The most important thing you do everyday you live is deciding not to kill yourself.
Albert Camus (via philosophyquotes)
Mariah and Elijah
It was their third date and they somehow ended up on a hike, the last thing Mariah felt like doing today. Earlier that morning, she had been laying paralyzed from period pain. This was the second day in a row, so she had given a spare key to Elijah temporarily to help her when she was in need, and he was more than happy to help her. He knocked on her door before entering with coffee and a bagel with cream cheese. He quickly grabbed the Tylenol and settled into bed with her. Elijah sighs and states, “It’s awful seeing you in this much pain. I’ve been thinking and I have an idea, but you’re not going to like it.”
Mariah glared at Elijah. “What idea is that?”
“Let’s go for a hike! Maybe being one with mother nature will convince her to ease the pain of what she’s doing to you!” Elijah exclaims.
Mariah breaks her glare and begins to chuckle. He always knows how to make her laugh. She pauses and takes a deep breath. “Give me twenty minutes.”
“Great! It’ll take a couple of hours to get there, so bring a pillow.” Elijah smiled and gave her a deep, passionate kiss on the lips.
He knew her so well, and it had only been a few weeks since they met at the coffee shop. In her heart, it felt like they had known each other for much longer. Mariah found herself gazing at Elijah as he consumed his own bagel and coffee. They smiled at each other before they continued to eat.
Mariah had taken a nap in the car, as Elijah had suggested and felt ready to conquer the trail. They trekked along and talked about their likes, dislikes, family, relationships, past relationships, beliefs, everything under the mid morning sun. As they approach the top, Mariah starts to feel heavy. I should tell him...she thinks to herself.
“Yeah! We made it to the top! High five!” Elijah shouts. They share a crisp high five in celebration of their feat.
Mariah sighs, “Eli...there’s something I want to talk to you about. It’s something I need to talk to about.” They find a nearby bench to sit on.
“What’s up, babe?” He inquires.
“There’s something you need to know...about me. Eli, a few years ago I was hospitalized for suicidality. At that time, they gave me a test and that was when I was officially diagnosed with four diagnoses. Persistent Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, PTSD, and Borderline Personality Disorder. The big one is the personality disorder. Basically, it affects me at the core of my personality so I have mood swings, no sense of self, aggression, deep lows and highs.” She continued to explain her disorders in detail. "It was important for me to tell you this so you know what you’re getting into. I understand if this new information makes you want to leave. It’s a difficult disorder to have and it’s even more difficult to be with someone that has it.” She sighs deeply and looks up at Elijah.
Elijah takes her hands in his and looks her dead in the eyes. “I don’t care about all that, I’m here to stay. Don’t worry, Mariah, we’ll go through it together. I’ll be here no matter what, I promise. You are incredibly fun to be around and I’m glad that I found you. I just need to ask...are you self harming? Because you should never put yourself in danger like that. If you’re ever feeling down, let me know and I will do my best to help you.” Elijah takes a deep breath.
“I promise, Eli, I am not self harming. I haven’t done that in years, and I don’t feel the need to do that anymore. I am taking medications to help balance out the mood swings, and I am going to therapy as well. I am not as much of a borderline like I used to be, but I still have a long road of recovery ahead of me.”
Elijah wraps her into a big, tight hug and whispers in her ear, “You are not alone in this, babe. We will get through it.”
Mariah grips on to him tighter and begins to cry. They spent the next hour holding each other on that bench.
-I’m here for the psychotic borderlines -I’m here for the suicidal borderlines -I’m here for the dependent, histrionic and antisocial borderlines -I’m here for the autistic borderlines -I’m here for the borderlines who have too many comorbidities they’ve lost a sense of self -I’m here for the borderlines who aren’t able to manage their symptoms -You’re worth absolutely everything -You’ve put up with a lot -I pray you find the most supportive people ever
Mariah and Rose
Creak
Mariah cracked open her window. It was a beautiful Sunday morning and the sun was shining just over the horizon. She was thrilled for the day ahead. She had stayed up until 2 am working on her detailed plan for the day. Her day starts with a morning jog for 30 minutes, followed by a shower and breakfast. After that is done, she will reorganize her bedroom closet, clean the bathroom, clean Rose’s litter box, and clean the kitchen. After she is done with that, she will do laundry, catch up on emails, and cook dinner. And then, she would get to see her best friend in the world for the first time in a whole week. Bursting with excitement for the new day, she throws on her running clothes and runs out the door so fast she almost forgot her phone. Right as she grabs her phone, it vibrates. It was a message from Allison. The message read, “Hey Mar, so sorry about this but need to reschedule. Backed up on homework, need to catch up. See you soon! <3″
Mariah felt her phone slip out of her hand and hit the floor.
