Zanka dying in the well but instead of haunting it or just wasting away before fading she starts haunting the Nijiku estate 👀
She messes with Kyouka and Goka specifically, trying to make them feel guilty or at least responsible for her death. Calling out their names in the dead of night, appearing before them in the shadows...
They were barely home when Zanka was still alive, but weirdly enough, they've been staying longer and longer lately. Kyouka even steps foot into Zanka's room for the first time in years. She always stops in front of the vanity, looking through all the old accessories Zanka used to wear as a child. She especially becomes attached to a kanzashi that's hidden away in the very back of the bottom drawer. One that she used to wear herself before Zanka asked for permission to use it (When father saw the pin in his youngest's hair, both Zanka and Kyouka were punished).
Goka can't bring himself to enter her room, the coward. Their relationship had too much animosity and jealousy. So, he busies himself in the training yard. But everyone can tell that he was affected by Zanka's death too. I mean, why would he reach for Zanka's old sparring weapon (Not the stick. Not the stupid stick that his brother killed himself over.), the shinai, instead of his own kanabō? (The first time Zanka managed to beat Goka in a match, Goka couldn't help but be filled with pride. Here he was, training the next generation of Hell Guard, with Zanka who would no doubt lead them. Goka turns to look at Kyouka, a huge grin on his face. It falls when Kyouka looks at him with pure disappointment.)
And suddenly- they leave. Out of nowhere. Zanka...well, she doesn't want to say that she threw a tantrum, but the servants and guards who were left behind had suffered plenty due to all the random items and furniture floating, windows and doors slamming...
When Kyouka and Goka return, there's something different about them. Their eyes have always had no shine, an effect of using the handcuffs to capture Givers, but this time they seem more...empty. Hollow.
The kanzashi and shinai are in their hands. Always by their side.
They've become Givers.
Tldr: Zanka dies, haunts her siblings, they get attached to some of Zanka's old things, Zanka accidentally (or not 👀) turns them into Givers

So these Four Apostles were intermediaries between the gods and the humans but both sides fought and the apostles were unable to rectify it, so theyre really guilty abt it and left letters lamenting but left out the specific details of what happened. Rudo is so fucking smart bro he picked up in between the lines of what Kyouka was saying and figured out they probably fought this is MY MC right here
I hate. How hypocritical this lowk is. Because the things the handcuffs theyre using are apparently imbued with anima that can stop other people's anima from working. And the Nijikus still hate givers. WHATEVER
Rudo if you ever said that near Zanka she would flip okay. But i forgive you. You dont Know yet about Hell Guard police brutality and torture. Okay Rudo. But get your head in the game
But this panel specifically I KNOW she was also recalling Enjin. Not even in the chapter and he's catching strays
EDIT: I also think that its another case of Kyouka underestimating Zanka too because we've already established that they think that Zanka was led astray by Enjin rather than making the decision herself to leave the Cleaners. Zanka would NEVER let her guard down unless she was in a very vulnerable state, which she WAS. Did Kyouka ever question how Zanka got to the point of trusting a total stranger??
Zanka not being found in the well and being the first to find rudo meaning he's a little more asshole-ish due to not having a proper mentor that helped him through his state so he's a little on and off with rudo but all they have is each other right now so they co-exist even though zanka hasn't had a proper connection for 3-4 years and rudo is still clueless about everything but Zanka would kill for this kid because rudo's determination drives him to change and rudo has so much trust in zanka that it may or may not possibly give him motivation again despite all odds.
Just two kids trying to survive the world that is actively revolving around them without them knowing.
Though, since zanka PROBABLY doesn't have much connections here, he probably wouldn't be able to help rudo much with the whole hunting for the angel thing but he is smart enough to make those connections so.... Brain works go brrr
EXACTLY...Zanka moves from place to place a lot because she's afraid of encountering any Hell Guard. She can't guarantee that if they capture her then she'll be able to escape them. She also feels this odd guilt for leaving without saying anything to her family...she sees it as her ultimate act of cowardice. Crawling back to them would replace it, so she really doesn't want to interact with anyone if it's unnecessary
Since she doesn't have Enjin, or anyone to look up to really, to help teach her better ways to process her feelings she often takes it out on herself since she's so isolated. She's lowkey starving for compliments lol. She just has to make do with Lovely sending her happy brainwaves
This means that Zanka's anger issues are CRAZY!!! Rudo drops from above and the whole time she's taking care of him she's on his ass for EVERY LITTLE THING. "Don't touch dat." "That's covered in piss and shit, are ya nuts?!" "DON'T ROLL YER EYES AT ME, YA LITTLE PUNK." She complains about how he's taking all of her galla while she sets aside 80% of their money to get salve and bandages for Rudo's arms. She Cares So Much.
With them only having each other their bond is kind of forced to like. Form and develop much faster compared to canon where they have more people to care about than just each other. But this also means insane codependency. I lowk didn't think that through hm.
They usually just go through hotels but they also have an apartment they usually rent in Canvas Town since it's arguably the safest place they can be. Zanka's been getting by by doing lots of odd jobs, but she also. Gets most of her money by collecting junk in the middle of No Mans Lands. And selling them. YEAH? YEAH??
People don't like venturing in No Mans Lands bc 1) the air ☹️ but also 2) TRASH BEASTS!!! Zanka views it as a way to practice with Lovely as well as make money cha-ching. And Rudo is literally the perfect partner for it so it became their weird bonding thing.
YES I feel like it would become a point of conflict in their relationship too. Zanka doesn't want to risk anything that can lose her freedom yet is holding herself back from actually exploring that freedom..if that makes sense to you guys. Rudo wants to find the Angel but has unexpectedly formed a connection with Zanka who he cares for but due to her often playing it safe he has mixed feelings...how could someone so strong be so afraid or whatever
Eventually Zanka decides to just help Rudo gather information then they'll go on their separate ways (lies) so I think them learning the Lore would actually start up during the Doll Festival...we're skipping a lot of arcs for this one but it's a result of Zanka staying low her whole life

