a/n: based on my own obsession with the game and who let me out during exam season?
"So like Wilds came out and I reached HR 100, ya know?" Atsumu opened up, shimmying his shoes on, as you stood by your usual spot at the entrance of the gym. A typical afternoon where the twins rambled, and Suna Rintarou was always on the lookout for new blackmail material.
"Uh-huh, thanks for the context, but what are you talking about?" You tilted your head. Atsumu always managed to create something out of nothing in the best of ways, although sometimes, borderline outlandish. Endearing.
Atsumu pouted, stomping his feet a little harder, "My new game, Y/N!"
"And care to tell her why ya barely left the room for three daysâ," Osamu piqued from the side, offering you a smirk as he outed his twin's weekend plans. The younger twin was often your partner in crime when it came to grievances against Atsumu.
You scrunched your face in disgust, scoffing, "You spent how many hours in the last week playing what now, 'Tsum?"
You vividly remember accruing more hours than that for another game. Although that's ammunition you're not willing to give the twins, especially Atsumu.
Suna glanced at you knowingly, his lip pressed a little too much for your liking. You knew he was trying his hardest not to spill it. Your years together with Suna Rintarou have given him enough details on how you function. A little too well.
"Monster Hunter Wilds? Have ya been living under a rock?" Atsumu threw back.
You smacked Atsumu at the nape, "Well, sorry I'm not Mr. Free Time over hereâ I was breaking my backâ"
"I sure hope someone was breaking yer back pftâ" He cut you off as he stuck his tongue out. No wonder he is the older twin. Anyone can tell, truly.
"And what would you know about that, huh? Last time I checked, you're single too!" You huffed, speeding up your pace to pass the blonde, not missing your chance to bump him out of the way. At this point, it was better to leave him off whilst you go enjoy the usual cold treat at the convenience store.
"See, this is why nobody likes you."
Suna taunted, walking past Atsumu without glancing back. His eyes were stuck on your pouted lips and scrunched brows.
"Such a scrub," Osamu chimed, as he added another kick on Atsumu's leg. Some would call it bullying, but they'd call it affection.
"Why am I being abused?!" Atsumu rubbed out the sore spot and proceeded to grab Osamu by his collar, " AGHâ 'Samu, you're in this with me tooâ you play it."
"Don't put me in the likes of yaâ I'm not running on one brain cell," Osamu attempted to pry himself off, "Besides, I didn't rawdog three days straight."
"YAH just four?! And at least I have a brain cell! There's nothing in yoursâ" Atsumu jumped at his twin.
In the meantime, Suna had already paused and whipped out his phone. You stood by with an amused smile, timing the whole scene. The longest tumble was recorded at a whopping ten minutes.
Osamu yanked the blonde's hair, throwing them off balance, and was pulled down to the sidewalk, "What d'ya sayâ say it with your chest, you oaf."
"Ya, I got a big mouth just to tell ya the same thingâ" Atsumu's mouth was clamped shut by his twin; with no hesitation, he chomped on Osamu's hand with feral spite.
With a shake of his head and Osamu's yelp heard in the background, Suna stopped the recording. "Ignore themâ that'll be at least five minutes before they get over it."
Suna peered over you. His hand outstretched, motioning to the bag taut at your shoulder, "But seriouslyâ you haven't heard of the game?"
"No, is it good?" You huffed out, finally free of the weight on your shoulders, your arm hooked around his.
"I'd say soâ I was thinking of hopping on and just getting a higher level."
"Is that out of spite I'm hearing?" You beamed at him. Sunarin never really outgrew his hidden competitiveness. Always lurking, watching.
"Haâ having a better rank and beating the final boss faster than them? Nothing could make me happier." He let out a loud, theatrical laugh, wiping off nonexistent tears from his eyes.
You shook your head, barely containing a chuckle, "That's to be expected."
"Yeah, yeah, shut up about it."
With the twins lost somewhere in the distance, silence loomed, and yet it was calm. Suna nudged you, pulling you out of your thoughts, "Are you doing anything for the rest of the break?"
"Hmm, not really, why?"
The boy rubbed the back of his head, averting his eyes away from your figure, mumbling, "Why not play with me? I think you'd like it."
"Really? Is it because of that one time I toppled your recordâ HA!" You pulled away, missing his grip, hesitating for a fraction of a second before his arm went to his side.
"Just vibesâ and you think you can beat me? Let's see you try," Suna reached over and ruffled your hair, albeit wary not to completely ruin it.
Protesting, you swatted his hand off your head, "I'd gladly take you up on your offer, but I fear my laptop would crash." Although a smile still crept at your lips.
"Don't you have a gaming laptop, so that it's more heavy-duty?" Suna almost immediately mimicked the phrasing with a pair of exaggerated air quotes.
"Jerk, don't mockâ it's already heavy as it is." You retaliated with a quick, playful pinch to his forearm, shooting him a warning look completely ruined by your laugh.
Suna absently rubbed his arm, but he didn't move. Instead, his gaze lingered with a gentleness you can't quite discern, "See, exactly, might as well make it worth itâ I can change out the RAM for you so it can play games."
"Are you sure? Isn't that expensive? Also, that's already too much troubleâ"
He brushed you off with a dismissive shrug before you could finish, "I have an extra one." It was just like him, quietly taking care of things without ever waiting for permission or praise.
