we don’t talk enough about “the fast times, the bright lights, the merry go…” with all the amusement park imagery, we expect her to say merry go ROUND. but she doesn’t. and the meaning is so layered: the merry go round used to exist, the happiness was constant!!! but now, the merry is quite literally gone. there’s none left to go around. and even more than that, previously, the happiness was circular, almost false. not linear, not exponential, but recycling the same joy, never growing, never changing (in the worst way)