Thump
How could this be? She had the whole day planned out perfectly. Mariah was getting hot and flustered with anger. This was the third time she rescheduled. Wasn’t she good enough to be her friend? To spend time with her? Why was she abandoning her like this? Mariah began to heavily pace around her living room trapped with her thoughts of being an inadequate friend. She kept sifting and sorting what could possibly make Allison do such a thing to her.
Maybe she has other friends...friends that are better than me.
Just as fast as she slipped into anger, she was suddenly slumped on the floor sobbing. Her chest rose up and down rapidly as her breathing quickened. She cried and sobbed on the floor like that for what seemed like eternity.
Eventually, Mariah wiped her face and picked up her phone. She stared at Allison’s text message, reading it over and over. With one final sniffle, she picked herself up off the floor and wrote back, “Girl no worries good luck with homework! See you soon <3.”
Mariah and Rose
BUZZ Mariah glanced over at her phone and the corner of her lips lifted. She picked up her phone and unlocked her screen to find a message from Elijah. She had met him a few days ago at the nearby Starbucks. They had both ordered the same drink and collided when collecting the first caramel macchiato with almond milk and whip that was announced. They were both mumbling their apologies when their eyes locked and it was at that moment she knew...this human was different. His eyes went from a deep ocean blue to a light blue. There were gold flecks surrounding his pupils which were about halfway dilated. She and Elijah stood frozen, engulfed in each other’s eyes. The eye contact broke when the second caramel macchiato was called out. Elijah whipped out a sharpie, scribbled something on to the first cup and gave it to Mariah with a shy smile. She took a look at the cup, which read, “Elijah - 633-477-8926 :)” When Mariah looked up and went to put out her hand, Elijah had left without a trace. Mariah giggled as she typed out her dare. It had been years since she played this game, but with Elijah she was having a great time. Sometimes when he didn’t respond as quickly as she wanted him to, she would get this uneasy feeling that she was boring him or annoying him. She wishes they could chat all day with no distractions, but unfortunately they were limited to morning and early afternoon. She got lonely in the evenings, it was when she missed him the most. A week had flown by and she had made her decision. He is her new favorite person.
Slavic Cossack dancing known as Hopak
Warning: Do not try this at home unless you were born with super Slavic knee strength
THE GUY AT THE END
Ahahah it’s not just knee strength you need, friend. It’s thighs, ass, ankles, calves, you need everything from your waist down to be horrifyingly fit and toned for this.
Also core strength. So include the waist. Everything from the nipples down.
Don’t forget absurd back flexibility
“Ballet is a really hard dance to master.”
Slavic dancing: “Hold my beer.”
My thighs are burning just watching.
this video just laughed at me for being out of shape.
I had a friend growing up that was from Slovakia or Ukraine, I don’t remember which. I knew him from kindergarten to 2nd grade. And since there wasn’t a large enough slavic community for this kind of dancing, he did competitive ballet. He would constantly complain that it wasn’t hard enough. Guys, its competitive ballet, one of the hardest sports you can be in as a young person. Those C-jumps the guys were doing? In american ballet or dance you usually only get your chest to where you head was. They have their bellybutton or hips where their head was. That’s fucking nuts with out running or a pre jump. This kind of dancing was constantly going on at their house. I would like to point out that’s insane. His mom and dad dance almost every day. Not as high since age. But still.
When I was a teenager I was doing five+ hours of ballet classes a week and two hours of swimming. I was the fittest I’ve ever been, strong and flexible.
