#the anime really went well we have all the tools of color and motion available to us #and we're going to use them to make this parallel even more obvious than it already was #like there are multiple shots of this bench from different angles and under different lighting conditions #but when it came time for matoba to sit there they were like. let's make it look almost exactly like when masakiyo sat there #after breaking up with his girlfriend. the only difference being that in masakiyo's shot the leaves on the tree are dying #and in matoba's they're young and green #okay!!!!! okay. i am hearing you!! WAITTTTT icb i havent posted about this but i've always imagined the "what's that... matoba... *faints*" scene to be that matoba hears a noise (of natori collapsing behind him) and so his "shuuichi-san?" is like 70% confused, 30% concerned, but the ova matoba making it so that he's already facing natori when it happens so it just becomes pure concern (and panic)... so good. so so good. and imo it should make it clear to the audience that natori's whole "i realized he certainly hadn't come here to save me (....)" inner monologue is a false assumption. i think if he'd said "he certainly hadn't come here just to save me" i would've let it slide, esp since it's also in line with matoba's own words, but natori dismissing it entirely is... hhhhh

imagine being matoba's subordinate and you just have to witness your leader who is usually very scary and cutthroat just keep making concessions for this two-bit actor and exorcist he's in a stupid situationship with (which apparently has gone on for more than half a decade, jfc) and even worse said two bit actor and exorcist doesn't even fucking realize it and is constantly rude to your boss and often gets in his way. oh my god if i were in their shoes i would be actively trying to end that man's career (the showbiz one. if i do it with the exorcism one my boss would actively try to end my career and maybe even life, unfortunately)

No but actually. I wonder how Natori acted around his little lizard problem with Matoba. I doubt Matoba would pry, though he might've possibly thought Natori just got himself cursed, like in the Tomita case.

Did Natori freak out after Matoba carried him home, because it means - oh horror! - that someone touched him?

Matoba might grab his hand to have a closer look though, and Natori (assuming he started to give somewhat more of a shit about Matoba after the Tomita incident) would be like "Nooo don't it might transfer to you what if it's a CURSE" in a way that would, to someone as shrewd as Matoba, immediately sound like "don't touch me I'm CURSED and that makes me UNCLEAN and DANGEROUS". And Matoba, with his generational curse, internally would be like "Hold my umbrella"
