There’s a heavy silence in the room, but it’s not an unpleasant one. It’s not uncomfortable. It’s something like expectant.

“Yes,” she says quickly. Too quickly. Embarrassingly quickly. “Please. Do… whatever you want.”

There’s a suspended moment, the fact of the matter sinking in to everyone, the pretences of their presence falling away as they all decide if they’re willing to take the step off the ledge. Like when she was an unclaimed and fell, fell, fell, not opening her wings until the very last second. A leap of faith.