Gachiakuta except when Zanka climbed into that well nobody ever found him again
Enjin and Riyo know that they stumbled upon a boy inside a well, tried to motivate him to come out, but when they came back a day later with some rope no one was there. They assumed that he climbed out by himself and survived. A week after they left Kamuatari the Hell Guard start posting missing posters around the district
Zanka's disappearance paired with Enjin and Riyo's arrival and departure has become a source of tension between the Hell Guard and the Cleaners. While Mr and Mrs. Nijiku couldn't care less, Kyouka is often blinded by grief and her already low opinion on givers to let the facts speak to her: that Enjin and Riyo have nothing to do with Zanka going missing. She's really just looking for someone to take her anger out on since they don't know what happened to Zanka at all
Goka, for all his self-loathing and loathing towards his younger brother, feels like he's taken something for granted. He won't be able to see his brother's flame anymore. Wom't be able to figure out if he will finally understand Kyouka's pride for Zanka, if he will look at his brother's flame and feel anything other than resentment and awe
Years later, Enjin's weekly suicidal exploration of No Man's Lands is interrupted by another stupid Hell Guard "surprise visit."
So, when Rudo falls from the Sphere and runs into trash beasts, what defeats them isn't an umbrella, but a wooden stick.
Tldr: Zanka went on the run somehow managed to avoid everyone and picks up Rudo when he falls now theyre learning how to coexist while Zanka's disappearance haunts the Cleaners and the Hell Guard for over 3-4 years
If someone else had found Zanka and got him out of the well, returning her to the Hell Guard, I dont thinkk she would kill herself
I mean she would definitely be toeing the line but I believe that she would take her survival as something that shouldn't be wasted...but the rest of her life in the Hell Guard would be a futile one
She would grow up to be the perfect soldier, willing to lend everything she has, her body and her spirit, for the Hell Guard because it's the "only" way to make up for her failed attempt
I think it would be ironic though that now she's the perfect soldier, the Hell Guard and the Nijikus do everything they can to preserve her (or her body at least) when she's at a point in her life where she takes more unecessary risks bc she believes its what they ask of her
Meanwhile everytime she hits the infirmary on the brink of death every nurse and doctor goes "fuckkk we have to make sure zanka gets through this or we're COOKED"
And when you compare this treatment to how they treated her in the past, not even bothering to look for her during the 3 days she was missing...

