As ridiculous and embarrassing as this little ‘social experiment’ is, I suppose it’s hardly the worst thing the liberal bleeding hearts party could have done. Truth be told, this country produces some fine submissive stock and I don’t mind having some new toys around to play with.

Aiden bit down on his bottom lip. “I.. I don’t know.. How is that something that just happens?” he asked softly, not expecting an answer. Of course he knew that people sometimes just got sick without a clear reason, but the fact that Lucas was one of them was scaring the hell out of him, especially since diabetes wasn’t something that could just be cured. Aiden gently traced the smooth line of Lucas’ jaw with his thumb as he gazed into his eyes. “I love you..”, the words left his mouth before he even realized they did, and before he gave Lucas the chance to reply to them, he had captured the boy’s lips with his own. 

“I don’t know? My body decided it can’t produce  insulin the way it’s supposed to. I don’t know why, it just did.” he said, eyebrows knitting together in response to Aiden’s question. He went to reply to Aiden’s abrupt statement but before he could, the other was kissing him. As much as he wanted to push Aiden away from him, Lucas couldn’t help but to melt into the kiss; finding himself returning it. The arm of his that wasn’t hooked up to a million wires and IVs made it’s way up to Aiden’s shoulder, using it to push him back a bit to separate the two of them after a while. “.... why?” Lucas asked after a few moments of looking up at him.

“You figured wrong then, babe.” Aiden leaned in closer to his ex-boyfriend and lifted his hand to cup his cheek. His eyes widened when Lucas told him he had diabetes. “..What? Diabetes? How?” he shook his head in disbelief. ”That doesn’t even make sense.”

“Right, well. Thanks then, I guess?” he mumbled, playing with his fingers as he did. He blinked up at Aiden as he felt his hand cup his cheek. “What do you mean how? That kind of thing just happens... what do you mean it doesn’t make sense.”

“Why? Because you’re in a hospital, you dork.” Aiden replied, furrowing his brow. “Yea, well, it’s up to me what I feel like wasting my time on. So, are you going to answer me or what? What’s up with you? Why did you faint?”

“Yea, but...” Lucas trailed off, he didn’t have the energy to start up an argument. “I guess. I just figured there were better people to waste your time on.” He added softly before sighing. “Low blood sugar. They ran tests all morning after I woke up then.... prognosis? Type I diabetes. I’m fine though. Really.”

“What do you think I’m doing here, Lucas? They told me you had fainted at school and I just want to check on you, make sure you’re okay…” he told him as he grabbed a chair for himself to sit on. “So… how are you feeling?”

“Why?” Lucas responded quicker than her probably should have. With a small sigh, and a shake of his head, he looked down at his hands. “I’m fine. You don’t have to waste your time worrying about me.”

Aiden had rushed to the hospital as soon as he heard the news that Lucas had fainted at school. Though he had broken up with him right before Christmas and the two of them had stopped talking ever since, Aiden was still extremely worried about his ex boyfriend. When he arrived at the room Lucas was in, the boy was still asleep, so Aiden figured he shouldn’t stick around. He grabbed one of the spare vases the hospital provided, filled it up with water and put the flowers he had bought in it. After he had put the vase on Lucas’ bedside table, he was just about to turn his heels and leave when suddenly Lucas opened his eyes. “Babe?”, he spoke softly, not wanting to scare the boy.

Lucas looked up at Aiden, eyes wide and groggy. He was the last person Lucas expected to see around. Even he was sick. Using his hands to push himself straighter up on the bed, he blinked up at Aiden. “What... are you doing here?” he asked, confusion evident.

Lucas woke up a few moments before he allowed his eyes to open. His head hurt, he could hear someone moving about around him, and he could small that distinct sterilized scent that a hospital always carried. Finally opening his eyes, he groaned slightly thanks to the bright white of the room he was in, and looked around at his surroundings.
