The Plan of Salvation is so philosophically sound.

I struggled with Christianity for lots of reasons, and one question I'd had in particular was why we were created at all. Why would a God that doesn't need us, create us, only for some of us to suffer and be damned forever. He doesn't need us!

When I first came to know about the doctrine in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I did stand all amazed. We weren't creatures, we are Co-eternal with the Father. He nurtured us into eternity to further His glory through posterity. When You're perfect, parenthood is the only thing than can make You more glorious, and thus give eternal progression. We are not made for no reason, and even better, we are made for glory. To bring glory to our Father (a D Mother!) in heaven, and to reach their same glory. If any other kind of Christianity would have found me before this one, I doubt I would have converted to follow Christ.

I've mentioned on my blog before that listening to protestant preachers feels like I'm listening to someone read out of all book with a hole cut out of the middle. They'll be talking, saying things I agree with, and then things the stop making sense bc they're skipping words and sometimes entire paragraphs.

I was raised in the church, but the plan of salvation is a huge part of my testimony and is a big part of why I stay. I have tried to wrap my head around how Christianity even works without it and it just doesn't click. If I ever were to leave, I don't think I'd be able to join another Christian church.

As someone who's queer I struggle with the marriage part of it all. The plan of salvation has been used against me before. Church policies hurt me and those in my community. Ultimately I love it too much to abandon it. It's such a beautiful theology that it can't be poisoned against me.

Yes, I remember that post of yours very well and it made me appreciate the Plan of Salvation much more because I feel the same way, but you put it into words very nicely.

Anything good can be used for harm. I myself am still trying to figure out how the Lgbtq experiences people have fit into God's plan. I pray with that question a lot, but answers are slow to come to me. No matter my own experience and testimony of this matter, many feel at peace with their identity and feel it fits into God's plan with no need for change, while others feel the opposite way.

Ultimately, God's plan is one of love and compassion. I like a German phrase "Nach bestem Wissen und Gewissen handeln", which means "to act according to one's best knowledge and conscience" and I know: If we do that and keep God closest in our hearts and actions, we can have the happiness He desires for us. It's about trying.

It's so admirable to me that missionaries almost literally tithe their lifetime. If a missionary goes out at age 18 for two years, that's 10% of their life! Tithing! The 10% mark is pretty reasonable. 10% of our money, 10% of our time awake (around an hour and a half a day spent on for prayer, scripture study, and selfless service), seems possible and even good for building up our testimony.

Sacrifices to God aren't just our money, but also time, effort, talent, habits, and sometimes even certain relationships we need to leave behind to follow Him. I feel that sacrifices get easier, if we have a lot of love for God. Not that they hurt less, but they yield more joy.

these are my own tags but i wrote a short little fic about it while in institute:

Grace can't quite wrap his head around it. "Wait, so . . . Jesus? Like, Jesus from the Bible? He visited you guys?"

Rocky's leg taps thoughtfully. "What Bible, question?"

"Um. It's a book of Jesus's teachings, I think."

"Oh understand. Erid has book of Jesus teachings, too. Very long book. Much to learn."

Grace, raised agnostic and grown atheist, really does not know how to come to terms with the fact that the Eridians know who Jesus is. He hasn’t moved since Rocky mentioned it, not even to fidget. That means that Jesus is real? Apparently? Christianity is right—or, well, the Mormons are right?

"So Erid already knew about humans," Grace states, crossing his arms. That, at least, is something he can address right now. He can work on the whole restructure of his belief system later. "Because Jesus was—is?—human."

"Is not," Rocky says with a vehement shake of his body. "Jesus is like Eridian. Jesus is Rock."

"No."

"Yes. Jesus say so Himself."

"Pretty sure he didn't say that."

Rocky makes a trilling sound that Grace has come to recognize as a huff. "Grace not read Jesus book so he not know. Rocky read Jesus book every day. Rocky baptized. Rocky 𝅘𝅥𝅮𝅘𝅥𝅯𝅘𝅥𝅮 (endowed). Not Grace."

