I know for a fact many of you got tired of seeing and circulating donation campaigns from Gaza. But here's the thing, I talk to Amal almost daily and so many times she feels the need to profusely apologise for basically telling me how bad their situation is. Amal and others like her don't particularly enjoy being vulnerable on your feeds. But Israel has worked so hard to make their lives unbearable that this is in fact the only option a family like Amal's has.

All Amal is fundraising for is a tent. A tent. She fully knows this tent won't keep her safe or warm, but she simply needs a place she can recover after giving birth in the coming days instead of being stranded without shelter. I get that people don't see the damage they do by spreading covid unless the consequences hit them or someone close to them. But I do. I see suicidal ideation posts in the long covid support groups every week, often from people who have never had mental health struggles before. I hear about kids losing their childhoods, teenagers missing their youth. I hear stories from ultra marathon runners who can't get out of bed and doctors, engineers, and scientists who have to retire because of covid brain damage.

When we spread covid, we ruin lives. Not some tiny percentage, but millions of lives. Possibly permanently. In the face of all this pain and damage, I cannot understand the refusal to mask in public. It makes me doubt the goodness of friends and family and people I've known all my life. Especially when I beg them to care, not just about me, but about strangers. Kids who are going to grow up in pain from damage they never should have been exposed to in the first place. Why don't they matter enough to make a change? What magic combination of words can I use to make that pain matter?

It brings me joy to see the organized, determined movement of the flottilla headed to break the Israeli blockade. Israel has yet again ramped up its destruction of Palestine, and it brings great hope, to see this continued and growing fight against the genocide. I can only hope they succeed.

Don’t join the army to get free college. First two years of community college is free. Peace corps and Americorps have scholarships and student loan forgiveness programs for their volunteers. If you’re not rich you probably qualify for Pell grants. Go to a state college. They teach you the same things they do at fancy colleges. Sometimes there’s scholarships for people of a certain background. Ethnicity. Sexuality. Gender. Religion. Go to a grad school that’ll give you free tuition for working there as a teacher or assistant. Become a stripper or something. Just don’t join the army.

Trey Reed was found yesterday hanging from a tree in Mississippi. The police are saying there was "no foul play", but anyone with half a brain knows what this really is. This was a young black man who was lynched this week in America. A thousand articles on Charlie Kirk, and yet I have heard nothing but radio silence about Trey Reed. I only learned about it when a video popped up on my social media. Think about the implications of this: this is a modern day lynching, a hate crime, and a conservative white man is getting all of the press while Reed gets nothing. Liberals and conservatives alike are mourning Kirk, but where are the people speaking out against Reed's murder?

If anyone still thinks we don't still have a massive racism problem is this country, it's time to wake up. The sad thing is, I think most people know that, it's just that so many people do not care.

I know I don't have much reach here, but I haven't seen a single thing about this man, and this atrocity cannot just be forgotten, lost under the articles of Charlie Kirk and whatever Trump is doing.
