Jerry Powell Get's Some Recognition!

There has been a lot of fantastic news about my debut as cinematographer for my first feature film shot last year during the sweltering heat of August. There were ups and downs and all sort of limitations that we were able to overcome. I am proud of everyone who worked on the film, it wasn't easy to say the least, but it sure was exciting and the final result was better than I ever could have expected. Despite having a gun pulled on us during shooting and myself sick as a dog vomiting on the sidewalk while trying to operate the camera, I think we did a pretty great job! And who says you need pro gear?! The entire movie was shot on a Canon 60D, which was a major work horse in 100 degree weather! I highly recommend it for those on a budget.

Art show Prep!

I know I have been lacking in the photo posting department the last month or so, but I have been busy! All photography related, which is great! But seriously I am ready for a break... I've been shooting some product photography, yawn... bills paid. I also shot a short for a 48 hour film competition (@48gfc). Basically come up with an idea, write, produce, shoot, direct, edit and upload all within 48 hours! Needless to say Mike and I did not sleep. Oh the joy! But really the film did come out fantastic! I'll post it here when I get the go ahead to post it publicly. And yes I didn't forget about you Jason and Courtney. Your album cover, lookbook and product shots are in the works now. Anyone want to be my intern? I'll give you cookies and teach you a thing or two about photography and making movies, swear! I think this is the most I have ever written on my blog. See I am loosing my mind. Come back soon and visit me. ‘Solace’ is a fashion film exploring the relationship between a young girl and an Angel of Death. All of the fashion was custom designed specifically for this project by designer, BK Phillips.

So yeah...my face was on the Record Store Day flyer this year thanks to my friend Kimi Recor who does pretty rad art. It was like that one time that my face appeared on David Letterman and my bandmate Chris had enough excitement for 20 people and no one else cared! Thank you Chris for supporting my likeness! You can figure that one out on your own though...

All in all record store day was pretty fun. There were so many shows that I didn't even know where to start, so I just stayed in one place. 

I ran into my friend Josh in front of Origami Vinyl (which happens to be the best record store in the world)!! They were hosting an online game show called Vinyl Rewind about music trivia. It's actually a pretty amazing show and you all should tune in and watch it!

Black Flamingo got to play the Desert Daze Festival this year in Desert Hot Springs thanks to Moon Block Party! NO and Races ended up doing a cover of Leonerd Cohen's song "Lover, Lover." It was magical.

Earlier in the day I got to visit my favorite darling Julie who works her butt off for Generic Surplus who graciously supplies us poor artists with Shoes (Thank you!) And of course Neil from Origami (the best record store in the world) eats a steak burger, ohhh...

Slab City Adventure Part One

Once upon a time Black Flamingo (@blckflmngo) went to Slab City to film a documentary (@SlabCityFilm) with Mike James (@heymikejames) and 5 Second Films (@5sf), but the Imperial County cops came and ruined all the fun! Needless to say, we still had fun and played music!

Hiroshi Kagiyama and photographer's Jimi Franklin and Shunya Arai from HUGE Magazine in Japan (@HUGE_mag) came over to hang with the Black Flamingo (@blckflmngo) girls for a bit before our Monday night show at The Echo (Which was soooo fun!) We sang Zombie for them in a somewhat a capella manor. Keep a look out for us in the May 2012 issue!
