it’s just me and my beautiful brown eyes
Seffora took the lord's hand as she descended from her carriage, and after letting go, she continued to feel the ghost of his touch on her skin. It was the sort of thought that she knew she should not entertain too much, for it meant she was allowing matters of the heart to begin to seep into matters that were to be entirely political. It was hard not to attribute some special meaning to this reunion, though, especially with the way the Tyrell lord smiled at her.
“I was honored by it, Lord Lucca. I sincerely believe Longtable and Starpike have much to offer to one another, and that our people can greatly benefit from a close relationship between the two,” the Merryweather lady said with a sincere smile, looping her arm with his and gathering her skirt with her free hand as she let Lucca guide her into his home.
“How have you been, my lord? I hope both you and your children have been in good health,” Seffora added, pleasantly aware of the closeness as the two of them walked together. What a reassuring and calming presence he was, rather than nerves the Tyrell lord inspired a sort of ease within her that Seffora deeply appreciated.
it feels as though it has been ages since he's laid eyes on lady seffora, though really it has only been a matter of a few moons. but honestly being in her presence is something he craves so deeply, it almost feels as though something is missing within him when she is not present. and gods, the way her smile lights up the entire encounter.
"i believe the same, my lady," lucca replies with a smile. "and with how close we are in proximity, the flow of goods will be constant." he begins leading her down the path, through the gates, and up to the castle. guards open the doors for them, allowing them to walk up the steps through the giant double doors.
"i have been quite well, actually. as have the boys. it seems as though they're growing at a rate i can hardly keep track of anymore," he chuckles. "it's been an adjustment, getting used to calling starpike home, but it's really grown on me." nothing would ever compare to the rolling hills of highgarden, but starpike has its own charms. "but enough about me. how have you been? how is it, being ruling lady of longtable?"
Closed starter for @luccatyrelll Setting: Following their correspondence, Lady Seffora Merryweather travels to Starpike to meet with Lord Lucca Tyrell to discuss matters of a trade alliance between their lands.
A small council of sorts, echoing the honored practice of the Ding of ancient times, had been established in Longtable. In her absence her trusted Rowan advisors remained as the head of her land, carrying out the lady's orders and continuing work on the endeavors she began for her community. Seffora, as agreed, had made her way to Starpike to meet with its lord.
Upon descending from her carriage, the Tyrell lord and a small retinue of guards and attendants were present for her arrival. “My lord,” Seffora greeted with a polite curtsy, an affectionate smile inevitably gracing her lips as she met Lucca's eyes. Gods, a part of her wished she could just throw her arms around him and greet him more warmly, but as ruling nobles, there was protocol to follow, even more so with some eyes on them. “I thank you kindly for the invitation to come”.
lucca doesn't mention a word of it to anyone else, but in truth he is counting down the days for the lady seffora's arrival. and thank the gods she arrives just on time, or the lord would surely begin to worry that something horrible had happened on her travels. but no, he is quickly made aware that a traveling party carrying merryweather banners has made its way into their lands. within moments, lucca and his guards and various attendants are making their way to the gates.
as the doors to her carriage open, the tyrell lord offers a hand for seffora to take. he helps to guide her down the short stairs, making sure she safely makes her way down. "my lady," he greets in return, not hiding the bright grin that quickly takes over his features. "and i thank you for accepting my invitation," he replies, still grinning. "i hope your travels were pleasant."
with her safely on the ground, lucca offers his arm to her. "come, let me show you inside?"
setting: after hearing of the news of cedric's son's birth, lucca rides for highgarden.
nearly the moment the news breaks, lucca is preparing himself for the journey. he has the stable boys ready the horses, and he himself begins to gather up the things he has been putting together as a gift for the new heir to the reach. all the bounty that starpike has to offer, of course. only the best for the new little prince. the ride takes about a day and a half, give or take. a grin quickly grows on his face as he arrives at the gates of highgarden, slowly opening and beckoning him back home. gods, it feels so good to be here again. though it's only been a few short months since he was there last, it feels like ages in truth.
as soon as he's settled in, the young man requests an audience with his beloved cousin, the thorn king. of course he knows it will take a bit of time, as the man is undoubtedly overwhelmed with the prospect of being a new father. when cedric enters the room he has been waiting in, lucca immediately jumps up from his chair. "gods it is good to see you," he says as he quickly envelops the other man in a tight hug. "so tell me, how's it feel?"
@visxionaries
Lord Lucca,
Thank you kindly for your response, and your willingness to have our lands engage in a prosperous trading alliance. I'd be ready to travel whenever you have the time to meet with me.
It pleases me greatly that your sons enjoyed their presents. You may tell Niccolo and Arren that I will travel with more presents so they can be entertained by them. Which animal do you think they would like?
I'm eager to see you and your wonderful boys soon.
