the writing process I have learned in this class can be very beneficial for outside of this classroom setting. For example, in my Uni class , I have to write final paper that has to be 4 pages long. I have already used my brainstorming process that I have learned in this class to help me get started and decipher the main points of each paragraph. I also can use the revision and close reading methods to help the overall stability of my paper coming up. I also have used the multiple drafts process in some of my classes where I had to write a paper in. It was very beneficial and helped to make my writing more clear and I was able to articulate my words way better then if I would have just stuck to one single draft.

I think the hardest assignment for me was the rhetorical analysis. It took me a while to understand what exactly we were supposed to write about and I had trouble putting a focus on my article and figuring out how to formulate each paragraph and it was also kind of confusing in regards to the thesis and what I was supposed to write for that. I feel like my writing has improved a little in that I know how to tie my paragraphs together easier and also learned how to shorten my lengthy sentences a little bit and just overall the structure of my writing and to make sure each paragraph has a main point.

Technology isn’t the cause of our addictions, it’s ourselves. It’s the 21st century addiction, not cigarettes. I agree with the argument in my original article and chose to expand on it in my infographic. They say that the more you sit in front of a screen, the more your brain feels the need to have it. You also become socially isolated, leaving technology to be the only form of interaction you get, with people through a screen. I further expand on my argument in my infographic through facts like what percent of teens would admit to having an addiction and the mental affects it has on people. To further the information given in the original article in my infographic, I provided ways you can rid your addictions .

That is an interesting point, and I don’t think I would have thought about it that way. It has definitely became a problem just as much as it has provided us with opportunities. I think it is a smart idea to look into the effects on peoples mental health, specifically teenagers and young adults. It is also helpful to give options for people who want to change it and better themselves.

I agree in the aspect about mental health problems related to social media. Social media can greatly affect teens mental health because its a skated view of the world and makes us think we have to live or act or dress a certain way to fit in the “box” that society puts us in and it can be a lot of pressure which causes many issues in teens today.

Prompt 10

It’s important to evaluate a source as the internet has unfortunately made the spread of misinformation easy, making it important to find out whether what you’re reading is true or not. The most important part of chapter 46 was the statement on how it’s important to exercise caution even when using new sources as it informs the reader that even a “trusted” news source may have some agenda they’re pushing, which in turn sways their reporting. While I’ve always taken what I’ve read online initially with a grain of salt, I’ll certainly keep the biases of mainstream news in mind going forward.

I think you make a really good point when you explain how the internet has made it easy for misinformation to be spread. I think a-lot of people grab information from sources that don’t have the best reputation or credibility because they didn’t take the time to evaluate it. After reading the chapter I will also be taking the biases of the mainstream news into more consideration. I think it will help me be more successful in my research and writing.

I completely agree with the statement on how some trusted sources online can have a hidden agenda and it can be hard to tell thats also why we can plug our sources into the media bias check website to get lots of information on them just to double check that we are using reliable sources, because having credible  sources are so important.

the primary claim of my infographic is that the new green revolution not only creates jobs but also is helpful to save the economy. It is a cleaner way to produce while not using fossil fuels and helps to cleanse the entire process. It has also been proven to help grow entire communities like the people of the Lakota tribes who have experienced serious growth of job opportunities and has made them stronger as a whole. I agree with the original argument that comes from my article and chose to expand it for my infographic by adding a few more statistics and quotes to make the evidence more credible and stronger as an entire argument. There was a lot of direct quotes in my original article that quoted people of the tribes who have experienced first hand the power of this new green revolution so in my infographic I used a quote from a person of power speaking on this topic just to give it the extra boost of evidence that was much needed.

