Have you ever seen an artist at work in a cemetery? I haven't... and I was enchanted!
It was a lovely walk. 🍂
Some months ago I had the pleasure to visit this spectacular cemetery in Venice. It is located on the island of San Michele, so you have to take a steamer to get there.
The atmosphere was incredible... a cemetery on water is unique in its kind, and I found tombstones there that tell moving stories.
"auf wiedersehen"
On one of them is written:
"In ever loving memory of our darling mother and sister who perished in the steamer disaster near the lido.
Venice, 19th march 1914."
A very serious accident occurred that day involving the steamer at 5pm, which was hit by the spur of a torpedo boat and sank in a very short time. Sixteen people died and there were numerous injuries. Among the victims were the two English women, Sarah and Janet Drake, who had arrived in Venice by train the day before the disaster. The gravestone was placed by the daughters and sisters of the victims, who decided to bury them in Venice.
Rest in peace Sarah and Janet. ❤️🩹
❝San Bernardino alle Ossa is a church in Milan, northern Italy, best known for its ossuary, a small side chapel decorated with numerous human skulls and bones. In 1210, when an adjacent cemetery ran out of space, a room was built to hold bones. A church was attached in 1269. Renovated in 1679, it was destroyed by a fire in 1712. A new bigger church was then attached to the older one and dedicated to Saint Bernardino of Siena.❞
I left my heart in this place. You can find this cemetery in Bellano, in the province of Lecco. From there you can see this breathtaking landscape, the Lake Como, some waterfalls. Graceful how the dead can rest in peace here sorrounded by nature. 🥀🪦
it's been like ten years since i last posted on this app. i missed it, so here i am again. no longer a teenager but i gained more trauma and uncertainty about life. i hope this can help me in the dark themed content :p
let's start with one of my favorite photos; took this picture a few years ago in the monumental cemetery in milan.