Sincerely,
‒ 𝒮effora
lady seffora,
i'd love for you to come at your earliest convenience. i will begin preparing for your arrival at once then.
i am sure that they will be excited when i inform them that you will be coming, perhaps even more than myself if that is possible. i believe they would love some deer, if you could make that happen. we get quite a lot of them on the property here, and the boys are always fascinated by them.
i look forward to seeing you once again, my lady.
sincerely,
lucca
Letter sent to Ruling Lord Lucca Tyrell of Starpike / @luccatyrelll Along with the letter, a parcel is sent: a basket with a bottle of Lontable-brewed barley beer, plums, two loaves of rye bread, and two hand-knitted toy bears.
— ✼ —
Lord Lucca,
I write to you in hopes that our houses can begin engaging in trade. The Reach continues to feel the effects of the civil war, and Longtable suffers the loss of too many men each day. I've worked with many of the widows of soldiers who perished during that time, with a new marketplace having been established and renewed efforts in producing wares as well as food that could benefit our neighboring regions.
I would love to meet with you to discuss our progress further and find ways in which our houses might aid each other in the path forward.
I hope you and your boys are well. You will find a parcel along with this letter. I hope you and your sons enjoy the gifts I send you.
Sincerely,
‒ 𝒮effora
lady seffora,
it would be an honor to engage in trade with you and your house. it may be best for us to discuss these terms of trade face to face, and you are most welcome here in starpike. should you wish to make the trip, i will prepare for your arrival.
we are doing well, and i hope you are as well. the boys loved your gift, niccolo especially. he's tried snatching both for himself.
i look forward to seeing you again.
sincerely, lucca
seffora-merryweather:
The music was familiar and she knew the dance by heart, yet for a moment she worried that it all slipped out of her mind. She didn’t feel nervous around Lucca, but there was certainly something of an effect his presence had on her. It felt nice. And the Merryweather lady simply reminded herself that she did know the steps as she held the lord’s hand.
A grin spread across her lips as he spun her around, and she managed to gracefully come back closer, resting her hand on his shoulder. “It’s good to know all the lessons were worth it,” she mused with amusement. Her father had been insistent upon it, ensuring she was a proper lady who knew dancing and singing, who knew embroidery and drawing. She appreciated such lessons, of course, but she’d also been eager to learn politics and the sort of intellectual topics men were more often taught. Bless the Rowans, and the fact that Lord Tirius had put effort into her learning that as well.
No lesson was wasted, even what felt inconsequential at times. And truly, dancing was something she enjoyed greatly, even more so with the right company. And Lucca Tyell was the right company, she knew. It was quite easy to tell why. “I like dancing with you, my lord,” she admitted with an open, honest smile. And perhaps, by the ease in his features, he also enjoyed dancing with her.
.
lucca is definitely the worse dancer of the two, but he manages to do his best and hopefully live up to her expectations. there are plenty of lords at this wedding that she could be spending her time with, yet here she is with him. talking with him, meeting his boys, dancing with him. gods, he certainly does feel lucky in his position.
“i probably should’ve paid more attention to my own, but yours were certainly not in vain,” he chuckles. as a man though, lessons like this were of less importance. it didn’t seem to matter much if he knew the right moves in a dance so long as he knew the ins and outs of his histories. both that of his family, and that of greater westeros.
there comes the part in the song where the lords lift the ladies up above their heads and spin them round. lucca is slightly nervous but manages to do so without stumbling or dropping her, thank the gods. “i like dancing with you as well, my lady,” he replies swiftly, smiling his signature lopsided smile. it feels like it’s been so long since he has done so genuinely, but it is hard not to in that moment.
seffora-merryweather:
The Merryweather lady gave a little wave as the babies were being taken to sleep, smiling at them and the nurse that took them away. She glanced to the side, meeting the lord’s eyes for a moment. His boys were lovely, as she’d already said. And seeing the adoration in their father’s eyes, Seffora was glad to know they would grow up with someone like Lucca to offer guidance and love.
“I don’t know about that,” Seffora replied with a sheepish smile. Was she a good sister? She’d been the kind of sibling that turned against her own blood in Sienna’s case, but she’d also been the sister that endeavored to be a part of little Shireen’s life despite the distance of their homes, and the sister who pleaded with a Dornish prince to let Sofina have her husband at her side on her last moments. “I just try to be present,” the lady admitted with a one-shoulder shrug, smiling as she met the heir’s eyes.
Seffora felt a light blush coming to her cheeks as the Tyrell lord moved a bit closer. Perhaps it was the wine she’d had earlier. She nodded before she spoke, meeting Lucca’s warm eyes. “It wouldn’t be, my lord. I do love to dance,” she replied in earnest.
.
she has such a nice smile, he thinks to himself. he nearly says it out loud too but realizes how that may come off a bit.. odd to just blurt out to someone, much less a lady of her status. and her eyes, they’re mesmerizing as well.. he’s not sure why he’s suddenly noticing these things about her, but he is.
he snaps out of his thoughts as she agrees to dance with him. he’s not sure if it’s just the lighting, but it almost looks like she is turning a shade of pink as well. the young lord wonders why, but tries not to dwell on the thought too much. “then it would be an honor,” he replies with a smile, offering her his arm.
he leads her out onto the dance floor, respectfully taking his position in the dance and placing one hand on her hip while the other holds her own gently. lucca gently spins her around before pulling her back into their little dance. “you’re a good dancer,” he tells her, raising his voice to be heard over the music and grinning.
