also i really like the stuff jack and taylor were doing with the synths and other production bits on midnights. leaning into vocal effects on midnight rain and dear reader, echoey drums on anti-hero like the monster on the hill is lurching towards you through a big empty space, the way bejeweled literally sounds like it's glinting and sparkling, the kind of fuzzy electronic sounds behind labyrinth, the background vocal of her yelling 'i'm so in love!' in paris, the ominous synth throbbing behind maroon that makes you feel like you're there with her looking across the city skyline in the hour before dawn