I had a go at mimicking Cossack dancing for maybe five minutes? And my legs ached for a week. That shit is hard.
do you ever have like a breakdown but your logical brain is still active just thinking “ok this is annoying can we wrap this up so we can go back to bottling these feelings and like going to work or whatever” lol
like can we finish this early im trying to build a potato farm in minecraft
Emotional brain:
Logical brain:
If we date you're gonna have to get used to me always wanting to touch you
I can feel it trickling through my body
It starts with my mouth, loosening the muscles
It moves up to my eyebrows and eyes
It slowly moves down my body, relaxing each muscle on the way
As I fight for my balance, it runs over me again
I shake it off
It comes back
I am overtaken with hopelessness
Despair
Mariah and Rose
RING
Mariah dropped her notebook from being startled at the sound of the doorbell. Who could this possibly be? Who would want to see her at 8 o′clock in the morning?
To her surprise, she opened her door to find a package on the doorstep. Yes! She was jumping with joy, her new oil pastels were finally here! She squealed and immediately ripped open the package and ran to her art corner. It was hard to fight the excitement, but she managed to open the oil pastels carefully to give them a test run. She fell in love with the smooth feeling as her hand glided around the paper, directing the pastel to where she wanted it to go. She was going for something abstract, experimental, and bold. When she finished her piece, she was thoroughly pleased and hung it on her fridge. This would remind her to play with the pastels more in the future.
THUMP
She stopped dead in her tracks and grabbed her chest.
THUMP
Mariah collapsed on the floor in a heap, her hand still to her chest. Her eyes were wide, her breath was short, and she couldn’t help but breathe shallow and quickly. She squeezed her eyes shut to force her breathing to slow down. Tears squeezed their way out of her eyes as she held one hand to her forehead and the other on the ground. She felt a deep rage within her and cried out in pain until there were no screams left in her body. For the next thirty minutes, she stayed put knowing she wouldn’t be able to move until this passed.
Rose gave out a small meow and rubbed herself against Mariah affectionately. Mariah found the corners of her mouth lifting as she slowly pet Rose’s soft white fur. At least she wasn’t completely alone in the world.
Mariah and Rose
Mew
Mariah jolted upright in her bed. Damn cat, she thought. She laid back down, covered her face with her pillow, and screamed at the top of her lungs. Feeling better, she slipped out from under the covers and dragged herself to the bathroom. Rose trotted along behind her, crying again for food. Mariah traveled from the bathroom, to the cat food bowl, to the sketchbook left on the couch. Recently, Mariah had been having trouble with sleeping. She went from not being able to sleep, to not being able to stay asleep, and that’s when the vivid dreams began. She shook away the thought and went back to her sketch.
Mariah deeply missed going to therapy. Although she could keep the bad thoughts at bay, she could not escape them at night in her dreams. Her demons took form and tormented her in her sleep worse than during the day. Sometimes it could be several nights in a row that she dreams of the same traumatic experience, over and over. Mental note, find a therapist, she thought to herself.
im in awe
So.
The Sound of Silence is probably one of my favorite songs ever. When speaking of the “true” Simon and Garfunkel version (as opposed to the version where they added background music to in post to make it more “pop radio”), it’s a song that gives me chills.
Disturbed is not a band that I really enjoy. I remember in college, my (now) wife gave me a copy of a Disturbed CD, because she had two for some reason. I tried to listen to it, I really did. Didn’t do anything for me.
But this? Holy fuck, this is stunning. This is amazing.
This gives me chills.
Holy shit, you have to listen to the whole sing.
I have chills.
Holy SHIT.
He has the type of voice that reaches down into your soul and hugs it. Love it.
If you haven’t written today, that is Okay.
If you haven’t written in a week, that is Okay.
If you haven’t written in a month, that is Okay.
If you haven’t written in x amount of time, that is okay.
Mariah and Rose
THUMP!
Mariah was startled by the sound of her phone hitting the carpet beneath her. She picked it up, brushed it off, and placed it back on her leg where it had slid off. She was curled up into a cozy position on the couch attempting to draw the feelings she felt deep down inside her.
Mariah lived in small apartment on the third floor a little outside a town named Givings in Arizona. She was a minimum of thirty minutes away from the nearest grocery store and a two hour drive to the city. It was not much, but it was her home. She shared her little apartment with a cat she named Rose. Rose was on the smaller side of the cat spectrum with short white fur and pink skin. When she rolled around on the carpet in the light you could see the pink shine under the white fur giving her a beautiful glow. Mariah had rescued Rose almost a year ago from today. As she was walking down the street, she heard tiny cries of a kitten from a nearby sewer. Mariah had rushed over and quickly got down on her knees to search for the kitten. Once discovered, she was able to reach in and save her. Although, the strange part about this rescue is she could not remember what she had been doing on that street in the first place.
