But you’re probably right. At least I’m not a vampire. Sucking could get scary real quick.
-shudders- Hm, yeah, actually I think I would prefer you stay away from any undead creatures for the time being.
Yeah, I can live with that.
Good, because if you weren't alive you would be zombie. Not that you wouldn't be a beautiful zombie, but I feel like you night take the phrase 'eating my face off' far too literally.
Ooh, put your money where your mouth is. Literally.

They’d had their fair share of moderately intimate evenings, either in his place or hers, and kissing him always made something in her stomach go warm and fill her up from the inside out. And she’d kept her equally fair share of fantasies and dreams to herself, but…well, she didn’t really have to anymore. Maura spoke strings of breathless I-love-yous in her head as she felt his tongue trace along her bottom lip, mouth opening just a little and tagging his tongue with hers. His hands, always warm, and soft like an artist’s, strong like a worker’s, met the curve of her waist and she took a deep breath, hips moving toward him. Maura tilted her head, carding her one hand through his hair and the other mirroring his, creeping under the hem of his shirt so her palm could lay flat over his spine.
He moved his hips against hers, longing to be closer. Her hand sliding up his bare back sent shivers up his spine, and he released her mouth briefly so that he could start tracing kisses down her jawline down to her neck. His heart was beating so fast that it seemed seconds away from bursting, but somehow his movements were steady and sure. His hands slowly drifted up, lifting her shirt until his fingers brushed against her bra. Not wanting to rush her if she wasn't ready for this, he pulled back from her neck so that he could meet her gaze, a question in his eyes.
Stop it, now you’re making me self-conscious about them.
Well, I could always cover them up for you. With my face.
If you looked like me, I’d be apologizing to you.
I beg to differ, I happen to be a big fan of your voluptuous lips.
I know, we look so similar, anyhow. What with your flowing blonde locks and voluptuous lips.
If only I was so lucky.
Wait, hold on. Now it’s on your face.
Now you’re good.
-grins- Thanks. With you around, I guess I never need a mirror again.
I'm pretty sure I've got something in my teeth. Did I get it?

Her voice let out a little yelp of surprise, and then fell into laughter when he spun her around, his arms still coming around her from behind. The sound of his laughter was like nothing she’d ever heard; something he liked to hide away in the soothing calmness of his voice and demeanor. If she could make him make those sounds forever, she would be a happy woman. Finally down on her feet, she put her hands to his sides. “You don’t have to wonder,” she assured him softly.
Just like that, she was drowning in the feel of his lips, his arms around her, his smell intoxicating her. Maura returned the kiss in kind, letting out a little breath and winding her arms around his neck, inching toward him until their hips bumped together. She was in love. Incredulous with herself and giddy at the realization, she grinned, holding him tight. In love—who would have thought?
Gio was hyper-aware of how her body was touching his, the warmth of her skin combining with his own. He deepened the kiss, wanting to be as close as they could possibly be. Her lips were soft and smooth, and he ran his tongue along her bottom lip instinctively. The fact that she returned his strong feelings made him happier than he'd ever felt before, and he wanted to express it to her in whatever way he could. His hands moved up her waist, riding up her shirt so his fingers felt bare skin. The sensation awoke a strong, heady feeling inside of him, making his breath come faster.

She watched as disbelief took over his expression and chuckled, turning her face back to the window for half a minute. “Fine, you don’t have to believe me,” she teased him, feeling her heart swell at the sight of his eyes going wide and his smile taking up the better portion of his face. She couldn’t keep her eyes off him for very long, turning her head back and grinning as he tried to cope with what she’d just told him.
She was surprised, herself. But she hadn’t known any other way to describe this feeling that wouldn’t go away. It was like intuition, just a gut feel. Felt right. Calm, ordered, perfect—and then, when it was excited, it was chaotic and zealous and wonderful. And it hadn’t been going away. What else could it be? The apples of her cheeks pinked. “Of course I’m sure. Why would I throw that around? I love you.”
Hearing her say the words again sent shivers down his spine all the way down to his toes. He stared at her for another brief second, his grin frozen, but then happiness flowed through him like a rush of adrenaline. Laughing, he squeezed her tight and spun her around in a circle with his arms still wrapped around her from behind. When he stopped, he released her so that he could face her. "I don't doubt your sincerity, it's just... I didn't want to hope.. "
He had run out of words, so instead he leaned in close to give her a passionate kiss. His hands went to her waist once more, this time from the front, and he pulled her to him.

Welcoming his embrace, she sunk back into his form and laid her arms over his, pivoting her head so she could see him. Her body seemed to know he was holding her close and that she was safe, because every muscle instantly relaxed at his touch. He began to speak, and the smile slowly started to reappear at his explanation. A smile. Just a smile. Maura always thought she would be so hard to love, but all it took was a smile. And even if it was cheesy, even if he was just saying that to made her feel good, it was more than enough.
"We’re gonna need some crackers for that cheddar you’re serving," she chuckled lowly, pressing her lips onto his for a moment. She held onto the kiss just for a touch, then endured the pain of pulling away. Her eyes wandered his face in thought. "Still can’t believe you choose to put up with me," she confessed under her breath. Her disbelief shifted into not knowing how she wasn’t kissing him again. Maura always expressed her emotions better with actions than with words, and she longed to have him in her embrace. The heaviness returned to her heart, something radiant and undefinable and she was a little scared of it. At first, only ever flared up when her mind was on him, or when he was near her. Now it was like a constant buzz through her whole body.
Maura took a breath. “I think I love you, too.”
Gio wasn't sure how he could possibly explain to her that 'putting up with her' was the best part of his day. There weren't really words for it, but seeing her was never a negative experience. The way she walked into a room and filled it with words and smiles warmed his heart, despite the fact that generally he enjoyed the quiet. Maura didn't make a room louder, she made it fuller, richer.
His eyes widened at her statement, and he met her gaze searchingly. There was a look in her eyes that made him believe her, making those words sound more true than anything else he'd heard her say. A grin spread across his face, "Wait.. really?" A second after he'd said it, he realized how stupid he sounded. "I mean.. are you sure?"

