Before Kagami could take Aomine to the states for the first time, he had to convince Ms. Aomine to let them go. It was a firm no the first couple times he asked (begged more like it -on his knees and everything.) and it wasn’t until mother and son had one of their usual heart to heart chats that Daitan warily changed her mind.
She could see how excited Daiki got at the mention of the trip and knew he’d finally get the opportunity to play streetball in the states like he’d wanted to do since he was little.
So she let them go. Accompanying them to the airport with an emotional Momoi, she pulled her baby close and her heart grew soft when Daiki hugged her back, quickly but tightly, giving the side of her head a small cheek rub before pulling away, face flushed in embarrassment.
They were never this affectionate in public, (Daiki’s choice, not hers) so she was so proud of him. Reaching up, she cupped his face and kissed his cheek, smiling sadly when he leaned into her touch.
“Be safe, cicada,” she cooed. “I love you.”
“Love you too mom,” Daiki mumbled and reluctantly pulled away from her, shoving his hands in his pockets. “I will.”
“If for any reason you guys can’t make it back on your own, call me and I’ll come get you.”
“And remember to text me sweetheart. Once every morning and night, though you know I like calling better-”
“Yeah, yeah, I know ma. We gotta go, you’re gonna make us late.”
Before she could scold him for his rudeness, he gave her one last squeeze before he pulled away and grumpily took a crying Satsuki into his arms, giving Daitan the perfect opportunity to glance over at Kagami.
He was watching the two, standing off to the side with both his and Daiki’s luggage in hand and when he felt eyes on him, he looked over at her and she didn't look away, a tear rolling down her cheek.
“Keep him safe,” she mouthed noiselessly. Please.
He nodded, eyes soft but determined; knowing. I will.