Grace rubs his eyes with his palms, knocking his glasses entirely off his face. "Well then, how did they crucify him?" he asks, not even trying to hide his frustration.

“No understand word.”

"Crucifixion? They make a cross, like this?" He makes a cross sign with his fingers. "Nailed Jesus up there? How would they nail him if he was a rock?"

Rocky doesn't even hesitate. "Strong nails. Not cross. Asterisk."

Grace just barely doesn't burst out laughing at that image. It makes sense, he supposes. An Eridian Jesus would have to be crucified on an asterisk.

"Look, Rock, I'm no expert on Jesus," Grace says, raising his hands in surrender. "But maybe we have two different ones? Because I'm pretty sure he was human on earth, and the whole thing he did was die for our sins."

"Yes. Die for our sins."

"I mean, like, earth's sins."

"No, die for all sins. Earth and Erid."

"Did he die on Erid, too?"

"No. Jesus died somewhere else. Rocky now know was earth. Came to Erid after."

It doesn't make sense. It would be like - like saying Jesus went to the Americas after he died in Jerusalem, or wherever it was.

Then again, none of this makes any sense.

"Okay," Grace relents, before Mary can intervene on what sounds to her like a conflict. "Okay. So, Eridians are Mormons?"

"Yes, 𝅘𝅥𝅮𝅘𝅥𝅯𝅝," Rocky says, a word that sounds like a four-part harmony lingering on a high note. "Mormon. ocky will teach Grace! Like science!"

He might as well learn about Erid's religious culture before they arrive. It's definitely something he ought to be at least passingly familiar with. "Sure, buddy. Teach me."

Rocky hops excitedly. "Yes, yes, yes! Rocky set apart as missionary in case of aliens. Preach My Gospel in my room!"

Grace laughs. "A missionary? Like, one of the guys with name tags?"

Rocky hums. "Yes, I need name tag. Grace make Rocky name tag."

"You don't need that."

"Human missionaries wear name tag. Rocky need name tag."

"Rock."

"Cannot be consecrated missionary without name tag."

Grace sighs. "Fine, but it's gonna be made of paper. Happy?"

"Happy happy happy! Like Plan of Happiness!"

Grace doesn’t ask what that means. He’s sure Rocky will explain everything in-depth, whether he wants to know or not.

that feeling when knee surgery... is tomorrow? is what I would say if I knew my X-ray results. they have gone on an adventure without me. maybe the real treatment plan is the friends we made along the way.

Sometimes testimony is gained the hard way, like by getting a debilitating knee injury on your birthday right after breaking a temple covenant to show you that in order for garments to Protect You, you need to be obedient and faithful.

hi. its been a long, long time since i log on this account. i came to say my goodbyes.

i knowww this sounds dramatic for an account with like, three posts and no followers, but ive been a silent reader on the tags of queerstake and tumblrstake and so i guess i just wanted to end the cycle in a good way.

this little project (a tumblr account for my music times lessons and organizer) was, at the start, a very genuine attempt of trying to light up my depression a little. and it worked, i actually have a lot of resources and posts hiding on the drafts, but im not gonna publish them since they arent really that special now. im not a music time sister anymore.

a havent been for a long time. they took me away from the primary entirely (i was music leader and the sunrays teacher) about three months ago. it was... not great. my church leaders arent really good people, or at least not kind ones. they kicked me away silently, and i didnt knew i wasnt in the primary anymore until i discovered it myself while i was doing my lesson for the next day. i asked for an explanation, why i wasnt even notified (or my primary leaders up on stake, for example), why i wasnt even interviewed or at least asked- and i got silence. just total silence. they didnt even read my messages.

i asked for an interview. i got one, and i pleaded to stay, but they "couldnt do anything anymore." so they offered me a deal. if i accepted being the new young single adults female leader, they would let me do a final lesson that sunday. if not, i would stay calling-less and the organization would suffer. they cried about the YSAs being alone, and hopeless, and that they absolute needed someone. and so, i accepted.

