I’ve struggled with finding words over the last day because this loss has devastated me.
Kavinsky, Vinco, Vincent, was a man with such a huge personality. He laughed and loved openly and honest and had a knack for lighting up a room.
I had the opportunity to meet him years and years ago (see above) after we had nagged each other on Twitter and he recognized me on the spot, despite the fact that at the time I was just a 20-something kid from Jersey.
I had a memorial project for DJ Mehdi when he passed in 2011 where I distributed these silly red bracelets across the world, even managing to get them in the hands of people close to him. Kavinsky was one of many who thanked me for organizing it, and despite meeting so many people along the years he still had space to remember me enough to identify me on the street.
He had this amazing ability to make everyone feel seen, no matter the size of the crowd or the distance between countries. Everyone I know who met him felt the same— brilliantly funny and endlessly kind.
He once handed me a water bottle full of vodka off the side of the stage and put his hand to his heart and for some reason that moment has stuck with me all these years later.
My heart is broken over this loss and for everyone else who has known and loved him. Rest in peace my dude, I hope your testarossa was waiting for you on the other side.
