my controversial opinion re: schools, colleges, etc. during all this is that it’s unethical to continue classes in any form, online or not during this. We value productivity over care and it’s extremely harmful. Teachers don’t all have the ability to translate their syllabus to online modules, students don’t all have computer/internet access to even participate in those courses, and libraries don’t have the resources to provide that computer/internet access in a safe way (we don’t have the supplies, training, funding, or labor power to keep together the crumbling education infrastructure of this country during a pandemic) and should be closed so as not to spread the virus further among those who don’t have internet access. Students should not be evicted from housing. workers should be paid double to make deliveries of food to students in dorm housing so they can practice social distancing & don’t need to congregate in dining halls. No one should be expected to continue coursework under these conditions- people have themselves and their loved ones to worry about right now. It’s ridiculous we are expecting classes to continue when people are so scared and everything is so precarious. It’s ridiculous to expect students to complete coursework when significant numbers of students will be caring for sick family, will be sick themselves, or will not have the ability to even access coursework. courses should be put on hold, and they can figure out whether to restart those courses as a new semester or whether to pick up where they left off after a vaccine and cure is developed and covid-19 is no longer at pandemic status. everyone’s trying to hold onto whatever productivity schedules are ingrained into their structure, but human life is more important than these arbitrary schedules. We all need to focus on care right now.
I think it's better to do the things that are possible to continue online than do nothing at all. It's better for the students who have access to the internet to be able to learn than for nobody to learn at all. Also most kids can ask their friends to print the task and maybe put them in the mailbox or sth. At least here in Germany this is entirely possible. We can't shut down education entirely. Of course not everything can be taught online but at least continue school as far as it's possible. This pandemic won't be gone in a few weeks. We must adapt our routines to continue living so that the whole system doesn't collapse in the long run. We can change sth about our system and I'm not saying school is perfect but a total stop is not the right solution.

It’s called the crayola colorcycle program! As on its FAQ, they mention the following:
“Crayola ColorCycle will accept all brands of plastic markers, not just Crayola markers. That includes dry erase markers and highlighters! ColorCycle will eliminate placing hundreds of tons of markers into landfills.”
There do seem to be some limits, however, as far as I can tell, anyone can ship in a box of markers. “Any sturdy cardboard box with minimal outer markings will work. The more markers you ship, the more efficient this program will be. We suggest a minimum of 100 markers and a maximum of up to 40 pounds.”
Also, look for the Crayon Initiative.
Their whole things work with used, donated crayons they melt and make new ones to donate to children’s hospitals.
This is a really good idea, especially if you are trying to find an economic friendly way to get markers or crayons out of your abode without throwing them in the trash