Prompt 10

It is important to evaluate sources because you need to make sure the sources you are using are credible. You also want to look at who they are written by and when the time period is so it can be revenant to what's going on during the world at this time if that pertains to your specific essay or reading. One thing I was reminded of was that you also have to check who published the source as well to make sure its a scholarly source and not just some random site or some random person claiming to know all this information when in reality they do not. This may change the way I read an article in the fact that I am going to pay closer attention to the sources listed and the evidence that's listed in the article and then make sure to research my sources and fact check them to see if my article is going to be reliable and on the web it will make me more aware that I can use media bias to check some of my sources to see if they are legit and help me to be more aware of the endings of the website listed like to make sure it says .gov or .edu or something scholarly rather then a random one like .com or something like that.

The main point of the article I read for project two was try and convince people that the new green revolution was a beneficial idea for the environment and the indigenous tribes who are out of jobs and the communities that are failing. They mainly used stories from people who have experienced first hand and had solid examples on how this hemp production has personally benefited them. I think they could have used more logos by stating more statistical facts to make the argument even stronger to people of power or people who have the power to make decisions. They also could have added more peoples personal stories in addition to what they already had just to make it even more credible and convincing. I think there could be many potential counter arguments in that the article was written about a very controversial topic and there is many different ways to go against what was written in the article.

This image is showing the effect of climate change on our environment which is what the infographic is about. The image is found from the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration. The audience would be the common people like us, or anyone interested in helping save our community. I think they are appealing to pathos in this because they are showing images like a burning building or a road that is flooded due to climate change. If the people reading are humans, who want to be able to live normally with the environment in normal conditions this picture should appeal to their emotions to show the seriousness of climate change. The author is trying to show the contrast between the normal earth and then the earth with climate change and show the huge problem that we could have on our hands with this whole climate change interaction. Many people who view this will experience either fear or sympathy for our upcoming earth and environment.

Prompt 7

In my article there was many quotes used to use the logos method to try and make the argument stronger. The author takes specific quotes in order to explain how the personal lives of the farmers were changed while in the process of starting the new green revolution. She puts a quote from a specific farmer and he says “ In 2020, we grew 20 acres of hemp fiber and working together to make a greater hemp economy.” This helps back up evidence in how beneficial it would be to legalize the growing and production of hemp in every state. She uses many quotes like this throughout the article to make the argument stronger and ties each quote to the main idea of the paragraph that is being talked about.

In the past I have had many papers reviewed by my peers. Some of the suggestions that stuck with me, were that someone told me once when you read your own paper and edit it, it's easier to look past phrases or sentences that are hard to understnad because you yourself wrote it and you know how you speak and type. When someone else looks at it,  they have a fresh set of eyes and may be able to point out things that don’t make sense or something that you may have missed. Another helpful suggestion was to never try and look over your paper as soon as you get done writing. I was told this because it is believed that you will be less likely to pay attention to detail right after your brain has been running for so long writing the paper. Along with the good suggestions there has been some unhelpful ones as well. Such as someone once told me to just write as fast as I could to get it finished which would not be a great idea.

Logos, Pathos, and Ethos

My article was primarily about the Hispanic community and how we could learn some important characteristics that they practice.  The use of the life expectancy comparisons is an example of logos.  The author used pathos by bringing up the detrimental impact covid-19 has had on the hispanic community and showing how they moved forward through loss.  Ethos has been used by the author when stating the results of the scientists research on the hispanic community and how the scientists have come to the same conclusions.

I think the use of all three rhetorical devices in your article made a strong argument that could reach all readers. Similar to my article, the author used logos to show strict comparisons between different groups of people which I think is a very effective way to argue a topic or opinion.

My article was the same in the sense that it uses pathos in a way to talk about loss. In your article when it talks about the loss of jobs and on the people they are appealing to the sense of emotikn and tragedy in the same way that in my article it talks about how the negative impact on the Lakota tribe because of the white plum company takeover.

