So I have just finished celebrating my Masters graduation!! Lord knows I worked my behind off, so for me, graduation was my day to bask in all the hard work, glory and recognition that came with it!
As per usual, I got my make-up done at MAC (my face was beat for the Gods honeyyyyy!!!!) and I did a similar hairstyle to what I did for my undergraduate graduation- so a quarter up and the rest left out and curly.
I decided to experiment and use two techniques at the same time to get maximum curls. There is definitely room for improvement, but the results were good. One such improvement was leaving the plaits/rollers in for longer- not sure if this made a significant difference though…Anyways…enjoy the steps/pictures of my graduation hair below!!!
I parted out a quarter of my hair and small sections within that, in order for me to do the three little cornrows back.
I secured each cornrow with small rubber bands. First step complete:
I plaited my hair into smaller sections in order to gain maximum curl. I tried to do this in as small sections as possible- but not too small so that it wouldn’t take too long to do lol
Once this was completed, I rolled up the plaits with my rollers
From my previous experience, I decided to roll inwards instead of outwards so that my hair would not come out looking all flicked up. I also made sure that I secured the rollers in place with a hairband. See video below.
My hair ended up looking like this:
The wonderful bonnet comes next. I used this to further secure the rollers in place and to “put my hair away”
However, as this was during the day and I had lots of errands to run, I had to put an additional scarf on top.
I ended up looking like I was hiding cans of beans under my scarf- but for me, I preferred this than to have my rollers all out and showing lol! I definitely did get a few stares though.
Sooooo… I wanted to make sure I left my rollers and plaits in until the absolute last minute. I went to do my makeup and came back…before I put on my clothes, I began the final stage.
I took out the rollers and as you can see below, my hair was a little curly
I then took out all the plaits carefully…
I did have to play with it a little bit to make sure it was all in place and not too wild!
I then put on my clothes and headed off to graduateeeeee!
BTW…LOOK HOW MUCH MY HAIR HAS GROWN IN THE SPACE OF LIKE A YEAR!!
