Practically everyone in the college knew richard, why did he think everyone hated him?
is there still a the secret history fandom or is its glory days over here
too many ppl sleep on partyboi richard my guy was wildddd
not enough people talk about how henry published a translation of anacreon at 18. anacreon the poems about drinking, love, eroticism, and the pleasures of life. WITH COMMENTARY.
not only is it such a well-done way to foretell exactly what his obsessions are about, but like… such an interesting character detail that’s overlooked sometimes when he’s painted as just the ruthless, rigid scholar
edit cause i had a further thought: the fact that he likely worked on this translation while isolated due to illness in his high school years shows SOOO MUCH how he yearns for connection and to enjoy life in its simplicity and actually that’s a little sad???
it’s that time of year again where i reread tsh for the bajillionth time so here is the greek class!!!
i present to you my two different henry faceclaim proposals
my the secret history casting headcanons (warning: very dark academia)
1. julian morrow
2. richard papen
3. francis abernathy
4. henry winter
5. charles macaulay
because, as i'm sure everyone agrees, the middle name 'Marchbanks' is rather strange (even as a middle), i've come up with a more or less plausible theory as to why Henry might've been given that name.
i'm thinking it could be his mother's maiden name. this isn't a seldom occurrence — when women solely take on their husband's name after marriage, sometimes they give their first child their maiden name as a middle name.
i've researched 'Marchbanks', and it's predominantly a surname, which only supports this notion. plus, it sounds less comical — don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful name (and certainly unique), but i've seen quite a bit of confusion surrounding it, and it made me think.
Does anyone else remember how throughout a good part of The Secret History Richard was probably wearing a tie that had little pictures of men hunting deer on it, and every now and again he found it important to note this even though it had nothing to do with anything go on?
Faces in coffee.
wait are we coming back to life again yay 🧛
Unfortunately, yes
fortunately*
the feminine urge to stay gone. be unseen, be unavailable, be unheard of. disappear.
often i feel like a deer to be hunted craving gentle hands and vulnerability but i flee from the slightest sounds i yearn for the day that i can step into the openness and feel at ease