Zanka who is HEAVILY supervised when it comes to his academics but anything outside of it? Who gaf. Have the house to yourself while we do important business stuff for half a year and return only to ask about your grades, berate you about them, and nothing else
The only good thing about having the house to himself is that he could invite friends over. Aka Riyo, who is his only friend. Gob knows that Kyouka only checks up on him through calls. Goka doesn't even answer any of his texts. (Kyouka actually looks through the cctv obsessively to check on Zanka. Riyo's been scrubbing off footage ever since she's met him.)
With Riyo as his only source of companionship, he's usually influenced to get into the same things she does. Whether that be being her wig stand, learning to bake, or getting into some. Stupid ragebaiting co-op game???
Riyo mentions that she started playing it because of a streamer she's been watching. 1 week later Zanka is learning that she's also started streaming and now she's become a duo with this guy because of how much he carries her games. Surely the guy can't be that good. (He is.)

Im a liar all i needed to do was lie in bed. Anyway
Zanka's time spent online skyrockets like never before. Riyo bugs him to start streaming too but it would be very difficult to explain to his family why he bought a bunch of streaming equipment
Alas, he just resigns himself to watching Riyo (or the Ripper) play with his IDOL Umbreaker. Sighs. Riyo also keeps on bugging him to join a game sometime with them but Zanka can't let herself be distracted from his studies...(she's shy and afraid to act like an idiot)
Until. She's playing on her own, without Riyo's insistence this time, and coincidentally gets into a game with them. Riyo is IMMEDIATELY hounding on her to open voice chat. Zanka CAN'T. WHAT IF HER VOICE CRACKS AND SHE GETS CLIPPED BY UMBREAKER.
But she eventually can't stop himself from cussing out their 4th rando teammate who keeps making rookie mistakes at HIGH TIER. Like genuinely its so scary Zanka gets banned from the game's vc for a whole week. Riyo will NEVER let her forget this
And then she becomes popular because Umbreaker did clip that actually 🥰 So Zanka BEGRUDGINGLYYY joins them sometimes. Still no streaming equipment.
No one tell her that Enjin was actually her babysitter back when Zanka was literally just 5 and Enjin 16 (Why is a baby taking care of another baby) THE AKUTA SIBLINGISM AGENDA STAYS STRONG. Yes this was inspired by that one fic lowk
And then they meet 3R who claims to have only started playing today even though he's already at hightier. "I just kept ranking" On ZANKA'S soul THIS GUY IS LYING.
3R has a small channel that gets a boost in popularity after the clip of him and Zanka cussing each other out goes viral, and Umbreaker sends the poor kid a friend request to apologize for Zanka's behavior
Riyo gets them to start teaming up as well and be their own duo for whenever they want to rank but her and Umbreaker are unavailable for a full team. Which suspiciously becomes OFTEN..
So Zanka is forced to play with 3R most of the time. NO she doesnt like the guy. She says after defending 3R against some randoms who were bullying him. Does she know that she hates him. Can anyone tell Zanka that

Projecting onto August bc lowkey I feel like he would have the most memories (or at least the most not blurry memories) of him and Eishia's parents.
After they died, for a good while he was very detached to everything and everyone...like staying in bed all the time, no longer finding the energy to do the things he used to love
August immediately switched up when he realized that his attitude was affecting not only Eishia but also Alice, both navigating the loss of a parent/child, even if the former was a bit too young to process it until later on
It was such a long time ago that Alice can barely even remember that "phase" in August's life. Eishia has absolutely zero memories of it.
It's because August is a very considerate person...it manifests in his creations, especially in the uniforms and full face masks he creates for the Cleaners, as well as his relationship with Alice and Eishia
But he tries his best not to show when he's bothered by something that only affects himself, so when he does his discomfort kind of comes off as something silly rather than something serious (Ex: That one scene where he asks if Rudo is ignoring him now that he's a Cleaner because thats how every Cleaner likes to deal with him). Also he's been bullied before 😋 (A bully tore up the wolf costume he gave to Rudo, which he was supposed to wear to the Doll Festival at 13)
The scene where he starts explaining how much love and care he put into making everyone's costumes, especially Rudo's that has most of August's "treasures" incorporated, just further cements this for me
But he's also very smart...knowing that Rudo carrying something around would probably just slow him down, so he deliberately uses scraps so that Rudo's jinki could work on the costume