She wondered what it was like to be an introvert. To know yourself so intricately, so deeply, all the time. To always think before you spoke or did something. It was a fascinating, foreign concept to Maura, and she wasn’t sure if it was something people were always born with, or if they could learn it. If she could learn it. “I don’t think they’re random at all,” she said, studying another one, taken with the glistening paint and soft lines and brushstrokes. How calming and reassuring it must be to be amazing at something, to always have something to turn to.
Maura smirked at his answer, stepping away from the wall of paintings and moving toward him. “You’re such a sap,” she teased lightheartedly, walking past him to go to the window. In reality, she loved it when he admitted things like that to her. It made her feel like he could trust her. And…it made her feel like she could trust him too; tell him things. Admit things. Like how she’d started to notice how complicated her feelings for him had become lately. How heavy and strong. Maura sighed, turning her head over her shoulder back to him.
"How do you know you love me?"
Gio watched her as she walked past him, resisting the urge to take her hand and pull her into a kiss. It had been difficult to keep his hands to himself while in the presence of his family, as he knew that Lilli would notice if they were even just holding hands. And he knew he shouldn't care, but he didn't want to give his sister any reason at all to act negatively towards Maura.
He smiled at her question, glad that he could explain himself. He had been thinking the same question to himself frequently after he had admitted his feelings for her, and he thought he might now have an answer. Walking over to where she was standing by the window, he wrapped his arms around her from behind. Tilting his head so that he could look her in the eyes, he took a deep breath and started. "I know I love you because of the way I feel when you smile really wide and your eyes disappear into your face. It's just a small thing, but making you happy has become one of the most important things in the world to me. As cheesy and Nicholas Sparks as this sounds, I know I love you because if the only thing I ever saw again was that smile, I would be happy."

Following his eyes with hers, she tilted her chin up to see the cutout in the ceiling above them. Maura sent him an amused, skeptical look when he wagged his brows and did a half-jump to read the handle and presented her with a flight of stairs, no doubt leading to an attic. She refused to believe it was an ordinary attic, not with Gio. She snorted a laugh, shaking her head with a grin. “You are such a dork,” she scoffed, waiting for him to start up the ladder before she trailed him.
It smelled like old wood and canvas. As Maura peered over the top of the rungs, the attic started to come into view, and she almost lost her footing because she was so transfixed. She wanted to see everything at once. The big window that covered the whole wall caught her eyes first, then all the artwork strewn about the room. “You made all this?” She went to one particularly colorful piece, gingerly touching the edge of the canvas with her fingertips. Painting really was his whole life. It must’ve been all he’d ever known.
She sent an inspired smile in his direction. “Which one is your favorite?”
Gio followed her to the piece she was indicating, then shrugged. "Yeah. As an introverted teenager, art was really the only thing that made my life bearable. Some of this is just random doodles, probably not any good." He then realized with a jolt that it didn't bother him that she was looking at his art. Even with Sienna, it took some genuine effort to show her what he'd been working on. But now, with Maura, it seemed natural.
He considered her question carefully, uncertain of the answer. Looking around, he tried to decide which of his pieces he liked the most. People had asked him this question before, but usually he just picked a random one and came up with a half-assed explanation. This time, however, he wanted to tell the truth. After a moment of thought, he turned back to her. "I honestly don't have a favorite. Different pieces connect with me more at different times of my life, even at different times of the day. My favorite at this very moment is probably the one back at CBU, the one with you in it." He caught her gaze, smiling softly.

She remembered to keep her elbows off the table for the first half of dinner, and then had to remind herself once or twice. At least it wasn’t too tense, though she had to admit she had had other expectations when they arrived. She shrunk a little every time Lilli made some kind of comment, though they weren’t exactly crude or sniveling, and she had to stop herself from retaliating, her anger boiling close to the surface. Lilli was definitely a test of her impulsiveness and her patience.
Everything was calm again when the rest of them went upstairs. The kitchen was cleaned up (Maura had also remembered to offer to help with the dishes; her mother would be proud) and it was just her and Gio sitting at the table with their coffees. A look from him grabbed her attention, and she started to smile as he winked and took her hand. “Okay,” she said with no absence of curiosity in her tone. She rose to her feet, following him.
Gio led her upstairs, then down the hallway until they were standing under a large square in the ceiling. He wiggled his eyebrows at her mysteriously, then hopped a bit to grab a handle on one side of the square. "Ta dah!!" He pulled the handle down to reveal a folded stepladder. "Tonight, you are going to have the privilege of entering my secret sanctum.. my Bat Cave, if you will." He paused for dramatic effect, then stepped onto the ladder. "I'll go first so I can turn on the light."
He made his way up the steps, then stepped onto the hardwood floor. The attic was musty and stuffy, but he still felt more relaxed just stepping inside it. He blindly felt his way to the wall, where he flipped the light switch. He then turned to survey his studio, taking in the familiar scene. It was a small room with one large window facing the east. The walls were lined with paintings and easels, and a desk in the corner was full of brushes, pencils, paints, and countless other art supplies. Nestled against the wall under the window was a couch that had once been brown, but now had so many drips of paint on it that a better descriptor for it would have been 'rainbow'.
Satisfied that his place hadn't been messed with, Gio turned to watch Maura's reaction.
