you and John were gone for a few days looking for a way to bring some money
you had stopped near a lake and had established a camp, the beginning of the night had been quiet and, exhausted, you fell asleep quickly
but you suddenly wake up, feeling that John's presence is no longer there
you get out of the tent, and try to spot John helped by the moonlight, you finally see a figure sitting near the water
you walk slowly towards him, softly whispering his name
he jumps slightly, and you see his arms quickly wipe his face
"Are you okay? Do... Do you want me to leave?"
for a few minutes he doesn't say anything, so you start to leave but his hoarse voice makes you stop
relieved, you walk up to him and sit next to him. You notice his wet eyes and reach out to pat his shoulder
"You want to talk about it?"
"No, it was just a bad dream."
you understand the fact that he doesn't want to talk about it, that actions will be more effective than words
so you keep pat his shoulder, gently pushing him against you
he lets himself go in your hands, resting his head in the crook of your neck
you rub his shoulder as your other hand smoothly run through his hair
you start humming, quietly telling him that it's okay
he lets out a sigh, leaning closer in your embrace
"You're not gonna leave me huh?"
"Of course not John. I will always be with you."
a little smile appears on his lips, he looks at you with adoration as his eyes slowly begin to shut
you spend the rest of the night like this, John waking up in the morning in your arms, a feeling of love and serenity overwhelming him
