It's not just that they're doing corruption, but they're doing the kind of corruption that is basically "guy hands over a cartoon money sack with dollar signs on it" corruption.
every passing day with Merz as our chancellor just makes more and more clear that that man hasn't worked in a "normal" job for at least thirty years
some of their members had already been kicked out of the church for antisemitic bullshit. this move was also decided by the fact that they investigated the cult and realized the antisemitism was literally part of their doctrine and not just antisemitic clonwery from singular members.
As I said, it's good that they finally did that. Though it seems a bit of a "fork found in kitchen" investigation with the SSPX

It was about antisemitism too! I’m Jewish myself and our congregation representatives have been in touch with the Catholic Church for years about this and this was indeed a major point - after all previous members at the time weren’t excommunicated for defying the popes order’s because that’s something that could only happen to the group as a whole. At the time the reason explicitly given for those excommunications were specifically about the singular members’ comments on holocaust denial and other antisemitic hateful remarks. of course, this was the straw that broke the camel’s back, but their antisemitism was also one of the main motivators for the pope’s decision.
That's definitely good to hear that it featured in, into the collective ban. And that they excommunicated them on an individual basis at least. I know of some of the famous cases like Williamson, though I was too young to know what the SSPX was when that was in the media. I learnt that later.
Though, the entire reason the SSPX exists is that they reject Vatican II of which denouncing the deicide narrative was a big part. Imo it's just....deeply baked into the SSPX theological dna. A lot of groups and people online who say they support the SSPX because theyre "traditional" - it's really obvious that they're doing it FOR the antisemitism and because they want a christian narrative for antisemitic conspiracy theories, for fantasies of "crusading" against Muslims, for misogyny, for homophobia and the entire portfolio.
And then there's also the historical responsibility the church has when it comes to antisemitism AND the pattern of treating structural issues as individual ones. I'm not putting all of this on Leo, considering he's only been in office for a year and he's the one to finally kick them. My biggest beef is with Benedict, really.
I think it’s important to clarify that this isn’t just any silly/funny religious incident but it’s the church finally cutting ties with one of the most antisemitic religious groups on earth. members of that cult were already excommunicated for holocaust denial and antisemitic rhetoric, namely one of their already excommunicated bishops went on Iranian state TV two years ago to say that the Jews are to blame for the Ukraine and Russian war and that they invented Covid to enslave humanity. Like I absolutely think it’s important to not just call this a schism but also antisemites being punished.
True, tbh I didn't think this little schadenfreude post of mine would get this many notes so I didn't add much further context. Though i think an important footnote to that footnote is that the catholic church didn't excommunicate them for the antisemitism. They excommunicated them for acting against the Pope and his authority and now that they openly defied him, they list the antisemitism as one of the reasons their followers should abandon them - not even because they are antisemitic but as "going against church doctrine" in regards to "our relationship with Judaism".
This isn't about any of the horrific stances the SSPX has on people - it's because they went against the Pope - and because if he had tolerated this, literally everyone else would start consecrating their own bishops too. So this is about undermining the Pope and threatening to open a medieval pandora's box.

Thought this might help others who struggle when writing. I know I get in my head too much.

Wow, I didn't have "catholic schism" on my 2026 bingo card

Wondering how long they had this sitting on their computer waiting for the day to send it
isn't it fun how quality standards just do not apply to AI?
I just had to call a customer service hotline - but now they put you through to an AI. I had a pretty simple request, a simple piece of information to be relayed to a responsible party. But the AI couldn't do that, so we went in circles (drip-drop goes the water~) until I finally got put through to an actual human person employee, who took my message and e-mailed the person and that was it.
BUT what's interesting is: I got the announcement "Your call might be recorded, please stay in the line to evaluate this conversation-" between my "conversation" with the AI and before I got put through to the human employee. Not before talking to the AI. Before talking to the actual person. Mind you, the AI failed this pretty simple task and went in circles and was useless. The employee was friendly and immediately helped me, no problem. But I can only evaluate her, not the crap AI.
Any negative evaluation on my part would reflect poorly on the person who helped me, so obviously I give a positive evaluation - but that also means that from the perspective of the company, customer satisfaction remains constant ("yay AI was a success!") OR it gets worse for the human employees when people take out their frustration with the AI on them. Pisses me off.
Hope this brings you zum schmunzeln, OP:
Eigentlich sollte künstliche Intelligenz alles schneller, billiger und besser machen. Nicht beim Autoriesen Ford: Steigende Kosten und Mänge
Also haben sie bereits existierende Designs in die "ich gebe dir bei allem Recht!" Maschine geworfen und ihr gesagt, sie soll daraus ein Auto remixen...und es hat nicht geklappt??? :0
