Xehanort and Zandik are kind of similar, maybe that's why I like them both so much. Really smart old men that surrounded themselves with other versions of themselves, particularly making younger them work on their plans. Both villains who's goals were "noble" (balance light and darkness or something for x and free the world from the shackles of irminsul for z) in the worst way possible and both ultimately dying.

will i be called a madman and chased out the village with torches and pitchforks if i say dottore's goal might've been to resurrect the original zandik through the other segments' and his own death?

i have a theory....

have i talked about sumeru's caste system? i'm thinking about sumeru's caste system.

i believe i briefly mentioned it and colorism when making an analysis on Cyno being called a 'desert dwarf' in game before. this time we're talking about zandik and caste. specifically the four occupational varnas, not jāti.

sumeru city's layout on the tree directly reflects the hierarchy of deity at the top, scholars (brahmans), administrators (kshatriyas), merchants (vaishyas), then regular villagers at the bottom (shudras)

you get outcast and that equates to just being exiled, you're not even allowed near the divine tree anymore. you have to go live in the desert with the desert natives who are treated even worse. (dalit and tribals)

and Zandik has been on multiple levels. born to a vaishya/merchant family, chased out his village as a child presumably becoming dalit, joined the akademiya becoming brahman, got expelled back to dalit, came back as scholar/admistrator through fatui when creating shouki no kami, came back as a deity-like spirit (since that was just his soul) trying to create a new world.

now someone who knows more about the topic would need to verify, but i'm pretty sure it's near impossible to change your status like that so Dottore already is breaking from the chains of the world, fate on a minor scale if you will.

It's why Nahida's "you're.... the outcast! expelled from the akademiya", "don't be greedy, harbinger of snezhnaya", and calling him an "intruder" in the most recent quest feel so horrid to me because while he is a villain, he's a villain that I feel only Sumeru, only the Akademiya and their ideals over the centuries could create. Even after freeing Kusanali, even after removing the corrupt sages, Sumeru still has a fundamental hierarchy imposed.

An evil child of Sumeru is still a child of Sumeru.

I see him as both Persian and Desi (particularly from Maharashtra, Goa, or Karnataka states of India).

The Persian influence is obvious, but different from the Akademiya's that's highly based on Zoroastrianism, he has a lot of Manichaeism (the original religion of the people that zoroastrians called heretics/zandiks) and Buddhist inspiration (particularly of the monk Nargajuna from southern India).

I choose to believe his Persian influence is the northern area near Tehran like al-Rāzī or perhaps somewhere northwest.

He feels like one of the few characters that seem clearly Desi outside of Kusanali, Rukkhadevata, and the aranara. Especially after his Moonttore boss theme being half in Sanskrit.

Sumeru's forest side in general gives me coastal west and southwest India vibes or Maharashtra if not just coastal

But, I don't really see much Arab influence in him besides general Islamic Golden Age influences. I could understand the argument for connecting him to Egypt if said, because he clearly has a lot of King Deshret similarities, but that's pre-arabized North Africa, so still not really evidence for it to me. Of course, his name Zandik is 'zindiq' in Arabic, but that's a loan word from Farsi.

favorite part of the genshin update is people finally realizing that "the segment in the prime of his life" was omega the entire time. i saw so many people think it was some unseen segment or the original guy 😭

also that tatarasuna dottore/"escher" was the original Zandik since he literally based them off of studying scaramouche

also that he killed every segment when nahida told him to and didn’t make more

i had a draft post explaining it.... but probably no reason to post it now that the game made it clearer to people. it just felt strange how many theories and perceived concepts had literally no evidence in-game

I was playing around with audio and decided to clean up Remmick's Lord's Prayer and his final monologue. I tried my best to remove the background score and all the noises and grunts. It's not perfect, but it's the closest I can get to a clean audio!