Taking a break from building my Lovely Assistaff to clarify that yes, Zanka would not be joining a team immediately and no, Tamsy doesn't get to kidnap Amo.
When Jabber doesn't find the boots Zodyl was looking for, Zodyl just makes Jabber keep an eye out for an jinki that produce smells or things similar to keep him busy while he plans the giant Trash Beast.
So of course Jabber goes looking for the Giver with the jinki that made that poison scent in the tower, because two birds one stone, right?
Zanka wouldn't be considered a combatant initially by the Cleaners because of what his jinki does on the surface, but Zanka will never duck a fade and it don't matter if the Trash Beasts don't have a sense of smell, you better fucking believe Zanka's gonna fight.
Which will catch Jabber's attention. He has no job to do and is probably just looking for Rudo for another fight (don't ask me how Rudo didn't get kidnapped in that arc I haven't ironed that out yet) but finds this random hanging with the Cleaners that is fucking OBLITERATING Trash Beasts.
And Jabber would know the scent of cyanide anywhere.
Cue Jabber trying to flirt with toxicology and Amo being super invested and Zanka being horrified that yes, he has been conditioning himself and Amo to poisons without knowing. But considering Lovely's new aspects and also Amo's presence, I don't think Jabber would try fight them immediately. I think he'd just be happy to talk poison with someone. And the Hell Guard had no shortage of subtle murder methods.

EEEK Zanka would probably hang around Amo a lot and Team Front by extension because it eases her to see Amo settling in with the Cleaners, but because of this attachment she also gets a bit stir-crazy inside HQ. She's started training with other Givers (though not formerly being trained/training anyone) so when she's suddenly called for help to scout out some trash beasts she jumps on the opportunity
The problem is that. They kind of brought her along as support. Not for the frontline where she'd beat up trash beasts with the rest of Team Akuta, but boosting them with Lovely's smells. This is immediately thrown out the window when Zanka is already pouncing on one before Enjin can even give out orders.
Jabber's just having the time of his life watching from the shadows. Of course, he can't let Zanka have all the fun! So the moment Zanka is about to destroy the Trash Beast's core, Jabber slides in and blocks Lovely with Mankira before her prongs can even hit.
Zanka is PISSEDDDD because WHO IS THIS RANDO TRYING TO STEAL HIS KILL. Meanwhile Rudo is watching in horror because ZANKA GET OUT HE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT STEALING A STUPID TRASH BEAST KILL I ASSURE YOU.
It would be funny if Zanka ended up losing their fight because Jabber runs his mouth too much. Starts talking about how he just knew him and Zanka were meant for each other, as well as their jinkis, because what are the odds of the both of them handling toxins and poisons?! Meanwhile Zanka is short-circuiting because what. what poisons. What are you talking about.
"Y'know, xxx is hard to find around here! But of course, of course, you can just use its scent! Just like in that tower! We're perfect for each other!"
"I was using WHAT."
Because genuinely how would Zanka even know.
The only one having a fun time here is Jabber. Amo too maybe until she finds out that Jabber was only searching around the tower to steal her shoes.

