Casting directors make mistakes all the time. Everybody don't have to like your fave. Just because she's a black female like you and myself doesnt mean she's mastered her craft. Her acting is all in her lips. I've seen better, so have you.
Yeah I am sure they do. They just didn’t with Nicole, and that’s my opinion. You’re right, no one has to like my fave, but it just so happens that a lot of people do and that’s why Sleepy Hollow has been able to keep afloat. And wow… I just… wow. Nicole is great at her craft while also being black. If anything, her being a black woman and being cast as a leading lady only reaffirms her skill and talent in a racist industry where black women are underrepresented and pushed aside to play harmful stereotypes. If you don’t like her acting, why watch?

You simply DO NOT as a black female actor get awards, accolades and callbacks for new roles if you are a mediocre black actress who has distinctive black features and are not light skinned/racially ambiguous.
It just doesn’t happen.
Black women are NOT given the leeway skinny “conventionally attractive” white women are in Hollywood to start off lousy then learn and grow in their craft and career. They are not propped up. They either sink or swim.
You don’t get shout outs by one of the greatest black female actresses of our time (Viola Davis), and surrounded and supported by other great black actresses on Twitter when all you’re able to do is “act with your lips”.
Nicole Beharie is the real deal. She’s elevated the dreck the writers have been giving her and made Sleepy Hollow watchable. She’s headlining a show at just 30 when other black actors needed a full other decade to be noticed.
Your problem is that you dislike Nicole’s unambiguously black appearance so all you can focus on when she’s lighting up the screen is her very distinctively African features, her lips… and with disgust.
That has nothing to do with Nicole. That’s your own anti-blackness shining through.
