Manned drones are coming

Drones have been a big help to us the day it was invented and released. It can be used for aeral shots, whether it’s for a news report or for a scene in a film. It is also used by government authorities to locate unidentified locations of any hostiles in the field.

It also has its downfall, as some hostiles use it too for their own purposes and it also evade the privacy of others.

Its efficiency defined the future of cameras and not only that, it was a sign that small things can be carried in the air now. Most of us know that improvements of technology doesn’t stop and will still continue to improve and this type of technology is a sign of improvement.

But the efficiency of these drones doesn’t stop with just taking shots in the air or using it for locate whatever it is you want to locate. In the past few years, the idea of drones that can carry a human being nurtured the idea of improving this thing. Cats can be carried by it, why not humans?

Well, the long wait is over. The world’s first human carrying drone called ‘Ehang 184’ is still on hold for release, but the test had been successful.

It is the world’s first human carrying drone that was presented in CES 2014. The test of these drones in China, Saudi Arabia, had been successful and just waiting to be released.

According to George Yan, Co-founder and COO of Ehang Inc., what differs this from a helicopter is that this thing doesn’t need to a pilot. You can just type in your location of where you want to go, and the system of the drone will find the safest route of flight to your destination. In addition, the drone can carry 100 kilogram of weight and can remain in the air for 23 minutes. Its full speed can be up to 60 kilometers per hour and can reach the full height of 11,500 feet from the ground.

 In addition to its efficiency, it has only 25 minutes of charging time before you can use it. Efficiency at its finest, right? And one thing that can be added to the features of the first manned drone is that like cars, it has an air conditioning unit that keeps you cool in the air. It also accommodates only two parking spaces.

In case of a malfunction in one of the gyrocopters of the drone, other copters will adjust in able for the drone to still have a straight flight to its destination. In addition, according to Yan, he had tried it himself and before it was presented in CES 2014.

One of the things that can assure you is that if a product is tested by its founder, and has been successfully tested in most of the countries, you can be assured that it will work in its release.

According to Yan, he had tested the ‘Ehang 184’ and assured the viewers that it will work in an interview with CNN last year.

But, here’s the thing people. What only hurts and keeps us away from this technology of the future is its price, which is approximately 250 to 300 thousand dollars. Man, it hurts my eyes just seeing the price.

But let’s not worry folks. Maybe after a few years of from its release, there is a possibility that the price will go down. But again, it is one of the biggest achievement of technology in our generation.

Line of Fire: Survival Mode

State Universities. There are some who does its job and has great way of serving its students. There are some who seem to ignore the cries of its students whether it is about the fees or the facilities, some state the reasons that they don’t have enough funds to repair or upgrade.

But we all know that it is not the only problem, right? Most of the times teachers are actually great. They add some requirements that makes some students laugh because of the demands or even cry.

Studying in a State University is often times a hassle. Not only because of the teachers. It’s college, right? We have to learn. But the thing that bothers us is the requirements or the school, too many of them, and of course, as what we say “the line of fire”.

Most of us have been there, right? These long lines where you really have to wait for another two hours and sometimes, not just two. Let’s say maybe the whole day. It’s often times because of the requirements that the school wants you to get, and the clear demand for that is the clearance.

Here in the Imus Campus of Cavite State University, you have to be like a tribute from a district in the hunger games in order to be first in the line.  Yes, it’s almost like a survival game. 10 lines that has to be signed in order for you to get your grades. It’s not really that hard to obtain these requirements. Not unless you’re in a rush, and most of the students are in a rush too. That’s like going into war with every single one of them. Let the games begin.

Ah, you know Filipinos, right? Most of us like the thrill of the ‘last minute’. In addition to this rush, that is not the only problem we students face. It’s the heat.

We’re quite lucky that some of us didn’t experience the line like what the main campus had, not until the recent semester came. That was really one of the most stressing things that happened in our campus. Line is cut off at 6 in the morning? Who likes that? This is one of the things that we have to consider that this is really a ‘Line of fire’.

So the question is, how do we survive this long lines and exceeding requirements? It’s really simple, the students must rely on the science of our body and some, the opinions of those who already experienced this line.

One of the things you have to do is to eliminate boredom. Well, in this case students or even everyone who stands or waiting in a long line tends to get bored. Who doesn’t get bored, anyway? Add the heat because our campus does not have a centralized air conditioning, and the annoying feeling that our sweat gives us. This is one of the factors that we have to eliminate. Listen to music, talk to your friend, don’t focus on the line. It’s just a simple task. Because if you don’t eliminate boredom, you’ll end up complaining on yourself about the long line and the heat that annoys you. In addition to this, you have to be patient too. Don’t always be in a hurry. We all know that the circumstances don’t allow it but, relax. Just think that you’ll be done with this and you’ll be home in no time.

Task 1. Self

 Hello, When in Manila! I’m Peter Jonas Gainsan, 19 years old, and a journalism student in Cavite State University, Imus Campus. I was born in Quezon City, but grew up in the loving City of Imus and of course, I studied there too. I do really think that I am a good fit in the writing team of When in Manila. Why? Not only I think, but I will base it on the happenings in my life and my attainments. First of all, I don’t like writing, I love it. I have been a writer in our school publication when I was in High school. Back then, I have been joining some contest like essay writing. I did not really attained some awards from those contest, but it was a great experience. At least, I was able to enhance myself when it comes to writing and just try again, until today. That is one of my skills, I really don’t give up that easy. I am great when it comes to following orders, too. Since I was in elementary, it has been my dream to write and become a journalist someday. But, during that time I do not really know how to fulfill it knowing that our school doesn’t have any publication. So I just lured my attention in reading newspapers and books. On the bright side, right now, I am progressively attaining that and hopefully I will be able to fulfill my dreams. I have been a part of our own publication team called “The Cavite Chronicles”. Fortunately, my article was in the first page of the Sports Page. It was one of my biggest attainment. Though small, but it is still an attainment.  If I become one of the writers of When in Manila, it will be a great opportunity and a great experience for me. I will be able to enhance my writing skills more and learn more from its experts. Seeing the articles that When in Manila produce, it really encourage me to practice and write more. In addition, knowing that they will be having an internship, this will be my chance to be with one of the greatest online publication. I have been practicing writing, since I am a journalism student. This is one of the reasons why I am a good fit for the writing team of When in Manila; I am a practitioner. And what differs me from others who practice it too, you may ask? One word: experience. Like I said, I have been a writer of publication during my high school days and that is a proof that I have been doing this thing for years. When officially became a journalism student, I was really confused on what kind of writing do is my specialty. Since I am now near to my ascendancy in the real world, I found out that I am more of a news writer then the following one is a feature writer. Although I like feature writing more, I really do see myself as a news writer. That is based on the comments of my instructors and critics. In spite of all this experiences, what really got me here is this perseverance and this dedication of mine to what I really want. Even though I feel like giving up, I still continued and here I am. Standing and still striving to achieve my goals.

Will Online Journalism replace Traditional?

 Well in my opinion, no, it will not. Although someday it will, but it can’t.  That’s because not all the people are on the internet these days. Plus, not all places in the world are reached by the internet. Although it can, but no. Right now not all the places are reached by it. Plus, there are reasons that not all people can use or know how to use the internet or a computer. That’s the reason why they’re sticking to the old ways, like reading a newspaper. So, it might be possible, but not all people can use a computer. That’s why it can’t.