The fight with the Cleaners would take longer to happen in this AU because Zanka would obviously give Amo some of his clothes to wear, so Enjin wouldn't get to make those remarks. I think it would actually be triggered by Tomme freaking out when Zanka uses Lovely to calm Amo down with a scent from back home. It's a poison, but Zanka grew up being fed poison without knowing, so he has no idea it's wrong. Tomme would totally recognise a poison though.
And Zanka and Tamsy do NOT get along after this, especially because when Zanka tries to use Lovely on him she smells like a fruit that's extinct on the Ground that Rudo specifically recognises.
In this AU as well Zanka would have less of a thing about authority figures like his siblings and Enjin. Cause like. Enjin had food, saw he was starving, and left him in the well for weeks longer than in canon. Zanka does not PLAY about food anymore. (There's a theory that Amo cannibalised a few people who came to the tower after killing Mister because she's visibly put on weight and Rudo has committed cannibalism too, just thought I'd mention.)
Zanka doesn't really want to join the Cleaners - this boy can hold a grudge - but Amo needs safety and honestly they both need food. Penta is a shithole. So they agree to go to HQ for now.
And Jabber arrives at the tower. No Giver. No Watchman Series. But there's a familiar scent of poison in the air...
*crashes through the wall, leaving a person shaped hole*
Wait your brain is so big what. Zanka unknowingly emitting poison with Lovely so now he's also seen as "hostile" by the Cleaners meanwhile he's been (unintentionally) poisoning himself and Amo for months and building up their resistance 😭😭
I do think that Enjin would still be uncomfortable with Amo since he kind of sees himself in her, so their relationship would still be rocky. Though it would be more based on them recognizing how similar they are to each other (and hating it) instead of Enjin's misogynistic remarks (I mean. I also believe that it's paired with them, or Enjin at least, recognizing the other to be similar to them in canon. I NEED TO SEE THEM INTERACT MORE FUCKKK).
Did Zanka try to use Lovely on Tamsy (assuming that everyone who was unconscious during canon is the same here) because he was trying to attack both him and Amo? Oughhh Rudo snapping out of it momentarily when he smells the fruit meanwhile both Zanka and Lovely are confused about the new smell that's emitting from her prongs.
Ack I love the implications of Zanka staying in that well for 3 days without food without water because not only is it a way to kill himself it's also a way to punish himself...out of everything he chose to waste away in a well. It's definitely not a painless way to go. Not to mention that again, he climbed into a well where it's very unlikely for anyone to find him. I'm betting my entire lifesavings he did it not just so he couldn't be found but also because of him internalizing what the Nijikus have taught him: to be strong, to not bring shame. So, obviously, the way to do it is to make sure they don't find your dead body out in the open so they don't see you as weak for killing yourself. Also, I have NEVER heard of that theory before wow. I need to search around for that one.
Jabber still getting hooked because of the poison...there is janka in every universe.
Though with him not getting along with Enjin I doubt that Zanka would be easily placed into a Team, not like Amo who's assigned to Team Front already. Would he be in Team Akuta in the end or just be sort of "aimless" in HQ, going on missions without a team to belong to?
I'm assuming too that this would mean that Tamsy wouldn't be able to kidnap Amo because they immediately accompanied them home during the first visit?

IT'S ALL SUGAR WITH THIS GUY. But mentioning that Rudo just needs to eat sugar to keep using 3R offhandedly is a crazy way to introduce that new information...
Also Kyouka LEAVE HIM ALONE DONT PMO "tantrum" YOU KEPT AGGRAVATING HIM OHHH YOU GOT ME FUCKED UP ‼️‼️‼️‼️
It does make it interesting since we saw Enjin pay the price already with. His neck LMFAO. Meanwhile Rudo can just eat sweets. Kyouka might have a point regarding blood, since Rudo is a Surebrec and Enjin isn't. Regardless of both them having a hole that their respective Watchman series can fill, I feel like these pieces still end up very partial to Surebrecs. Or not idk im trying to think
Enjin being centered...I feel like Kyouka either knows about Enjin's watch or at least suspects Enjin. We haven't seen his watch on him... though I doubt that it's in bad hands if Enjin is acting pretty calm in his hospital bed.
The Hell Guard are related to the Apostles somehow!!! The Apostles are apparently Gods in Training who believe being stalwart and pure will help you achieve that Godhood. But what I find most interesting is that Kyouka doesn't say Hell Guard precepts...she specifies that it's Nijiku Family precepts.
This Hell Guard arc's whole thing may be exploring the relationship of the Sphere and the Ground through the Nijikus and the Apostles. She mentions the "Four Apostles" in the end. I'm vaguely remembering the symbols in Canvas Town and whatever- could it be they could be connected to those Four Apostles 👀 Actually how many symbols were there i forgot
But the concept of Gods just actually being humans who ascended to such a status by being "stalwart" and "pure"...the Watchman in the border..Kuro...IM EXCITED ‼️‼️‼️‼️
Anyways Zanka sneak could it be they were grooming him to reach a level of "stalwart" and "pure" that surpassed Kyouka and Goka to unintentionally and unknowingly get him to reach "peak Nijiku represent" which was actually just. Become a god. Because wdym the Apostles and the Nijikus share the same values.
