Lavinia started at the question: she had come to the three broomsticks because she needed to get out, and the weather was too cold for her to stay outside, but she definitely hadn’t come to socialize. The more happened around her, the more she wanted to retract into herself instead of talking to other - to have time to adjust, to think everything through before she had to face the world, even though she knew she would never get there - which was why she’d decided to sit next to Louis, who seemed to be in the same mindset as her.
“I’d say about five minutes, and no, I haven’t said anything,” she stated.
His shoulders sagged in relief when Lavinia assured him that he hadn’t missed anything, though Louis still felt bad that he hadn’t noticed her sit by him at all. Was he really that out of it today? He could practically hear Octavia and Theo poking fun at him for being scatterbrained, or any one of his numerous cousins or siblings doing the same. “Well that’s good to hear,” he admitted, taking the drink he’d come for in the first place and drinking from the glass. “I’d have felt awful if you were speaking and I heard none of it.” She looked about as lost in thought as he’d been, actually, and after a moment he leaned forward and asked, “Something on your mind? I’m told I’m a good listener.”