i am miserable. i have been miserable for months now. im actually thinking about rejecting the calling entirely, since im doing a bad job anyways. ive stopped going to church on sundays. ive stopped going to the activities. i dont even have the energy or the strenght to look at the tags on here anymore. thats why im leaving for now.

this is not the first time this has happened to me. but its the first time that it actually destroys me. i miss my kids. i miss being a teacher. i miss singing. i dont even sing anymore. i know the kids dont do it either, not outside the music time in the primary at least. before, you could hear them singing on the sacrament, every song, with their joyful voices and happy screams. they dont to that anymore. its depressing for me, it pains me too much to just... not hear them.

this is the first time i told anyone outside my best friend (who isnt a member) and my therapist just last week (he just... didnt get it.) and im choosing to tell you because i thought it was the least i could do. give an explanation. even if i wasnt an active member of the community here.

i love the shared google documents in the conferences. i love the one account that missionary-fies everyone (im gonna be thinking about missionary rocky for days now!) i love the memes, and the critisism, and just the overall converations here. i really do. but right now, i cant stand to see it. it just breaks my heart further, because i cant feel happy with it. i just cant. not for now, at least.

this is getting far too long. i loved my time here, i loved everyone, i loved my mutuals from the google docs and everyone that appeared on my feed at least one time. keep doing the good job, youre so special. so, so special. every single one of you.

i will deactivate the account tomorrow. just to have a little trip around one last time. see ya later.

it's okay to do a bad job. take it slow and get back up on your feet when you can. when people let us down, we need to seek out God and He will help us get better. we can rely on Him always. you're growing and that's beautiful but that takes time.

When looking at modern paganism content on Instagram or Tiktok, I often come across posts that say "Don't forget that (deity name) loves you and cares about you <3". From what I know about most pagan pantheons (Norse, Roman, Greek, the likes) most of the deities don't give a hoot about humans. They'll occasionally take some lovers, or have humans they like a bit more than the rest. To them, humans are barely pets, tools to do their bidding, and little critters, scurrying about. It's not love anymore than it is a little kid liking an ant nest and then running to get the magnifying glass.

The common modern view appears to be wishful thinking, that these enigmatic powerful entities actually care about creatures so much lesser. Why would we mean anything to them? We are not their children, we are inferior and tools. They are irrational and don't have perfect knowledge and understanding of us. They won't be all-loving because they simply can't be.

It's a desire for qualities we see in our christian God:

> Comfort from the divine (Holy Ghost)

> A personal connection to God (being His literal children, not "critters")

> Being perfectly seen and understood (His knowledge of our hearts and intent)

This presents to me two options.

A) The western subconscious image of what deity should be like stems from Christianity so deeply that even when people swear off the religion, they insert desired godly qualities into their new faith.

B) We have a natural/inherent desire for such qualities regardless of which faith we consciously pursue. It's not culturally ingrained but a part of our soul. It bleeds into our view of deity because our eternal soul recognizes what God needs to be like.

To summarise: Many modern pagans associate qualities of the christian God with their deities despite these deities not being such historically. This may be culturally subconscious or inherently desired.

A bit more on creation, because it's something all around me every day so I have many thoughts on it.

We get to be creators alike unto our Father in Heaven. This naturally applies to parenthood, which members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe we are called to pursue. However, I want to talk about how this applies to artistic creation as well. I'm an artist myself and love to MAKE. He's given me these hands to work with and I'll create with them. I can feel the eternal progress we're here to pursue coursing through my veins.

Everything we make is a win against Satan who can never create. He's a spirit and can't make write a song or poem, build a table, tile a bathroom, paint a wall or anything remotely similar. Whenever he has some idea, usually a perversion of that which is good, which is still not creation, he has to use a person with a body to carry it out. Every good deed done with our bodies in creation is defence of the evil forces in this world. Be it the creation of life, art, production of food or goods, building, he can't do it. We've been given this gift by God Himself. He wants us to use it. I can feel myelf become more like Him when I create.