"Well, if you insist," You trailed off, staring at him, silently dissecting every detailâ the relaxed line of his jaw, the easy turn of his shoulder, trying to figure out how he could act so effortlessly.
"Quit thinking, it's not a good look," He tapped your forehead with two fingersâ his index and middleâ before jerking his chin toward your house ahead.
A small huff slipped past your lips as the realization hit, "Never mind, you're still you."
"Shame," he replied smoothly, a faint grin flickering across his face. "I'll meet you at your house in thirtyâ leave some space for me."
The low hum of the computer fan echoed in the quiet room as the title screen brightened the display. Your figures squeezed together, with barely enough desk space for both setups, and yet, no one moved an inch.
"Okay, so how do I even begin?" You looked over at him, sporting his own worn-in jersey you'd dug out from your closet. Who knows how long it had been sitting there or how it ended up in your possession, but it was far too soft and comfortable to give back now.
"It's going to play out the story first, and then it'll show you the mechanics," Suna replied, leaning back into his chair as the cutscene rolled. His gray hoodie sleeves pushed up to his forearm as his narrow eyes casually tracked the screen.
You squinted and pointed a finger right at the monitor, "Oh my god, do I get to ride this birdy thing?"
"It's called a Seikret, and it'll be your in-game horse, so yesâ," He paused, adjusting himself in his chair as he broke down the basics. "It's your main mount in this game, and it'll end up carrying your extra weapon and navigating for you so you don't get lost."
"This is so coolâ wait, my feed has been filled with character customization," You trailed off, lowering your hand as your eyes were glued to the displayed options of the character creation menu loading up.
"Yeah, I've seen them. I'm spending a lot of time doing the quests for the fashion, to be honest," Suna admitted, propping his chin on his palm as you perused over the endless customization, scrolling past sliders for eye shape, hair styles, and face contours.
"Just like you to want to be stylish."
"Hey, have you seen Atsumu's character?" Suna asked with a faint, fox-like smirk that tugged at his lips, highlighted by the soft blue light emitted from his phone. "He matched it a little too hardâ it's looking orange."
"No wayâ and how long did it take him? Lemme guess, he said an hour?" You peered over his screen, closely hovering over him.
His hand casually snaked around your waist, pulling you just enough to keep you steady. Very normal. Very friendly. What a completely platonic thing for him to do.
"Not even close," Suna responded, his palm resting against the side of your hip, fingers lightly digging into you, "'Samu was complaining he was up 'til one in the morning with him because 'Tsumu kept tweaking about his hairline."
"Even his in-game character couldn't escape his lack of toner knowledge," you giggled as you shifted your weight further against him to get a better angle at his monitor.
The quiet hum of the PC swallowed up your laughter, leaving only the light glow of the screen illuminating the two of you. Your close proximity allowed you to feel the steady rise and fall of Suna's chest.
He didn't pull back; if anything, his arm tightened just a fraction more, tucking you in closer to his side as his thumb lightly brushed the hem of his old jersey.
You clicked through another set of sliders on the screen, entirely focused on the minute details, "Dude, my nose isn't even turning out rightâ"
You paused, turning your head slightly, your nose almost brushing his cheek, "Hey, you with me?"
Suna went dead quiet, his eyes dropping to your mouth, met your eyes, before snapping back to the monitor. He blinked, clearing his throat softly. "You're overthinking it, it's great like that."
"If you say so."
"Since you're so worried about it, why not match with me?" He dragged his cursor over and pulled up his own saved character model on his display.
"Wow, a great idea came out of your mouth," You laughed.
Suna casually gave your waist a little squeeze in retaliation, nudging you with his shoulder, "What can I say, I'm that great."
"What's next, you're going to suggest let's match and be an in-game couple?" You cackled, throwing your head back against his shoulder.
"Why not in real life, too?"
The laughter caught in your throat. The room went dead silent, save for the ambient background track of the game looping through the speakers.
"You're so funnyâ wait whatâ?" You freeze, turning to look at him incredulously.
Suna stared back at you, his usual nonchalant composure wrecked as a deep, sudden flush crept up his neck and dusted the tips of his ears. He clearly was not planning for those words to slip from his mouth, especially not while holding you this close.
"I meanâ well, I was thinking about it, but I didn't think I'd actually slipâ" He frantically averted his gaze toward the wall, his hand loosening around you as he scrambled to figure out how to salvage the confession.
He was cut off as you pressed your lips against his.
Shocked for a split second, Suna's eyes fluttered shut as his hand instinctively tightened back around your waist, pulling you close as he leaned into the kiss.
When you finally pulled back, a mischievous smirk was playing on your lips, "Actually, ask me properly, you dork."
Suna took a sharp, quiet breath, the tension left his shoulders as those sharp, golden-brown eyes locked onto yours from inches away. "Can we please be an in-game couple, and can I be yours in real life too?"
"Wait, wait, I didn't get that. Can you repeat it for the camera again?"You whipped out your phone, aiming the lens right at his flushed face.
"You're really funny, huh?" He muttered, instantly digging his fingers into your sides to tickle you.
"Stop, stop, I can't breathe!" You wheezed out a laugh, squirming against him until he finally let up. You caught your breath as you flashed him a wide, toothy grin, "Yes, but only if you make my character for me."
"Baby," Suna softened, eyes crinkling at the corners as he pulled you back down to rest his forehead gently against yours, "I was way ahead of you."
