There was a time not too long ago when everything changed for me. What started with severe issues involving my appendix eventually led doctors to discover something much more serious… colon cancer. Hearing those words hits differently when you’re someone used to being the strong one, the helper, the guy solving everyone else’s problems.

During that time, my business struggled. When you own a small business, especially in the mold remediation and restoration world here on Long Island, there’s no clocking out. If you’re not working, things can slow down fast. Between surgeries, appointments, recovery, stress and uncertainty, there were moments I honestly didn’t know what the future would look like. Mentally, physically and financially it was one of the toughest periods of my life.

But something inside me refused to quit.

I kept showing up the best I could. I leaned on gratitude, faith, good people around me and the understanding that hard times don’t last forever. Slowly but surely, I rebuilt my strength, rebuilt my mindset and pushed my business forward harder than ever before. Today I’m grateful to say not only am I still here, but I’ve continued growing both personally and professionally.

Mold doesn’t need much to grow: • Moisture • Organic material (drywall, paint, dust) • Limited airflow

Within 24–48 hours of consistent moisture exposure, bathroom mold and mildew can begin forming on ceilings, grout lines, caulking, and behind walls. Over time, this can lead to deeper contamination inside wall cavities, particularly if exhaust fans are inadequate or nonexistent.

This is a common issue I see across Suffolk County, Long Island, especially in finished basements where bathrooms were added but ventilation was overlooked.

Dehumidification • Add a high-quality dehumidifier in the basement. • Maintain indoor relative humidity between 40–50%.

Clean and Address Existing Mold