I just spent two weeks working at an evangelical Christian summer camp (long story) and I'd like to share my thoughts.

First off, the good things. I met so many wonderful people and was able to have a lot of really good conversations about God and also just life in general. At the daily worship services I felt the spirit more strongly than I have in a while. The music was so good and seeing the kids and everyone honestly grow closer to each other and to God was powerful and really strengthened my testimony in the goodness of Christ. I cried almost every day. It helped remind me that despite differences, He is there for everyone. No one has a monopoly on God. No matter which of us is "right," He loves us the same.

On the flip side, hearing the gospel without the plan of salvation felt incomplete. It felt like I was listening to someone read a book with a hole cut out of the middle. It would be fine for a bit, but then they'd get to the hole in the page and they just skipped over the missing words and didn't acknowledge or even seem to notice it or how some sentences just didn't make sense and the topics seemed to jump around randomly. This honestly strengthened my testimony more than any conference talk or Sunday school lesson. Sometimes you have to take away something to appreciate it. If this week has taught me anything about my church it's that the main difference isn't the book of mormon or living prophets, it's the plan of salvation. Christianity without it feels hollow. Like I genuinely can't wrap my head around why it all happened if the premortal existance doesn't exist, and if we don't have the opportunity to be saved after we die.

All in all I'm glad I did it. They are genuinely wonderful people who's lives have been changed by Jesus Christ, and that's something we have in common. I saw different perspectives, some I'm going to take with me and some that I'm definitely leaving behind. I encourage everyone out there to learn about other religions. Talk to people about their beliefs. Not only is it just a good thing in general but it can help you learn more about yourself and your own beliefs too.

Absolutely agreed. When I first learned about the church, I was hesitant and only listened out of obligation, but quickly fell in love with the philosophically consistent plan of salvation, the merciful plan of salvation, the loving plan of salvation. I don't have a testimony of every single little teaching in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but this one I am firm in. It makes sense. It's kind. It's what a God should do.

I think that we as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints really need to heed the prophets teachings be more careful not to treat the name of the church so casually.

I know so many people think it's just a small thing and that it's not a big deal and it does seem like a small thing but that's exactly why to me it is a big deal.

The Lord asks so much of us. His prophets ask so much of us, and so many of those things are really really hard. If someone is an alcoholic and they're trying to become clean. That's hard. My fiance and I work diligently to keep our hands to ourselves until marriage. That's hard. Going to church every week? Not an easy habit to build. Attending the temple regularly? Reading the scriptures every day? Remembering to pray in a moment of temptation? Hard hard and hard. All of those commandments involve going out of our way to build habits that might not come so naturally to us. Even as those acts of faith bless us and strengthen our connection to God, that doesn't automatically make them easy.

But deciding to say the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (or the Church of Jesus Christ, or Christ's Restored Church) instead of saying Mormon or LDS is awful inconvenient, but it's not hard. And if we want to follow God and profess our faith like we say we do then we aught to be considering the small and simple things God asks us to do because God doesn't ask us to do something that doesn't matter.

And going further, I know that just because it's a small change it doesn't mean it doesn't have a big impact. The reason that so many people (including the late President Nelson) were emphasizing the full name of the church is because it is the church of Jesus Christ. The Latter-day Saints part is pretty cool and it's in there for a reason but it is secondary to the Jesus Christ. He is the one we worship. He is at the center of the plan. He is the one who saves our spirits and restores our bodies. It is all about Him. And when we casually emit him from the name of our religion we lose SO MUCH. The name of Christ alone has the power to cast out demons, to heal the sick and bring peace to the afflicted. Jesus Christ is the one who sunk below all things so that we could rise above all things. It is His love that propels the plan foreword, gives us strength to resist temptation, become our best selves and do all those other hard things that will strengthen and edify us.

I get how easy it is to fall prey to the convenience of shortening the name of the church, especially when so many others are doing it. But I can confidently say that in an age where so many people will bend over backwards trying to convince us that we are not Christians, there is immense power in always upholding Christ, in proclaiming yourself a member of his church, and choosing to bring him front and center into even the most casual discussions about our faith.

