You never know what a simple act of kindness can do for other people.

Today I received a package early in the morning, so early that the delivery person was the first face I saw. It seemed like it was his first day at his job and he was around his forties or so .

I took my order and said thank you and he replied "Your welcome and have a nice day ☺️". He was full of smiles and was such a bright person. And obviously I told him to have a nice day too and that was it. He left smiling, I came back smiling.

But it was the first time anyone had ever told me that. Not that I didn't have people who cared for me. It's just that nobody ever said it in words. I felt really elated for some reason.

I decided to have a nice day because he told me to have a nice day lol. It really gave me enough motivation to start my day which I didn't usually have.

Now that I live alone, sometimes I have to remind myself that no one is rushing me anymore, one moment I would be like "You HAVE to wear your shoes faster or else.." and then I remember OR ELSE WHAT? BISH NO ONE IS WAITING FOR YOU!

Might be a controversial opinion but sometimes I'm glad I didn't pursue a career in arts. And it's not because of what you think, but because I can draw without the expectation of my art being done perfectly, I can play the guitar while messing up the notes but still be happy because I'm not performing for anyone. I can dance by changing the choreography whenever I want based on vibes. I can create a sloppy, hastily made ceramic bowl yet enjoy it. My creation doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be mine.

You know you're becoming an adult when you use the money your relatives gave you during a festival for essentials — Oh Auntie sent me 1000? Looks like detergent is set for the month!— and not only do you change your financial mindset, you also learn new things about yourself.

Living alone made me realise so many things about myself. I thought I'd hate doing the dishes but something about that shine of the plate after washing away the remnants of the food I made for myself just fills me with a sense of joy I can't seemingly express. Freshly washed clothes give such a comforting smell that I wish I'd sleep in a pile of them ( although I can't do that lol).

This just makes me so hopeful for the day I have my own home. I'd probably learn much more about myself as a person through it.

Now it's as if childhood lost it's essence and is slowly being replaced by constant preparation for the day you step out into the world as an adult. And much of it is owed to what the world is becoming now. It's way harder to afford the privilege of being a carefree child when all you can do is care. Care for your future, for your safety, for your survival.

And just like that we had to stop using life for it's most important purpose—Living.

Hope, like milk on the stove, simmers in silence until it gathers strength. Just as it begins to rise, it is pressed back down. Left unattended, it overflows—spilling across the counter, leaving only a mess in its wake.

When you keep trying and trying till it reaches your neck and you can't take it anymore and slowly it dawns on you when you hear the voice inside your head saying "they will never understand me, will they?" And all you can do now is grieve — Not the relation, not what it could have been but the lifetime of trying to speak your soul to those who couldn't read it's language.

I cannot wait for the day I finally have my own home. It will be mine and mine alone. It will be a permanent escape from whatever there is. I'll decorate it with everything I've loved. I'll walk through every corner knowing it's a result of my making. There will be no screams, no one will rush me to do things. I'll forever cherish it.