There were a multitude of things that Mariah could not remember, but she was used to it. Mariah shook her head as random thoughts floated around her mind. She turned back to her sketchbook and continued to draw.
my cinderella wakes up with the taste of ashes in her mouth and thinks of her mother’s waning sickness. my cinderella has nightmares of watching her mother’s chest rising, a wheeze escaping her ribs. my cinderella does not cry about this, because she lives in the place fires begin. her stepmother has perfect teeth and high eyebrows. “are you done sweeping?” she asks. “i need to see myself in my tiles.”
there are long days spent like this. sometimes cinderella gets caught on things. she spends four hours with a toothbrush swiveling in small circles, her whole body trembling. she thinks if everything is perfect, nothing bad will happen. if she checks the stove eight times, it will not poison her like her stepmother’s venom. if she lets the cat scratch her once a day, it will learn to love her. if she just gets these baseboards clean, maybe her father will come home to her.
the invitation comes when she is adjusting the pictures on the wall. it is announced with fanfare. her stepmother sends out the request for dresses instantly while cinderella watches, waiting.
“baby,” stepmother wakes her on the day of, “hope you know how long you’ll be working for today.” strokes her hair a little.
cinderella stares at her. doesn’t want to go to the ball, where people will be twirling around on floors someone else spent six hours polishing, where people will be careless in eating food someone else toiled over cooking. where people like her fade into the shadows.
when she opens her mouth, she says, “let me go, stepmother.” it is worth the look of shock and terror on that woman’s face to tell a lie. cinderella, after the slap, hides her face and smiles.
they leave trumpeting. her step sisters are cupcakes floating on shoes cinderella has sown together.
in the night, she rises from her bed and coaxes a little mouse onto her hands and snaps its little neck.
boiling the fur of it off is easy. she feeds the bits to the cat, who twines around her feet. she takes the bones under the poplar tree and lays them out just-so. she says the words her mother used to know.
deep from the shadows comes the Fairy. pink and pretty with eyes that are totally empty. cinderella knows better than to look at them directly. “you summon me?” asks the ancient one. “what needs be done?”
cinderella does not want a ball. cinderella wants a night off. she explains slowly what she wants. she gives the Fairy three things: a needle. a fingernail. a strand of hair. the deal is done, midnight comes. she dresses in her mother’s dress, hidden under the floorboards. it is beautiful, white, shines like a river. on her feet are no shoes at all. she wants to feel the ground that carries her, that has been tilled by people like her.
at the gates, they stop her. no carriage, nothing but a smile on her. but she’s so polite. so willing. has big fluttering eyelashes. lures the guards beyond the light of the castle’s torches. knows how to work a kitchen knife.
inside, she is blinded by the brightness of lamps on granite. everyone here is laughing. gliding. cinderella glides too, effortless without any shoes.
her stepsisters hang off one another, have their arms draped off the prince. cinderella walks up. smiles. says the words her mother taught her. they erupt into screams. “needles” they howl, dancing in shoes cinderella made, “needles in my feet.” they bleed all over the floors someone worked hard for. “That,” says cinderella, “is one for me.”
the prince is without words. stepmother in her skirts tumbles as she skitters forwards. she is bubbling with improper language to speak in front of royals. on her hand is a nail chipped from slapping her stepdaughter. cinderella looks her in the eyes when she says the word. without a pause, violent scratches appear over her stepmother. she is torn open.
“that,” says cinderella, “is for my mother.”
cinderella tips over candle sticks and sets things on fire. leaves them all with the taste of ashes in their lungs. turns. does not run.
the prince follows. on his steps, as the clock strikes midnight, he finds a footprint in blood. he swears he will find whomever it belongs to if he has to try the shoes of every girl in the kingdom.
but cinderella is no longer a girl. the last, a ring of cathair, has turned her into whiskers and a tail. she sits there, watching him in the light. she twines around his legs and purrs at him. he finds her white coat fascinating.
she lives off of castle food for the rest of her life. sometimes, when she is bored, she bats all of the pictures straight in the front hall.
nobody ever finds the girl. at the funeral of the stepmother, a white cat sits by the feet of the widowed man who was her father. he has nightmares of his first wife forever after.
I play game that too!
