She groaned as she finally made it to a town and started to look around " you know what , I'd kill for a Coffee " she said out loud not really expecting anyone to answer her .
Danny heard a voice with a lilting accent behind him and turned to see a young woman with fiery red hair. Definitely not a Hawaiian local, maybe a tourist. She didn't appear to be talking to him directly, but there was no one else nearby paying much attention so he figured he'd try to be helpful.
"Uh, well Liliha's Bakery in just down the street? They do great coffee and a mean malasada if you're looking for a sweet treat to go with it?" he offered before cocking his head to one side. "What's that accent... Scottish?"
She turned and faced the man and gave him a smile " ohhh thank you " she said lightly at the suggestion " hmm I do like sweet things so will definitely be heading straight there " she said as she looked the other over
" yeah I'm Scottish" she run a hand through her hair and ruffled it a little " honestly I just need out if the sun , I'm already starting to turn lobster "
Danny chuckled at her comment about the sun.
"Yeah, I getcha. I'm originally from New Jersey so I'm used to colder climates too. Spent my first year here bathing in sun lotion and ducking from shadow to shadow," he commiserated.
Her accent was almost musical, and Danny would be the first to admit that he kind of had a thing for Brits, Rachel and Harry being proof of that. She also had a gorgeous smile which was infectious.
"How long are you staying? I can also recommend a good brand of high-SPF lotion," he smirked, adjusting his hair a little nervously.
Danny offered his other hand to shake hers. "Uh, I'm Danny by the way," he added. "Danny Williams."
"ohhh so you live here " she asked intreaged by him " ohhh I like the cold I was in Russia for a while now that was cold " she said with a smile " not my first rodeo in sunlight to be honest but I'd prefer not to get burnt today, after all I've only just arrived " she said with a smile
"I'm staying for as long as is needed " she answered with a shrug " and yeah that would be amazing if you could "
She smiled " nice to meet you Danny , I'm Faye Hastings " she said as she shook his in turn " why don't you show me this little cafe ?" She suggested
"Faye," Danny repeated, immediately liking her name. It suited her. "Really nice to meet you too."
He gestured down the street towards Liliha's Bakery, enjoying the fact that she seemed to not be averse to his company.
"Sure thing," he smiled. "Right this way."
They began to walk in that direction and Danny couldn't ignore the curiosity at one of her previous comments. "So, Russia, huh? I know a little bit of Russian, but probably only enough to get me into trouble," he chuckled. "You do a lot of travelling, then? Is that for work, or pleasure?"
She smiled and nodded at his greeting . And then nodded as they headed to the bakery . Her hold all slung over her shoulder with ease as they walked . Her eyes darted around and she smiled at the area it was nice .
"yeah Russia , it was for work but I did a little bit of holidaying afterwards though that was mainly because I finished my work earlier than expected " she smiled and then turned to look at him "o, ty znayesh', ya svobodno govoryu po-russki. tak chto ya opredelenno znayu dostatochno, chtoby popast' v nepriyatnosti"(ohh you do do you , im fluent in russian . so i definitely know enough to het in to trouble.) She said in fluent russian with a perfect accent .
"I mainly travel for work , I've been all over the place for it, truthfully im here to work as well , though my bosses said that it's more of a working holiday and that I need to get a tan and relax " she said with a laugh .
Danny blinked at Faye when she reeled off something in Russian, looking appropriately impressed before shaking his head afterwards.
"Yup, you're definitely more fluent than me," he chuckled, not even trying to compete. "I understood 'Russian' and 'trouble' in all of that. My knowledge of the language beyond the very basics extends to a grand total of two phrases: 'Back off, we're cops' and 'This vodka tastes like urine'..."
He grinned at her statement about a working holiday. "Well it sounds like you work hard, so I don't doubt you deserve some relaxation," he observed, giving her an easy, lop-sided smile.
They arrived just outside Liliha's at that point, and Danny slowed to a halt before booking his thumb up towards the sign over the door. "And this is the place," he told Faye. "Best local pastries around, and amazing Kona coffee."
It had been all too short a walk, and Danny was actually disappointed to be having to walk away from this woman, even after just a couple of minutes knowing her. There was something about her that appealed to him, she was warm and intriguing.
"Make sure you tell Liliha that 'Danno' recommended her, she might even give you a discount," he laughed. He and the rest of Five-0 were regulars at the bakery, and the owner had heard Steve referring to Danny as 'Danno' often enough to have picked the name up for him herself.
"I hope the working holiday ends up being more play than work in the end."