In my article there was rhetoric used all throughout the text. First of in the article they provided some percentages and statistics about the hemp revolution within the tribes and were trying to explain how it is being legalized in many states and it showed the numbers of legalization while trump was in power. Logos is how that was used. They used pathos because they were explaining how the Lakota tribe felt like they were put on the sidelines when the white plumb company started to take over. they were trying to appeal to the readers emotions by showing the feelings of the tribe and giving personal human emotions and thoughts. Lastly, the article used ethos in that it named the professional companies that were involved in the whole hemp revolution and gave the names of the states and tribes that are involved with the legalization of hemp growth and production. I think the main use was logos because of the stats being used to persuade how the legalization is going to be beneficial for the environment and they used the numbers to show that arise.

Post 4

The word rhetoric has a positive connotation I would say. It is usually designed to have a persuasive tone to the text or like an argument that is trying to be made or proven. I have heard that the rhetorical analysis usually considers all focal points of the reading such as the author, purpose, audience, and the context itself. It can be used for deeper critical reading in some cases and helps us look at the text while also considering outside aspects of it for a better understanding. It really tends to focus on how an author argues a certain topic. It can be helpful to use this to understand the authors argument and it will help your own understanding of the text grow stronger

Prompt #3

My pre-writing and revision processes were both not as extensive as I would have liked them to be, i basically jotted down some of the main points I wanted to hit, did a rough outline and went from there. For my revision process I read it out loud a few times to find areas that needed improving and mainly adjusted small things. By far the most useful part of my process was brainstorming as I constantly went went back to those notes to not only remember my ideas but to keep my topics on track as well. In project 2 I would definitely like to schedule more time for revision so I could let the writing sit for a while and come back to it with a fresh mind.

My pre-writing process was also very similar in the fact that I wrote down some bullet points of what I wanted to say as my main points. I read my essay to myself when I'm all finished and then have somebody else look over it. I agree with when you said you want more revision time with project 2. I also agree that brainstorming keeps everything on track and is a great way to help organize your thoughts so nothing will be left out.

If I'm going to be honest, I did not really have a pre-writing process for my letter.  I had an idea of what I was going to write, and with how I write my papers what usually happens is that I have to just start writing and ideas will flow in my head and I will jot them down on a piece of paper next to me in bullet point form and then proceed to piece it all together in my paper. This is how I always write my papers so I have been pretty used to it and it has worked for me so far. But I also could have planned ahead a little better and wrote out a structured list on what I was going to write it could have made the process as a whole a bit easier for me. I also had someone look over my essay to make sure it sounded good and will continue to use that method for the second project as well.

Prompt 2

As I think back to my high school career and my reading and writing I have to think about what was said to me that has stuck with me over the years and helped me with my writing. There was many beneficial things that have helped me learn but one of the things that has stuck with me was said by my freshmen year English teacher. He told us that as long as we try our absolute best and try to get all of our complete thoughts onto the paper then we are on the right track. He was all about not intimidating us and making us realize that if we mess up, it is okay. This was a really great transition into high school and I think it really helped ease the nervousness of taking my writing to the next step. He also would always tell us that it’s completely normal to ask for help and it actually makes us better writers to get extra help and almost always will have more positive effects then negative.

On my first day of high school I felt a lot of pressure when it came to reading and writing. I was held to higher standards and more was expected from me since I was now a high school student. I was asked to write more lengthy papers that went into depth about certain topics. I struggled at first but the more I wrote the smoother the process became. Towards the end of high school, writing a report or a 2-3 page paper didn’t seem so scary after all. I grew more confident in my writing and my ability to go in depth about certain topics. In my opinion, the purpose of reading and writing is to be able to gather certain information about different things and bring it together in an appropriate manner. With reading and writing you can inform people, persuade them, or even express your feelings and point of view on things.

Like Madrid5793 states, there is a lot of pressure put on high school students to be able to maturely read and write at a higher level of education, I would also add that most teachers know we have a lot to learn and grow as we mature as both writers and people just in general. I also think there are multiple purposes for reading and writing, such as to grow and develop your personal writing style while expanding your mind to new ideas an opportunities as well as express your emotions and point of views as is state in the post above.