It's all about Jesus Christ. And we lose something profound when forget that.

I went to an animal reserve today. On creation:

While looking at the very wide variety of birds today, I took some time to marvel at their intricacies. Each has different behaviours for nesting and mating, a different feathercoat, song, and social structure. That's just birds though, and these intricacies multiply in face of all the different species in the animal kingdom, and again with all the plants on earth, and yet again in the great whole of the universe and the scientific miracle of it all.

As someone who is interested in biology to the point of wanting to make it my job, I love to learn as much as I can about animal behaviours, the way plants work on a microscopic level, and how everything works together. Being a bit of a completionist, I face one issue; I can't know all of it. God took such care to curate this sensitive balance, to make a symphony of plant and animal, and to make each and every one infinitely detailed. I feel like I'm invalidating His intellect, power, and love by not trying my hardest to learn all of His creation by heart every hour of every day. I feel ignorant to His efforts, and ungrateful.

The feeling of "I have to know everything or else I'm a horrible person" isn't good. It's perfectionist and destructive, as it will make me unhappy and is plain unrealistic. However, it comes from a good place. This feeling originates in a heart that wants to know it's creator by His other fruits, a heart that yearns to reciprocate the immense love and redemption it has been shown. After realizing this, I stopped feeling that guilt and started feeling a much more pleasant emotion; I felt loved. My very own Father took such care to make a world full of beauty. He made a world for me and all my friends to explore and to be curious in and that is so rich in beauty we'd never see all of it because there's just so much. He made it pretty, and He made it for me. Each of us is so special to our God.

On Jewish wedding symbolism in scripture.

When a couple would get engaged in old testament days, it wouldn't just be a union of two individuals, but rather of two families. After it was decided, the groom and his father would prepare a place to live for the soon-to-be family. The groom himself had no say in when the home was done, only the father of the groom could decide this. Until that day, no wedding day would be set. This means the father had all the power to decide when the union would be made. In that time between engagement and the completion of the home, bride and groom would not see each other even once.

On the wedding night, the marriage was conssumated. Outside the bedroom, witnesses would wait for the act to be done. The groom would exit with a cloth that was to be placed under the bride. If the cloth was bloody, that means she was a virgin and pure. If the cloth was void of blood, she was impure. Impure brides could be stoned at the grooms discretion. I'm sure not every bride was stoned if there was no blood, mercy is an option. However, the law permitted it.

This is symbolic of Jesus Christ.

Only the father of the groom knows when they can make union. When Christ said that only the father knows when He'll return, this resonated with the people of Jerusalem. It was their own wedding culture. The reunion of the groom, Jesus Christ, and the bride, His Church, will only happen when the mansions are prepared in heaven. We (as the whole church) won't see Him even once before then. The father controls this entirely, He knows when it'll be time. Jesus is the means to prepare our mansion in heaven.

The cloth needs to be covered in blood. We are the bride, and when the marriage is consummated we will be judged by witnesses. The witnesses are God and His angels. The judgement is the day of judgement. We are all impure, unfortunately. The groom, which is Christ, would have every right to stone us. The law permits it. However, our groom is merciful. He uses His own blood to cover our cloth that so visibly shows our impurity so we can be united in eternity. What a groom we have, who gives us such mercy and understanding.

I learned this from our amazing Area Seventy who shared this knowledge at our ward conference. The thoughts brings comfort.

I'm located in East Germany, formerly part of the Soviet Union. Over here, the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints only had scriptures, and sometimes updates on church policy. Everything had to be read and approved by the government though and edits were made at times, not to scripture but to policy changes.

They had no general conference. They had no announcements. They had no prophetic teachings and guidance. They had no church-wide study plans. They had scripture and lots of grit. It's truly inspiring to see so many members persist through such a revelation-wise dark time. It makes me feel strong, like I can do it too when I feel I'm given no guidance.
