Have you seen @/bethanydellemanâs âmale characters of the JA universeâ sex skills tier list?Sorry for the weird description, Iâm just trying to be clear and precise so you understand what Iâm talking about. If so, I would love to see you do one for the major and minor male characters of The Pride of Burrough House. I think it could be a funny and illuminating activity!
The way I immediately knew exactly which post you're talking about! (For the uninitiated, you can find it here.)
So I'm going to base these assessments on the characters over the entire fic, taking into account that at this point in the fic so far we have a couple characters who are... less experienced/informed but will eventually gain a little more knowledge/experience which may or may not change the view you have of them now.
I've included a couple of extremely minor characters just for giggles. In no particular order within each tier...
James Potter -- He might not have qualified as a rake at any point, but was enough of a ho in his earlier years that he acquired some skills and of course plenty of confidence.
Bill Weasley -- Worldly, passionate, has probably literally ripped a bodice at some point.
George Weasley -- He's easygoing and fun; sometimes the best sex has nothing to do with being intense or having an impressive arsenal of skills. There's a reason that rich widow has been monopolizing so much of his time.
Harry Potter -- Does this one surprise you? He's young, and he's not pursuing flings, but that's more about him being grounded, respectful, and a little reserved. But he's enthusiastic and he gets off on his partner getting off. His confidence is just under the surface. An equally enthusiastic partner is what pushes him into this tier.
Fred Weasley -- So obviously, Fred fucks, and what's funny about that is I didn't even set out to do that originally. But as I started writing him, I realized, wow, this guy is basically a sentient erection. đ He'd be an enthusiastic, attentive partner, but I think he's a little into himself. I think he also tends to lose interest in things, and he'd be fantastic the first couple of times, but at some point he wouldn't put as much effort into it when it's no longer new.
Arthur Weasley -- So I told my husband what I was doing in this post, and his immediate response was, "We all know Arthur lays pipe." Does more need to be said?
Roger Davies -- A fucking idiot. A true moron. An absolute clown of a pretty boy. But the one brain cell is not needed in the bedroom.
Serviceable (but can improve if so inclined!):
Ron Weasley -- At age 21 and chapter 27 he's finally had his first real sexual encounter, so there's some growth to be had. I do think Ron can't really enjoy himself if his partner isn't enjoying herself, and I guarantee he made sure to ask a few questions and pick up a few techniques during that episode at the Come and Go Room. He's not one to sleep around (and tbh I believe canon Ron to be fairly sexually conservative/ inexperienced) so he and Hermione are going to have to figure out what works for them, but he genuinely aims to please.
Percy Weasley -- One of the few characters -- if not the only -- who will be married without having already experienced penetrative sex; and not only that, but he won't have engaged in any sexual contact with his endgame (it's not too spoilery, I promise). And this is in large part due to him being so proper and uptight, but there's also been the distinct lack of temptation because of the lack of real connection (though, you will notice what the mention of the name Penelope did to him while he was at the Come and Go Room). Ultimately, he's respectful and earnest, and yeah, he takes himself a little seriously, but he also takes it seriously. Skill may be lacking, but intimacy won't be.
Charlie Weasley -- Funny enough, when I originally planned this fic, Charlie and Vivian were meant to be fucking nonstop. And then I was like, hmm, actually, I think Charlie's ace? Maybe graysexual? I think he does it mainly to scratch an itch. He's respectful, but it's about efficiency, and I expect it would be the same for his partners, because he makes no pretense otherwise.
Draco Malfoy -- He's uptight and self-important and not exactly a ladies' man. But I think he would sincerely desire his own wife's happiness.
Bertrand de Pensees-Profondes -- He's respectful, and there's a worldly quality about him, but he just takes himself really seriously. Also he's a bit of a mansplaining type and thinks, "Well, if this thing worked for one woman obviously it should work for all women."
Sir Bilius -- In his younger years was probably an absolute slut, but he's very into himself and he's not very into self-reflection.
Lie back and think of England:
Bernard Weasley -- I mean.
Lord Avery -- Garbage is garbage.
This was so fun. Super happy for any comments/ questions/ predictions. đ
(Also, can't stress enough that these are based on the BH versions of these characters. I feel like there would be differences in the canon versions, not least of all because of the modern accessibility of sexual information and ability to gain sexual experience, for all genders.)
