the frequency in which dazai tries to commit suicide should never be underestimated because , while he does dramatize &. exaggerate the oftentimes eccentric methods themselves as per accordance to his facades , all of his daily routine attempts are still actual attempts . ( * although , he intentionally keeps himself from dying each time . it is not merely a case of bad luck , it’s orchestrated bad luck . he can’t die until he completes his goals ! ) he attempts at-least one time publicly every single day . sometimes more than once , if he really wants to sell the suicide fanatic bit . then he goes home in his dingy detective agency issued dormitory &. attempts privately , too . his public attempts are different than his private attempts because there is nobody to fool when he’s by himself , so they’re less ridiculous .

there’s never any need to ask where dazai is when he’s missing because the answer will almost always be “ off committing suicide somewhere ” . everday , all day , in several different ways . he’s rocking the long term suicide methods ( killing his body slowly through poor lifestyle choices ) , the exaggerated short term ones for the facade ( oil drum ) , the circumstantial suicide methods ( walking into danger knowing / slightly hoping he will be killed ) &. the short term ones done in private that are a little too serious for his detective friends to see .