“when i’m with you the line between ‘friends’ and ‘lovers’ blurs and i don’t care which side i end up on as long as you’ll have me.”

and how it seemed as though the confirmation of what he had always known, right at the very back of his mind and at the very bottom of his gut, from the voice of another was enough to finally cause something within him to crack. the look of expressionless nothing slowly morphed into one of genuine disbelief, the reality slowing sinking into him as mighty as the currents of the mander. it had all been there within the diary, which a part of him wished he had never picked up.
“i don’t know.” his words were perhaps the most haunting, the most chilling; enough to cause the hairs at the back of his neck to stand. it was the unknown which unsettled him the most, and as the two men of house tyrell sat within a portion of highgarden’s rolling gardens which stretched for miles and miles, it was a sobering moment.
wished he had never asked the lord commander to translate the parts which were in the brightwater tongue. a tongue he never knew, one he would probably never know; and yet still, it was all that was left of her. some distant lullaby. some words which he could not understand, words he heard sometimes come from the mouths of both of his florent cousins. it was always enough to cause his ocean gaze to flicker upward from whatever piece of parchment he was focused on, even fleetingly. enough to capture his attention from wherever.
“you have my word - you know all i know.” and it was eating him alive. “and if there is something else, then you will know of it.”
cedric did not have the answers. and it was enough to put him entirely on edge; for it felt as though both him and lucca were on the edge of some cliff, where the truth regarding the webs that had been woven in their family was to be revealed. what would they find? what would they be forced to carry upon their shoulders for the rest of their time in this world?
why would the man curse himself to the gods in such a way, to strike out and order an arrow directly into the throat of his only sister? whilst none of the tyrell siblings were necessarily close with one another, branches moving out and spreading over highgarden in separate directions that seemed to mirror the path each of the three took, to murder one’s sister was to condemn your soul for eternity.
there was some quiet, and cedric’s arms remained upon his knees; he had not even realised the amount of stones and pebbles he had been tossing down the hill the two men were sat upon, sending them tumbling into the lake beneath the hill. he sent another, and another, as though it soothed something. it did not - not in reality. “should you decide to take another wife, i want longtable in the family.”
.
that is quite chilling. to have something so horrible happen to someone you love, done by someone meant to love them as well, and to not even understand why. it isn’t fair. a lot of what this damned family has dealt with simply isn’t fair. how the young tyrell wishes that the scales would tip in their favor for once, that fate would just give them a break. but it is never that easy, not in this world.
“okay.. okay. good,” he nods, mostly just thinking out loud. it is good for them to be on the same page, and to remain that way. especially because lucca remains his heir. and unfortunately, anything could happen between now and when his soon to be wife hopefully ends up pregnant.
lucca looks over at his cousin, examining his body language. the man is tense beyond belief, and it is no wonder why. he wishes there was something he could do to ease the stress, but alas he has nothing to offer as a comfort.
“i will,” he nods once again. the lord knows he is too young to remain a widow for the rest of his days. sure, he has starpike now but that doesn’t mean it is all he should settle for. especially if his cousin and king is requesting more.
“i’ve gotten to know lady merryweather recently.. i could make that happen.” and not just because of this request, but because maybe he wants this anyway. he knows he must marry again and why not her? she is kind and a good friend. a good woman, even if her family’s reputation has been tainted by her traitor of a sister. they could fix that reputation-- together.
“i will make it happen. you have my word.”
“of course I remembered” is a love language

seffora-merryweather:
“Both of you are most gallant,” Seffora added with special emphasis imitating Lucca’s tone as she smiled and glanced over at Arren. Both of his sons were so adorable, and it reminded her of how much she enjoyed spending time around babies and toddlers, as she’d done with her little sister and the Rowan children.
A chuckle escaped her when little Niccolo shook her finger. Gods, that sweet, soft sound he made as she caressed his hand warmed her hand so much. “A little ticklish, aren’t we? I’m ticklish too, you know?” she cooed, gently touching his little hand again. “Don’t let your brother know or he’ll start some tickle wars with you,” she mused, recalling her own experiences with Sofina as they chased around each other to make the other laugh.
Seffora waved her hand at the babies and at the nanny as the lord asked the woman to take the babies away to sleep. “I did, yes. I spent most of my time at Goldengrove but after Shireen was born, I travelled often to Longtable to assist Lady Tarly as much as I could. I wanted to be there, as my sisters used to be for me”.
.
lucca watches as his boys are taken off to bed. he waves to them, even knowing their young eyes likely cannot see that far. but he is trying his very best to be the best father he can possibly be to them. a father like his own had been to him. gods, how he wishes he could still go to the man for advice. the only one he really has for that now is cedric. or maybe lucrezia as well.
“that is quite a lot of traveling,” he remarks, chuckling slightly. “you must be a really good sister then.” for her to do that much traveling just to help her step mother with a new baby, it’s a lot of responsibility for a young lady already being fostered by another family.
after a bit more small talk, lucca leans in a little closer. “would it be too much for me to ask the lady for a dance?” he asks with a smile.
