"Simon Riley" and "Ghost" are two sides of the same coin- split personalities to an extent. It's not a subconscious separation, it's something he's very aware of. He's developed a unique sort of method of coping with his mental state and the separation of Simon and Ghost is it. Simon is his humanity- what he has left of himself that he can hold on to, and he very seldom shows it to anyone. Ghost is everything else- sadomasochism, ego, attitude- a mask.
He doesn't like being referred to as anything other than Ghost, least of all Simon Riley, which he reserves for the people he genuinely trusts (ie. mother, brother, possibly significant other). Lieutenant or Lt. Riley is is bearable, mostly because it's the common formality.Â
Ghost wears a perpetual smirk. Seldom smiles.
Simon smiles a a lot when he's around.Â
Simon also has fits of paranoia, though. He has nightmares, he's surprisingly insecure, he knows he's messed up and he hates it.Â
Despite the split, he's decently stable when there's nothing interfering with him, intelligent and observant. He's a fuckin' genius, classified with an IQ of 159, and can come up with a snarky comment at the snap of a finger. He's clever and quick-witted 99% of the time, and one wouldn't really be able to guess the degree of his insanity until they see him shaking in a cold sweat or hovering over some poor bastard with a battery at his side.Â
But he enjoys organised fights. Both on base and on shore.Â
He comes across as cocky, but it's rightfully so- to go through what he's been through and still be able to function as well as he does is an absolute wonder. Simon may be insecure about his mentality but his confidence in his ability is to the bone.Â
He has a habit of walking like he owns the place. He doesn't mean to, in all honesty- the degree of his cockiness is more of a show.Â
He respects those that were with him on Op Kingfish as equals. He doesn't necessarily trust any of them to any degree and the only one whose authority he outright respects is Price.Â
Soap stays with him during interrogations to stop Ghost from going too far. Because once he gets started, there's no stopping.Â
He'll follow orders but he has little to no respect for authority. It's mostly due to the fact that he knows he can handle anything he's dealt just as well as his superiors because he's probably been through a hell of a lot more.Â
Ghost acts amicably to friend and foe, which is unsettling to a point. Even when talking about down-right horrid things, he'll make it sound likes he's chatting about the weather.Â
