fallout challenge: [2/2] dlcs → fallout 4: far harbor
the fog’s been here forever. there are good years when it recedes and the island’s almost normal. then there are times when it spreads all over. and people have to cling to any patch of land free of the fog. for the past… oh, eight years or so, it’s been getting… as bad as it’s ever been. now, far harbor’s one of the only places left that’s safe.

It didn’t take a genius to figure out his TRUE ORIGINS. Barnes may have claimed to be a man of faith, may have claimed to have sworn himself to PROTECTING ATOM’S HOLY FLOCK but that didn’t change the fact that he was still a TRAPPER at heart.
He continued on with his little act, he continued to present himself as the oddly friendly THREAT as he scuffed a boot against the hard earth. His dark eyes zeroed in on the harborman’s hands before they flicked back up to meet his. There was a certain enjoyment he was weening from this encounter, it was the simple things that made his existence BEARABLE as a ZEALOT and this just so happened to be one of them.

"THE FOG FUCKED YOU UP REAL GOOD, didn't it... TRAPPER?" Maybe Old Longfellow was just GETTING OLD, but it had taken him so much longer to piece it all together-- this P.O.S. was a trapper. USING ATOM'S HOLY CRUSADE as an excuse to keep doing whatever EVIL BULLSHIT that he was on PRIOR to joining that shitty fucking CULT OF WEIRDOS. War never changes, but apparently neither did religion. This... This THING was a product of EXACTLY what happened when shit went UNCHECKED. The old man would probably be doing the Children a HUGE FAVOR if he'd gone and killed him right then and there.
But it was not going to be his PROBLEM until the latter MADE IT his problem. Carefully did the old man lower his rifle, he took a chance and yet, was so CONFIDENT in the fact that there was NO WAY IN HELL that this PIECE OF SHIT TRAPPER was faster than him. Still, he kept his finger on the trigger. At that moment it didn't seem like IT was all too INTERESTED in taking chunks outta the old man, but it was better to be SAFE THAN FUCKING SORRY.
"Then why would you JOIN them in the first place? Couldn't you have just kept TRAPPIN' without 'em? Or do they WILLINGLY give you a place to lay yer FUNKY LOOKIN' HEAD down at night? Feed 'ye canned beans and snack cakes t'balance a DIET of what I assume is MOSTLY SWEET MEAT."

He was so used to synths having to live in SECRET, but here was an entire community of synths that didn’t hide it from the other inhabitants of the island. They even had the islanders in their debt. The Railroad would definitely be interested in hearing about them. It also gave him hope for the eventual acceptance of synths in the future.
But in the meantime, he gave a solemn nod at the other’s last statement. Fox was capable of being stubborn — headstrong even, at times. Yet, he could still be very reasonable, and he was wise enough to almost always YIELD to those with more experience and knowledge than he. The solider had learned how to take orders long before he had learned how to be a general. “Alright — I will.” he promised. There was a small pause before he continued. “You should probably know I’m looking for a girl — her name’s Kasumi. She thinks she’s a synth. Whether she is or not, her parents back in the Commonwealth want me to find her. She came here hoping to live with the synths in Acadia. Have you helped a girl get to Acadia recently?” It wasn’t an accusation but merely him wanting to get all the information he could on the case.
Arms fold over a surprisingly broad chest, the old man leaning back in his seat as he really mulled that thought over. It was nearly IMPOSSIBLE to put a name to a face-- he shook his head. "No, I have not. She's outta her god damned mind for even considerin' goin' out there on her own, though." That wasn't to say that the... uh, 'SYNTH' hadn't come passed the Hull on the way to her DESTINY. Not that the old man even understood what a synth was or could even tell the difference between a synth and a human-- not that he cared to either. If they were good people then who the hell cared? "You'll want t'speak to the METAL MAN when we get there, he'll have all the answers, I'm sure."
"I don't guide just ANYONE through the fog. I ain't in the business of leadin' people to their deaths-- got better things to do," A pause on his part, "I'm goin' way the hell AGAINST my better judgement on this one, but I can tell you ain't like them other mainlanders that come to the docks-- real cocky types y'know? Think they can take on the Island on their own." The tone of his voice comes off just a wee bit remorseful, sure, Longfellow was often represented as this cold and particularly bitter old man but he cared. If death could have been avoided he'd have done his damndest to make it so. "It'd do 'ye good to gather the necessities 'fore we head out. Rad-X, stimpaks and the like."
