, and he finally returned home last evening. MC planned a welcome back date for them, and she was now impatiently counting down the remaining minutes of the workday. Absorbed in her own impatient thoughts, MC failed to notice that Kotaro had snuck up behind her, until she felt him poke her in the side.
“Daydreaming again? Hopefully it’s about me,” Kotaro teased his flustered girlfriend.
“It’s rude to sneak up on people Kotaro! And don’t watch me so closely,” MC grumbled.
Kotaro burst into laughter at the sight of MC’s grumpy face and couldn’t resist the opportunity to continue with his teasing of her.
